I believe the biggest problem in getting Iraq out of chapter 7 is the fact that the Iraq has so far refused to sign off on the border between Iraq and Kuwait. Until they agree, in writing, Kuwait will not let them out of Chapter 7

This is a good article, but I did find it on another forum and want to give credit due to the original poster....Mary Cooper. The following is a quote by her concerning this news:

"...The article is dated 07/24/2011 although it makes reference to to a meeting between Maliki and Obama in the White House on Wednesday. Recycled? But the fact remains it was republished. With Maliki's recent visit to China and China's pledge to help the Iraqi Government's complete removal from Chapter VII, perhaps the US is providing another reiteration to do the same..."

Maliki was in DC on Wednesday?

Did we know that before now?

Why did the Gurus not pump that as "our day"?

Is it just me that feels there is a concerted effort by the worlds media to keep a blackout on the Dinar?

With as much speculation on this investment that is taking place by so many of us,... there is either a concerted effort to ignore or downplay this,.. or we are in the catbird seat of something very very cool.

I would like to think that after 7+ years this train is coming into the station, but with the misdirection and silence that surrounds this event, It is hard not to second guess it all.

Noting that it is almost seven months since the Security Council ended a number of Chapter VII mandates on Iraq, a move unanimously hailed as a major step towards the normalization of its international status, the Secretary-General reminds Iraq to demonstrate “tangible and expeditious” progress on outstanding obligations pertaining to Kuwait, notably missing Kuwaiti persons and property, including archives, and the Iraq-Kuwait boundary maintenance project.

The Secretary-General also reminds the Government that the issue of compensation payments to Iraqi private citizens pursuant to resolution 899 (1994) is still pending, and that the Department of Political Affairs is awaiting a response to proposals it submitted to the Government in that regard. “I have consistently stated that progress on these fronts could create a positive momentum and enable the Security Council to take up my report pursuant to resolution 1859 (2008),” he says. “In this context, both my Special Representative and High-Level Coordinator remain committed to assisting Iraq and Kuwait in bringing closure to long-standing Security Council mandates.

On the status of Kirkuk and other disputed internal territories, the Secretary-General encourages the Iraqi Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to use the standing consultative mechanism under UNAMI to find mutually acceptable solutions that ultimately serve the interests of national reconciliation and long-term stability.

I believe the biggest problem in getting Iraq out of chapter 7 is the fact that the Iraq has so far refused to sign off on the border between Iraq and Kuwait. Until they agree, in writing, Kuwait will not let them out of Chapter 7

Months ago, it was speculated that the most important step toward final lifting of Chapter 7 sanctions would be a letter, from Maliki, acknowledging the Line of Demarcation that separates Iraq from Kuwait.

Maliki, true to his character, has so far, apparently, refused to do so.

He is now petitioning the UNSC Permanent Members to assist him, a move that will give him an excuse to drag it out.

Maliki is not likely to do anything he is told to do.

He will make a big show of taking the most difficult route to any task that will benefit the Iraqi people.

Maliki has NO interest whatsoever in benefiting the people of Iraq.

At this point, dissolving the GOI and starting over could be a quicker path in the development of Iraq than letting Maliki continue the charade of a functional government, with him as King.

Each day this decision is postponed, throws off the critical timing that is now reaching a point of convergence.

All indications show that this point of convergence has being sidetracked in the past due to benchmarks being purposely sabotaged by Big M.

Let us hope that someone puts a muzzle on him this time, before he screws it up again.

It is time to introduce him to the fine art of letter writing.

Stupid article... Obama can't release Iraq. It's enforced by the UN. Where do these obvious forgeries come from, and why do people not have anything better to do

You were zinged with negatives because you read the article wrong. First off the translation programs are not that great, ask anyone that has read these articles over the months. Second, it does not state that Obama will get them out of Chapter 7, the quote is "make efforts" which more than likely means support in the U.N. to have them removed from Chapter 7.

This is how I have been feeling for years about this investment. Maliki is the cancer here. He needs to be removed now.
