Popular Post randalln
My great grandmother was there and my grandfather told great storys about the years after and how it changed every thing So for the nay sayers that don't think history repeats itself at the time this happened nobody believed that this thing call oil would change anything but do some research and see for your self how the USD gained agents all the other currencies in the world and how many rich people were maid from it. January 10, 1901: Patillo Higgins' theory that a large pool of oil awaited discovery under a salt dome located south of Beaumont came true. Higgins had spent most of the previous decade trying to convince others that this was so and raise capital to drill a discovery well. The site was first known as Gladys Hill, and later as Spindletop, named for a tree growing there that resembled a child's toy. Higgins first partnered with George O'Brien, George Carroll, Emma John, and J.F. Lanier in the Gladys City Oil, Gas, and Manufacturing Company, but their shallow wells failed to locate oil. Later a Czech engineer, Anthony Lucas, joined the search in 1899, and before the discovery well blew in he had taken in so many partners to raise capital to keep going that he retained only a small interest.Beaumont Gusher Postcard courtesy rootsweb.com/ %7Etxpstcrd/The Spindletop gusher was located on land owned by the McFaddin, Weiss, and Kyle families, adjacent to dry holes drilled earlier. The discovery well blew out six tons of drill pipe with sufficient force to sustain a 100-foot geyser of oil until capped ten days later, and flowed an estimated 100,000 barrels daily. By the time the well was capped the drilling rig sat in a lake of oil.Spindle Top Oil Field, Beaumont, Texas Postcard courtesy rootsweb.com/%7Etxpstcrd/Spindletop changed the world. Coming about the time the internal combustion engine was adopted by the newautomobile industry, it perfectly fulfilled the supply-and-demand symbiosis. Great 20th-century companies, notably Gulf Oil, TEXACO, and Hughes Tool Company, were born in the race to get rich from Spindletop's black gold. I Ableman was an enterprising young man in 1901. He collected empty bottles behind saloons, filled them with oil from the lake created by Spindletop, and sold them for $1 each to tourists who had ridden special excursion trains from Houston and New Orleans to view the phenomenon. By then oil sold for only 10 cents a barrel at the well head, such was its abundance. Spindletop offered many ways to make a buck. Popular Post randalln
Now you may say what dose this have to do with the RV well Iraq is set to be just like this because they still have fields that have not be explored yet and the oil literally pumps itself out the ground I have worked my whole life in and around the oil industry being from Beaumont,Texas and when things go right you make a lot of money Now after being in Iraq since 2003 and working with the iraqis i can tell you most of them have better education than a lot of people i work with i have ditch diggers with collage degrees in chem, mech, and civil engineering just waiting for a chance to make a good life. I can promise you they are hungry for knowledge and not lazy.I truly believe that when this cuts lose We will see something amazing when is put back in their hands. The money will come like hand over fist and there will be no way to stop it not even Iran will effect the outcome. Just like 100 years ago when they said those people in Texas are crazy they don't know anything about oil its only use is lanterns, and what do we need more lanterns for. Everybody knows electricity is the new thing and its made from dams on rivers . HMMMMMMMM well we showed them!!!!!!! So just be patient its coming hope that a lot of you will take the chance to come out here and see the history its all around. Ive been to Babylon , Ive even seen Abrahams house. Still out there it would be a shame not to see first hand how and where all this religion got started And remember these people are just getting started at what we have been doing for a 100 years they have been in conflict every since Europe divided this place up .

Mrgrizz44
I would love to see history repeat itself in North Dakota, Wyoming, South Dakota and continue in Alaska as well. The day after this thing RRRRVVVVs. The U.S. is sitting on a ton of oil but we are having a hard time getting it due to the EPA and Libs. The Alaska pipeline is running at about 1/3 its capacity and could run full if AMWR was opened up. They say that the Dakotas have more oil than most of the M.E. countries. Think of all the jobs it would create if we got that rolling. Lets take some of our gains, open a refinery and lower the cost of fuel in the U.S. and lower the unemployment rate at the same time. I guess since Obama cant do his job some industrious Americans will have to do it for him.

FlintNPebbles
I start work up in north Dakota on august 29 on drilling rigs. There are about 180 drilling rigs in that area now. North Dakota is my home state....just moved from there 9 years ago. The oil boom comes and goes and they barely touch whats under there. In the 70's it was a mad place then in the 80's it burst and everyone moved away. There were hundreds of wells just drilled, capped and waiting. The answer to any of my questions has always been that it's to expensive to extract it??? Doesn't really make sense to me since they have so many wells that are already drilled....just need to put the pumper on. Do you have housing lined up? Anytime I have talked about the boom with my friends back home they say housing shortages are awful....and with the floods in Minot and Bismarck it made it worse. What part of the state are you headed to? Sorry for the hijack....just don't hear from to many people who are actually heading TO North Dakota

Jmcc
I grew up in southern Illinois. Back in the 50's, lots of Texas wildcatters came there and drilled many wells. Some made a ton of money, but it did not last long. Knew a lot of guys that went from broke to flush and back to broke in a few years. People that made the money were the people that sold equipment. That trend came back in the 70's. Illinois oil is high sulphide and does not command the price that Texas crude does, but it does sell. Randalln knows what a stripper well is, one that doesn't produce much, but if the price is right, we can pump. I haven't lived there in quite some time, but I do go back. Right now they are exploring again and drilling again and a lot of the stripper wells are being opened back up. Tax wise it is cheaper to drill new than try to pump a stripper, so the new wells are being drilled close to the strippers. Every now and then somebody will hit a gusher and the equipment moves back in. And when the rush is done, they all leave. Hope that doesn't happen to Iraq.
