Iran says it helped the Iraqi army defeat ISIS. The army says no.

Iran and its cheerleaders in Iraq have always stuck to the narrative Tehran had helped the Iraqi army quash ISIS terror group. Furthermore, the Iranian choir claim that Tehran has prevented Iraq from falling apart.
The remarks, seen by commentators as shocking and provocative, provoked response from Gen. Abdel-Wahab al-Saedi, commander of Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) who denied the Iranian claims, saying Tehran had no contributions in the anti-ISIS push led by the Iraqi army and the other elite forces.
"There are no Iranian advisers within the ranks of the CTS forces. All the victories achieved against ISIS terrorists were due to the efforts of the Iraqi army and the US-led coalition," he noted.
"All what is said about Iran's support of the Iraqiarmy is groundless and lies," the senior military official explained.
Lies refuted
According to experts, the remarks of the Iraqi official exposed the Iranian lies, and rendered its claims an lies when it comes to helping Iraq fight terror known to everybody.
"Our forces are coordinating with the US forces. And we have no ties  or coordination with the Iranian troops," al-Saedi said in remarks to Anadolu Agency.
Moreover, he said the CTS has brought American advisers who are working under the auspice of the US-led coalition. They offered air cover, logistical support and  intelligence .
He reiterated there were no non-Iraqi fighters on the ground.
Other experts suggest the remarks come to bolster confidence between the security apparatuses and local residents.
Iraq has regained full territories seized by terrorists of ISIS in 2014. Due to complicity of pro-Iran local officials, the Iraqi army had mysteriously ceded Mosul to the terrorists, enabling ISIS to seize control of one-third of Iraq in its lightning offensive.
American support
The CTS commander expressed optimism about the continuation of progress on fighting terror, citing the big expertise that CTS forces gained during the ant-ISIS operations in Mosul.
Yet al-Saedi reiterated the iraqi forces have nothing to do with the Iranian troops. They are only trained by the US forces.
The US-backed CTS's stance on Iran has facilitated the forces' mission to open channels of correspondence and coordination with local residents. Those people faced dire conditions under the pro-Iran IMIS in several provinces.
Due to the US air support, the CTS managed to expel ISIS terrorists from all the Iraqi cities by the end of 2017. It also played a pivotal role in the battles of Mosul. It somewhat made up for the humiliating loss that happened three years before, when the army retreated, ceding the Iraqi cities to terrorists.
The forces are deployed to the liberated areas. They are on the lookout for any retaliatory attacks by the remnants of ISIS. There are still some sleeper cells in the provinces of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk. In his speech, al-Saedi pointed to an area called 'Triangle of Death' where the terror group has been active, mounting large-scale attacks over the past few months.
After liberating Iraq from ISIS, the official says, as he was cited by a report on Al-Arab newspaper, the CTS forces will focus on its prime mission: enhancing intelligence to track hostile targets and conduct surgical attacks.
"After 2014, we were prompted to carry out missions inside cities due to the harsh realities imposed upon us at the time," he noted.
