http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/01/tea-party-trouble-can-fractured-movement-impact-2012-election/

When you have a fractured party who refuse to back one candidate means one thing: A second Term!!!! Get mad if you want but it is starting to line up that way. Voters see the Tea Party as a contributing factor to congressional Grid Lock. This was probably a mistake to post i am sure i will rack up a bunch of negs but oh well Truth hurts.

With the South Carolina primary five days away, the tea party movement has accelerated its efforts to leverage what is likely its last opportunity to influence the Republican nomination process.

The movement has thus far struggled to coalesce behind one candidate. Despite Mitt Romney’s victories in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire and endorsements from the likes of conservative South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, he has yet to win the support of the elusive tea party.

Many in the grassroots movement vehemently oppose the former Massachusetts governor, who they deem to be no different than President Obama, politically and ideologically. In a poll conducted by Judson Phillips, founder of the Tea Party Nation, 40 percent of tea partiers said they would not vote for Romney in the general election.

“Romney is not a moderate. He is a liberal. He is almost as far to the left as Barack Obama,” Phillips, who organized the first tea party convention in February 2010, said. “Had Obama been governor of a state, his policies would’ve looked identical to what Romney’s looked like when he was governor of Massachusetts.”

The tea party movement has a strong presence in South Carolina. Only four percent of those surveyed in a November poll by Clemson University opposed the conservative movement, and many in the movement see South Carolina as the last frontier to make a concerted effort to derail Romney’s candidacy.

“If he wins here, it’s game, set, match Romney,” author and Clemson University professor J. David Woodard said.

At a major convention held by the Tea Party Patriots this weekend, Romney was notably missing from the list, which featured candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum and GOP heavy hitters such as Haley and Sen. Jim DeMint.

The Republican senator from South Carolina who has emerged as a tea party star told ABC News Friday that Romney needs to work on his empathy.

“I know I had to do it a few times in my career and I had sleepless nights and it killed me to do it, but I was doing it to save the other employees in my company and keep it going,” DeMint, a former marketing consultant, said. “If he doesn’t explain this, well, he’s going to see this again if he’s the nominee in the general election.”

But the biggest trouble for the tea party movement is the failure to unite behind one candidate, in many ways hurting the movement that already lacks a cohesive leadership. “The tea party is so fractured and we are so independent … that by the time we have one conservative left standing, it may too late,” said Phillips, who has endorsed Gingrich.

And that, Phillips added, could hurt the Republican Party in November. Grassroots momentum by tea party activists helped propel many first-time candidates into Congress in 2010, and the Republican party will need that to ensure a win.

“Worst-case scenario, we find a candidate whose a third-party candidate. That means Obama would get a second term. We realize that but Romney is little better than Obama,” Phillips said. “A Romney nomination is a lose-lose scenario for the tea party. We’ll have Obama in the White House for a second term or we’ll have a liberal in the White House. There is very little upside to that.”

But it is going to be a tough task. Even tea party sympathizers have hinted at a Romney candidacy. Haley, who surged to the governorship with tea party support, endorsed the former governor, upsetting many of her supporters. Freshman Rep. Tim Scott, who rode the same wave to Congress, also acknowledged there’s a divide among conservatives.

“When you have Rick Perry, when you have Mr. Santorum, Mr. Gingrich all working on the social conservative platform in South Carolina, you see there is a divide on the social conservative side,” Scott said in an interview with CNN’s John King last week. “So I think it’s going to be very difficult for any of us to find one candidate that becomes the anti-Romney candidate in the next nine days.”

Since the movement’s ascent in 2010, some tea party fans believe its influence is fading. It has been less visible in the 2012 election scene and has been in some ways overshadowed by the leftist Occupy Wall Street movement. Unlike three years ago, the movement has also been less visible on the national circuit, with virtually no gatherings to boast of in Washington D.C.

“It is almost impossible to believe and downright sickening to accept that in light of the clear mandate of the tea party that the GOP stands on the cusp of returning to ‘establishmentarianism,’” wrote conservative columnist and radio talk show host Kevin McCullough. “But it appears that for all the big talk, tens of thousands of local rallies, and the single largest non-inaugural event to ever occur on our nation’s mall, the tea party has died. Which is sad. And it’s sad for me personally as a supporter, because I believed in the movement and I even addressed those patriots, on that mall, that cloudy Washington day.”

Tea Partiers, however, charge that although they might not be able to influence the presidential race as much as they had hoped, they still plan to make a dent in this year’s state and congressional elections.

“There are several people interested in the presidential election,” said Shelby Blakely, executive director of The New Patriot Journal, a publication of the tea party Patriots, “but there is a larger group that’s focused on the congressional election in 2012 and to continue to elect tea party-minded individuals within the U.S. Congress.”

Obama will not be back in office, because if they nominate Romney, then Ron Paul will run as an Independent and beat Obama hands down by taking the majority of republican votes, all independents, and a huge huge share of the democrats, so suck it up, and get use to it, because the fraud Obama is about finished, and he can head back to Kenya, Chicago, or Hawaii where his thug buddies are.

It's called a "Primary". The purpose is to select one candidate out of all the contenders. The Tea Party group is trying to get someone they

can champion as the candidate - just like the socialist party of America and all of the other "democratic party" groups did in 2008.

Do you not recall the fractured democratic party in 2008 with all the mud slinging between the Clintons and Obama? Sadly that is the

way our political system seems to work. Well, the Obama camp won out in 2008 because they were the best at slinging mud,

and then everyone jumped on his bandwagon.

Now, when the Republican primary has been decided, you will see a change in the attitude of the Tea Parties in each state because the

main goal for 2012 is "OMG" (Obama Must Go).

So, all of you that want 4 more years of hatred for America can just sit back and watch. Believe all of the liberal media spin for everything

that happens, post all of the negative articles you want but the end result will be that the majority of citizens want him out of the WhiteHouse.

I just exercised my 1st Amendment right to express my opinion. If I receive negs for it then that means you do not believe in the freedom

to do so.

As a guy who had to follow the last election for news channels, I can tell you...

Obama will win.

I'm in a position where my common sense has stayed. I'm not for either party, which helps me maintain a sense of discretion.

Romney has lost a lot of footing. It'll be close, but in the end, people will vote more for "the devil they know" instead of the new one.

I'd like to see Ron win, but there's not a chance because too many republicans are, well, stubborn idiots who live in a bubble and don't want

to be known as the guy who voted for an independent.

I just exercised my 1st Amendment right to express my opinion. If I receive negs for it then that means you do not believe in the freedom

to do so.

:twocents:

How I wish that were true, because I had over 100 positives and I mentioned I hate Fox News (which I still do, buncha info-tainment if you ask me) and now I'm down to 70.

All because I shared my opinion.

And no. It's not a matter of, "If you don't let me talk, you hate America and if you hate America, you're a terrorist talk.

It's someone else's opinion to not like yours.

Freedom.

It's a double edge sword.

To echo TexasGranny's sentiments... it's a primary. Surely nobody has forgotten the Democrats' 2008 primary season (during which Hillarious dug up all the dirt on our current president). Hillarious was the one to uncover Obama's relationships with radicals such as Ayers and Wright, and it was her campaign that even released a picture of him wearing a turban - yet somehow, after Obama won the nomination, Hillarious and the rest of the Democrats rallied behind him and got him into office. This is how these things work. It's supposed to be nasty, so the eventual nominee will be properly vetted. After the dust settles, the republicans (and even the true conservatives) will get behind the republican nominee to ensure we don't have another 4 years of Obama. In the meantime, please quit taking the media seriously.

So, by your statement if i disagree with your opinion then I do not believe in 1st Amendment rights? Negative and positive marks mean that people like or dislike what you are saying. If your opinion is "disliked," tough cookies, because that is the right of everyone else. If you get offended because someone does not like what you say then don't post, simple enough. If I get negative for this, then I am happy because someone feels passionate enough to move their hand and click a button. Personally I like debate, but statements like this close discussions. Relax it is a forum post.

What worries me and its just my opinion is when we get the Rv before election time alot of us new millionaires

will quit working and thousands of jobs will open up plus alot of the Deficit will get paid down.

O slam a will get credit for saving the economy by saying see I got America more jobs and

cut the deficit and get re-elected.Plus as I have noticed from alot of past elections the RICHEST candidate has always

won the presidency.I think our smartest people should be the ones that run this country not the richest ones.

I really like Ron Paul and when I get my Rv'd money I am going to open a big business and employ

as many AMERICANS as possible making AMERICAN products and or services.

I mostly want VETERANS to run my business.

I hope O Slam a has to hit the bricks crawling back in his hole like the worm he is!!!

Please dont beat me up to bad its just my view is all.

Maybe some of you were born yesterday, so that you weren't around WAYYYYYY back when, in the year 2010 AD.....

There was a complete and total dismembering of the Democratic platform, at EVERY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT. The resounding rejection of the liberal agenda, the attacks on Christianity, the foreign apologeticism, the politics of blame and division through race, class warfare and moral views was thrown back in the faces of the Democratic Party.

This President cannot run on his accomplishments because they were against the will of the people. He cannot blame George Bush after this period of time. He cannot even blame the "racists". He will have to run a very negative campaign of division and demonization - and just won't work.

Once the Republicans have chosen their candidate, they will unite behind him. Maybe only a small part of them will do so because of their strong belief in that particular person, but the majority of Republicans AND Independents are intensely motivated in defeating the policies of Socialism, anti-Christian tactics, naieve foreign policy, fiscal mismanagement, disrespect for military members and families, unwanted forced healthcare mandates, pro-global warming cap & taxation, Pro-union cronyism, awful energy policies, 99%er, class warfare, big government, reverse racist enforcement of law and pro-illegal immigration (don't even get me started, there's much more!).

The American people have each had their turn at being offended and insulted by this administration. They won't forget.

The polls are already pitting how individual candidates would fare against BHO, and they're showing as a dead heat. JUST WAIT until it's been narrowed down to one selection (it will be)! The imbalance, I fear, will be so great, that I would not put it past this narcissist to do something extreme regarding Iran.

As a Moderator on this forum, I want to thank you for letting us know why so many people give negs.

However, the negative-plus system is set up to weed out posters who blatantly disregard forum rules. ;)

Just because you don't believe an opinion does not mean it deserves a neg. The same goes for the

plus.

The negative should only be used when someone posts a disrespectful/hateful post - which by

the way could result in that member being banned for violation of the forum rules. So, the next time

you want to hit the red neg button, think about that persons freedom to post their opinion whether

you like it or not because if your neg count reaches a certain number, you will no longer be able to

enjoy our forum at all.

When we RV, how many people are going to donate to Ron Paul.... A LOT. When we RV, how many people are actually going to invest thereby creating JOBS...A LOT. When we RV, we take our power back, not so much by retiring, but strengthening our committment to built a better society of freedom and liberty. The RV will not only change the US, but will change the world and it won't be because of any government. People are NOT dumb... they just haven't been told the facts. My money goes into supporting the candidate who supports the constitution and by purchasing communication getting the word out about the corruption in the gov and the banking system. I hope some of you will join me in this peaceful revolution. This RV is important for our future. I'm glad it's so close! GO RV!

War? I said nothing about that. The problem with Ron Paul is him making statements like "Who cares about Iran having a nuke". This is insane talk. If Ron Paul wins the nomination, I would vote for him over Obama.

I agree with your comment Granny. However, should one be a staunch Obama supporter (not saying me), "OMG" could be viewed as disrespectful. Most relate "OMG" to "Oh My God"......in my thought process, this means "You must be crazy". Therefore, they would be well within their rights to neg you. As of this post, you have 462 (+)....I think your safe. I have no intentions of being disrespectful toward you. I am just stating how I see it. Have a Great Day! :)

It's Ron Paul, or Obama, which will it be, because Ron Paul supporters are not going to back the corrupt GOP for cheating Ron Paul in Iowa, and New Hampshire out of votes. Either the GOP nominates Ron Paul, or the GOP will have to take the chance Romney beats Obama if Ron Paul should not run as an independent.

I just talked to more people on the street here in ATX. More and more people everyday are being woken up to the Ron Paul Revolution. It doesn't matter what, once your awake to Ron, you don't go back. That goes for the Democrats that I have as friends too. I have democrats pumped to go vote in the primary and become delegates. The movement has started and it won't stop. Get ready because at this point no other candidate can win! Think about it.. Romney won't get the Paul Votes and neither will Obama. But myself as well as many other Paul supporters are switching Democrats every day. Like it or not, we can't be stopped!!! :D :D

Anyone in the GOP would be 1000x better than Obama. We need to back whoever that is to make sure Obama is finished or this country and our freedom/liberties will be destroyed.

Look Romney is not my favorite by any stretch of the imagination. I understand what you are saying, but there is much more to this than the establishment issue. Obama is attempting to destroy our culture and create a welfare state that will look worse than the EU. If you think Obama would be better than anyone but RP you, with respect, are dead wrong.

I think the point is that when we RV, the distribution of wealth (a termed that I once despised) will be a huge opportunity to bring the country back into the hands of everyday people... who actually work for an income, pay taxes that keep us in poverty, and experience what it really feels like to be living here. We all have the opportunity, regardless of who is elected, to take back our power peacefully. Look at it this way... if the government is so corrupted and they only listen to special interest that greases their palms... then we all become a huge wealthy special interest group that brings us back to the Constitution. I think this is something that everyone can agree on. We all want to see our kids grow up in a abundant society, free of war, free of fear in which to unleash their creativity to create a better future for all. The RV will correct some of the things that have prevented America from moving forward.

Well stated Jewels. I pray everyday for our kids in this country. I'm a member of the Tea Party because I stand for small government, low taxes, balanced budget, and a strong defense. I hate war as much as anyone, but without a strong defense we are becoming vunerable to the evils of this world. With Obama we are doomed as a country!
