Hey all!

This is in the Off Topic forum, so don't shoot me for posting

something completely unrelated to Dinar. I do have a personal

life too, you know!

Actually - I don't think it's so unrelated to Dinar. In fact, there

are a lot of similarities to Body for Life and the Dinar... most

importantly, your interests.

Most of us are interested in the Iraqi Dinar for what it can do to

improve our lives. When the Iraqi Dinar goes up in value, many

of us are going too make a lot of money - and that's awesome!

But let me ask you this:

If you have a ton of money but you have poor health, how rich

are you really?

And even if you still consider yourself to be rich, simply because

your bank account is full... how "full" can your life be without the

good health to enjoy all of your other riches?

You see, there are a lot of ways to be "wealthy". I happen to have

a "wealth" of good things in my life, including my health. I also work

hard to make sure I stay healthy - I exercise 4-6 times per week, I

eat healthy meals, and I watch what I put in my body.

Don't get me wrong... I love a beer or a cocktail just as much as the

next person. I also like to shove some pizza down my gullet once in a

while too!

Moderation is key, though. If you ever find that you're tired during

the day and can't seem to find the energy to do all of the things

you want to do... or maybe you remember when you used to have

a great outlook on life, and now it's a little bleaker... or maybe you

just wish you could take off a couple of those "extra pounds"...

YOU CAN! I'm a huge fan of the "Body for Life" program and I tell

everyone I know about it. I've completed the program twice now...

... and I'm doing it again!

Today is Day 3 for me.

So, why am I posting this here?

Well, I have two reasons.

Number one: I'm a man of my word. When I make a promise, I KEEP IT.

This thread is going to be used for my personal motivation to complete it

once again - and you are ALL my witnesses! There's simply no way I can

start a thread like this and not see it through to the end... so once I click

"Post New Thread", I am STUCK! But - in a good way.

Number two: I like to think I have a little bit of influence here. (I know,

I'm probably just suffering from an over inflated ego, and nobody here

really listens to me.). I am hoping that a few of the members here

will see this thread... follow along with me... give me encouragement...

and more importantly, get encouraged when you see me sticking to my

goals. If I can influence just one person to get healthier, make any kind

of improvement in their daily routine, or even give the Body for Life

program a shot... I'll have accomplished my goal. :)

In the next post: What is Body for Life?

Adam, being a police officer we are required to work out at least 4 times a week then we have Physical Training at the Police Academy once every 6 months to see what kind of shape we stay in and if we don't meet those requirements we are put behind a desk until we meet them, and trust me no wants to work behind a desk. Thank you for posting.

Adam,

I have also done a weight loss program... I use to be 265 pounds... and now i am 170. So things i did that would help me was take pic for progress.. also journal.. if you start to fill a craving coming on drink a full glass of water, a lot of times this will trick your stomach in to thinking you ate some thing.... Also i would try not to eat anything after 6:30pm...b/c you are going to burn less cal's at the end of the day...

Good luck and I know you will do great.

Well, we love to go to buffets and eat because you can eat a bunch for the usual price. The one thing I do first is head for the salad bar and get as much on a plate with a little bit of meat or moderate serving of fish but to fit on that same plate. Remember to, add only a small amount of salad dressing because of the calories it has in the dressing. To top the meal off, I can have a small piece of cake or cookie and there you have it Adam, a well balanced diet that is high in liquid and very satisfied.

Thanks for the posts already! I figured this would get positive

feedback.

What is "Body for Life"?

Body for Life is not only a diet and fitness gude, it's a way of life.

Let me explain:

When you first open your Body for Life book, you are introduced

to the theory that eating 6 small meals per day is much better

than eating 3 meals per day. If your body thinks food is scarce,

it stores fat. If your body thinks food is plentiful, then your metabolism

raises and you burn fat all day. It's a very simple concept.

You are also introduced to the theory of "personal high points". This

program can be tailored to any body type, any age, any level of fitness -

it revolves around your personal levels. As you go through the

exercises, you start out at a "level 5" and push towards a "Level 10". My

level 10 might be running at a 7 minute mile pace, your "Level 10" might

be a fast walk... it doesn't matter, as long as you can hit your Level 10

at the appropriate point in your workout.

That's why this works for anyone!

You are also introduced to the "Free Day" theory. The harder you are on

yourself, the more likely you are to collapse, give up on a different diet, and

fail all together. The "Body for Life" program gives you one day every week

where you can eat ANYTHING. 10 gallons of ice cream, 80 deep fried jalepeno

poppers in one sitting, a bucket of lard... ANYTHING! This ability to "let loose"

and abandon your diet altogether for an entire day each week makes it a HECK

of a lot easier to stick with the entire 12 weeks... you're not on a 12 week

countdown until you can eat a box of Oreos, you're only 6 days away at the

most at any given time!

That's the Body for Life program in a nutshell - I highly recommend it, I've had

great success with it, and I've encouraged many people to do it... and watched

them be successful with it.

The first time I did it was after I quit smoking after 10 years. I put on about

25 pounds over the course of 2 months and had to do something.

12 weeks later I was in better shape than I had ever been in my life, and I'm

still in better shape than I was before I quit smoking 4 years ago. 4 years,

going strong, on the Body for Life principles... I'm living walking talking proof

that the system changes you for good.

Now... on with my success journal!

Day 2 was yesterday, I swam for my cardio.

22 minutes in a 75 ft pool, swam 31 lengths. I was WRECKED after the last lap, when I surfaced I must have huffed and puffed for a good 2 minutes before I could see straight, and I can only imagine what the people in the hot tub were thinking, watching me almost wheeze and basically blow water and maybe some spit all over the floor at the end of my lane :lmao:

I DEFINITELY hit a "10" on the last two and a half minutes of this one!

Oh, I should explain the workout routine a little better. It's bad to work one group of muscles too much without giving them a rest, so the routine goes like this:

Week 1: Focus on upper body

Monday: Upper body (shoulders, biceps, triceps, lats, and chest)

Tuesday: 20 minutes cardio

Wednesday: Lower Body (calves, hams, quads, abs)

Thursday: 20 minutes cardio

Friday: Upper Body

Saturday: 20 minutes cardio

Week 2: Focus on Lower Body

Monday: Lower body

Tuesday: 20 minutes cardio

Wednesday: Upper body

Thursday: 20 minutes cardio

Friday: Lower Body

Saturday: 20 minutes cardio

Alternate upper, lower, upper, lower, etc...

You'll notice Sunday is left out... That's because Sunday is rest and free day - eat whatever you want, don't exercise not even a tiny bit!!!

ok, I know I already slacked on my updates.. but now this THREAD is

part of my home pages, along with 19 other non-fitness related pages!

Seriously, when I open Firefox - my preferred browser - I automatically

have about 20 tabs open. 18 of the 20 are dinar related, one is my email,

and #20 is "Reply to THIS THREAD". Here we go!

Day 3: I was exhausted from the prior day's lack of sleep, and as sometimes

happens - life got in the way. I wasn't able to take a full 36 minutes to do a

lower body workout, so I switched it with my cardio that would have been

on Day 4. I did 3.75 miles on the elliptical in 20 minutes, which is about a 1/4

mile slower than I was at before... no matter, the important thing is I pushed

myself and hit a TEN at the end!

Day 4: I had a lower body workout to make up for, so I headed for the hills

with my daughter and skied (MR PHONICS!!!! WHAT'S THE PAST TENSE OF

SKI?!) for 2.5 hours.

Tomorrow is Day 5, and I'm back on upper body.. the truth is, I'm already a

wreck from this week. The first 3 weeks are always bad, while your body is

getting used to it again.... or maybe, for the first time.

But hey - no pain, no gain! See you tomorrow. :)

I changed it for you. :)

skied 1 (skd)

v.

Past tense and past participle of ski.

I'm not mr. phonics but....we went skiing for 2.5 hours.

I guess would work too.

Just think a tub of lard on sunday!

keep going!

That's one of those words that just doesn't look right to me - it looks like it should be pronounced "Sky'd" when you write it that way. :P

Adam, awesome, yea, it works. I was turned onto BFL 8 years ago in middle age and it changed my life. Dropped 30 lbs and did the whole body re-shaping thing. For all practical purposes, still on a modified version of it and enjoy the benefits. Highly recommend to anyone!

EIGHT YEARS LATER it's still part of your life - that's my point EXACTLY! I love this program, and I'll be on it for the rest of my life in some form or fashion.

Thanks for the post, I need to get down to the dungeon and hit those dumbells :)

I'm back!

The best part of BFL in my opinion is that if you slip up, or miss a workout, it's not the end of the world. If you find yourself at dinner and there isn't anything healthy to eat at that restaurant, well... you make THAT your "free day". If you don't have time to do an Upper Body workout on Monday, but you have 20 minutes for a run - you switch days. And that's what I had to do on Week 1.

I had a heck of a first week - had to rearrange twice!

Day 5 was supposed to be Upper Body, I ran out of time and went for twenty minute run instead.. it fet GREAT! My first run of the new year, I can't wait to get back to running 3+ times a week again. :)

I did get my upper body workout in on Day 6, so overall I met my obligations, just not in the order they were supposed to be done. Sunday I could have gorged on anything I wanted... I had an ice cream sandwich and stuck to my diet the rest of the day. :) I also skied for a couple of hours, but that's just extra credit.

Week 2!!!!

I'm hitting the slopes on Wednesday, and I want to count that for aerobics - so I'm switching this week slightly. I'm supposed to be on Lower Body, here's what I'll do:

Cardio - I ran a couple miles yesterday, hit my first "runner's high" since October!

Lower Body - I'm heading to the gym shortly, then back home to work on Dinar stuff. :)

Cardio - skiing with some friends!

Upper Body - downstairs in the dungeons. I'm cranking it up a notch if I'm not too sore from skiing.

Cardio - weather permitting, I'll run. Otherwise I'll hit the pool on the way to see the accountant.

Lower Body - Either Gym or in the dungeon with dumbells, depending on any errands I might need to run.

You see how this all works? No matter how busy you are, you can make this work!

I'm off to the gym.

KILLED my lower body yesterday, and then the woman wants to get saucy with me this morning... my poor abs! Ah well, such is the life. :)

Today is cardio AKA "complete and total body annihilation" on the slopes day, and then I'll get in here to do some Dinar News work - I've been so busy with work lately I simply haven't had time to spend on the forum, sorry guys! I'll catch up later today.

Day 10, still going strong!

(I have an inside joke to share tomorrow, about my Body For Life book... :))

Every single time someone mentions running as way to exercise and get healthier,

I think about poor Mr. Jim Fixx.

He was a runner.

People looked to him a health guru.

And he fell over, dead as a door nail, while he was running.

Hang on a second.

Need to grab another Haagen-Dazs...

Way to go Adam! You are one determined dude! You've moved things around to make it work and you're keeping on. 10 days is great. I have to say, I'm inspried. Not dong BFL, but have gone on a healthy calorie reduction while trying to hit the gym 4 days a week for eliptical cardio, weights, and swimming laps. Your determination is infectious. Thanks and keep it up!
