As a federal employee let me tell you all, this is an idle threat. I was a in the last 'shutdown' 16 years ago (1995) and was told not to come to work that day. The next day it was all resolved and the government ended up paying me AS IF I HAD WORKED for that one day. The end result will be the government falls behind even more in doing its work, but everyone still draws a paycheck (at 2010 rates of course).

Working fine now. Just for kicks I looked at Iraq's oldest listed exchange rate (Jun 2001 - 1800) and did some math. In the last 10 years the value has increased by 630 dinars, or 63 dinar per year. So following that same logic the value should hit the 1:1 USD ratio in 18.5 more years (hmm, August 2029?). Of course I'd rather it happen in the next few weeks!

I'm pretty sure your referring to the dinars that were stolen from, I believe the CBI, last year. They know the serial numbers to the bills that were stolen so they will not be honored when 'cashed in'. I read a rumor (plausible, but still a rumor) that the group that stole the dinars was selling them on Ebay, which is why everyone 8-10 months ago was very leery of purchasing ebay dinars.
