The Central Bank of Iraq decided to include banks allowed to participate in the electronic platform and wishing to sell cash dollars for travel, treatment and study purposes.

The Central Bank announced its decision to allow the aforementioned banks to sell cash dollars, Sunday (January 8, 2022), confirming the expansion of the number of outlets selling foreign currency in bank branches in the capital, Baghdad, under the direct supervision of the inspection teams of this bank.

It is noteworthy that the Central Bank has previously expanded the number of outlets for banks to sell foreign currency from 10 to 20 banks, following the success of its initiative to enhance the stability of the currency market.

This comes within the framework of the Iraqi government's efforts to control the price of the dollar in the Iraqi currency market, and raise the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar against the US currency.

The Iraqi markets are witnessing a crisis after the decline in the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar against the US dollar to below the rate set by the Central Bank of Iraq, which led to market confusion, and fears among citizens of the rise in the price of the dollar more despite the assurances of the Iraqi government to return the exchange rate to the specified level.

On Sunday, the price of every 100 US dollars reached more than 156,500 dinars in the currency markets of Baghdad, the Kurdistan Region and the rest of the Iraqi provinces.
