Gunmen steal 870 million dinars in Mosul

Unidentified gunmen managed to steal more than 800 million Iraqi dinars, the salaries of Mosul’s College of Medicine , while security forces detained a number of employees for interrogation.

“Unidentified gunmen stopped the vehicle carrying a number of staff from University - College of Medicine as they were transferring 870 million dinars after receiving it from the bank as salaries of the college staff,” A source in Nineveh Operations Command told “Shafaq News”.

He added that the gunmen were able to take the money at gunpoint and fled to an unknown destination.

Nineveh Operations Command decided after the incident to open an investigation and detained the staff who transferred the money to interrogate with them.

He explained that the leadership suspects collusion between the armed attackers and present staff at the moment of the accident in the vehicle.

I doubt they'll have a problem. The bills most probably were not marked. And maybe they're gonna save them. Maybe they know something. (RV)

I can picture university staff driving in the brady bunch station wagon with whats got to be a trunk full of dinar and since rumour said they were pulling in those large bills maybe it was two trunks either way you got 2-3 armed guards driving an armoured vehicle just to go pick up 10 grand from your local 7-11 around here. 870,000$ US worth is a large sum of money in any country why the lack of security because its dinar? total set up on the university side probably the janitor with a pipe in the library
