Iraq estimates its population by the end of 2021
Today, Sunday, the Iraqi Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation estimated the population of Iraq at the end of the current year 2021, indicating that the capital, Baghdad, is the most populous province, while noting that the country's population growth is still high.

The official spokesman for the ministry, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, said that "the population of Iraq, according to the population estimates of the Central Bureau of Statistics, will be more than 41 million at the end of 2021."

Al-Hindawi added that “the capital, Baghdad, ranked first in terms of population, as it is expected that the population in it will be between 8.750 million to 8.800 million people, followed by Nineveh in the second place, with up to 4 million people, and then Basra third with more than 3 million people, and then comes Dhi Qar, Babil and Sulaymaniyah with more than two million people,” noting that “the least populated governorates is the Muthanna governorate, with 860 thousand people.”

Al-Hindawi pointed out that "the annual population growth rate of 2.6 percent is still high, despite its decline from 3.5 percent ten years ago, as converting this percentage to a number, we are talking about the size of an annual population increase ranging from 850,000 to one million people annually," explaining Iraq is the second largest population growth among the Arab countries after Egypt.

Al-Hindawi pointed out that "the Ministry of Planning, in order to reduce the impact of the increasing population growth and take advantage of this increase, started years ago by integrating the population dimension into development plans, and also developed long-term population policies."

He explained that "these policies are based on a set of tracks aimed at transforming population increases from a burden on development to effective development policies, including attention to youth, which is the largest segment through empowering them and providing them with job opportunities, as well as providing housing and the health track by providing better health conditions and the education track. The path of providing services and infrastructure, the path of women and their empowerment, and the path of partnership with the private sector.”

The last population census was conducted in Iraq in 1997, and over the past 15 years, the political forces did not agree to conduct the census, which is the basis for distributing wealth in the country, drawing development plans, evaluating their results, and setting correct plans for reconstruction.

So does this qualify as a "Census" of some type ?       😎

It sure reads like it! Estimates this year with an actual count starting end of 2022. With everything going on right now, I’m thinking they are not thinking of waiting till the end of 2022 to kick Iraq into the bright lights!

As much as I would like this to count as the census, I don't think it will be adequate for the HCL. They will need more accurate info so they can properly send the oil revenue to the households. Just my opinion

OK...So I seem to have goggles on today, so bare with me, lol

Being that they came out with these figures.....

Maybe it's enough to satisfy accounting requirements of a census toward an HCL agreement?

I mean enough to revalue the damn currency?

Do I sound like FRANK?  Come on humor me 😅

All good questions👍

Anything is possible. I'm not 100% sold that they need the HCL to RV but many others are so we will see.

announced that the Ministry of Planning, on Tuesday, for the development of a new plan concerning the implementation of the census for the current year, as indicated on the move on the national card career figure, revealed its forecast for the inflation index.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the ministry's preparations are continuing to conduct the general population census, as it is implementing field experiments in many provinces, the last of which was in the capital, Baghdad, and it carried out an electronic experiment for the general population census in three Areas represented in the Al-Shorja area and the Arab market as they are crowded commercial areas, as well as a random gathering of housing and a vertical residential complex,” noting that “the aim of this experiment is to test the work of the Ministry in different environments, and before that there were previous experiments in Dohuk, Erbil, Anbar and Karbala.” And in Basra and in Baghdad, the last experience.”
He added that "the ministry's preparations are continuing in implementing the general population census," noting that "the planning is now preparing an integrated plan for the year 2022, which may witness the implementation of the general population census."
He added, "No deadline has been set for the implementation of the census, as the ministry is waiting for the budget law to be issued so that there is financial coverage for the project," explaining that "the ministry needs 120 billion dinars to cover the census requirements."
He pointed out that "there are many procedures and steps that precede the census that should be completed, in addition to the process of training enumerators," noting that "at least 150 thousand enumerators will participate in the implementation of the general census of the population, and these need intensive training during the summer vacation." .
And he added that "there are about 25 courses that the enumerators will receive, in addition to the ministry's need to secure the electronic environment by creating tablets through which the census will be carried out, and there is also the issue of numbering and enumeration, which is the backbone of the general census of the population, and this precedes the census and continues." For a period of approximately two months,” noting that “all these procedures should be fully completed to achieve the basic requirements of the census and to reach the last stage and the last step of the general census of the population, which will be carried out electronically.”
He pointed out that "the date for conducting the census is within the authority of the head of the Supreme Census Authority and the Minister of Planning," stressing that "the minister will announce the date of conducting the population census when he finds the conditions have been completed and the special requirements."
He added, "The ministry will need cadres and staff from outside to conduct the census, since the number of employees to conduct it needs 150,000 counters, and this matter will be done through the use of the Ministry of Education and teaching and educational staff, in addition to benefiting from graduates who do not have job opportunities."
On the file of the job number, Al-Hindawi confirmed that "work is still ongoing in this file, as the ministry has entered about 3 million employees during the past month," stressing that "work is continuing through the Diwaniyah Order 55 Committee, which is chaired by the Director of the Central Bureau of Statistics and includes in its membership representatives of a number of From the relevant authorities and ministries, and the ministry hopes that the platform will be fully completed during this year.”
He added that "there are still requirements that should be completed by entering the data for each of the ministries," noting that "there is work to link the file of the job number platform to the unified national card project to obtain integrated biometric data for all Iraqi state employees."
He revealed, "There is a tendency to limit employees who do not have the unified national card. We have about 500,000 employees in all state institutions who have not yet obtained the unified national card, and therefore there is a high-level cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior, specifically the unified national card project to issue cards to these employees and link the two projects." With some".
He continued, "The ministry is working at the present time, except for the region as a first stage, and I think that the second stage will be available to the region to join this platform," explaining that "the platform will definitely be very important in the process of recording data for all Iraqi state employees, and therefore it will be essential in Paying employees' salaries when they are completed.
Regarding inflation rates, Al-Hindawi commented that “the whole world is witnessing a remarkable rise in inflation indicators as a result of many reasons, and among these reasons, supply chains in the world are cut off as a result of the Corona pandemic and its repercussions. The rise in their prices, as this rise included Iraq, and the prices of foodstuffs and construction materials rose with a clear increase in recent months, and this was reflected in the inflation index.
He stressed that "the annual inflation index for the month of November of this year compared to the same month of last year 2020, the rate of increase was 8.4, while the monthly inflation began to decrease its rise for the last month, and the inflation rate rose by 0.5, which represents half of one percent compared to October.
And he added, "This year, we may expect a state of stability in the indicators of inflation," noting that "inflation is always on the rise, but there is a rampant inflation, and sometimes a logical rise, and what is happening in Iraq until the moment is a logical and under control."
