A bloody day in Iraq with the militias of Iran

- 3 Hours Have Passed

%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82-32-

BAGHDAD - Iraq's cities and provinces witnessed bloody protests after tough security dealings with demonstrators demanding the overthrow of the ruling political class for 16 years, a clear sign of the desperation of parties linked to Iran in defending its interests while refusing to respond to the demands of the demonstrators.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered on Saturday in Tahrir Square in central Baghdad, where security forces used tear gas to disperse them.

On Friday, 40 people were killed in Baghdad and southern Iraq, after the demanded protests resumed earlier this month, killing 157 people, most of them with live bullets.

Demonstrators accuse Iran-linked militias, which control Iraq's political decision, of working to target peaceful demonstrators demanding radical reforms and overthrowing the entire political class that has failed to govern the country.

The death toll among protesters rose to 30 on Friday in Iraq, including eight in Baghdad, the Iraqi Human Rights Commission said in a statement. Half of them were shot dead in the south of the country, where demonstrators tried to storm a headquarters of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, one of the most prominent factions of the Popular Mobilization militia, according to security and medical sources.

Among the dead were three in the southern oil city of Basra, which saw a similar week of violence last year. Eleven protesters were killed on Friday night after burning the headquarters of the Badr Organization, the largest faction of the Popular Mobilization in the southern city of Diwaniya, according to security sources.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command said security forces would deal with terrorists during ongoing protests; "While the country is witnessing demonstrations to demand the rights guaranteed by the Iraqi constitution, some have taken advantage of these demonstrations, killing citizens, injuring others and burning and looting public and private property without any conscience," the Operations Command said in a statement.

"Our heroic security forces of all kinds will deal firmly with these criminal saboteurs in accordance with the Anti-Terrorism Law. These illegal acts are a crime that must be dealt with immediately in the field and urgently."

Authorities announced a curfew in Basra, Babil and Nasiriyah, and security forces dispersed protesters in the Shiite holy city of Karbala with water cannons and tear gas.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the massive violations of human rights by the security forces in Iraq.

Demonstrators set fire to the buildings of the provinces of Dhi Qar and Diwaniya, and burned more than a dozen headquarters of political parties in the south of the country, according to security sources. Security forces repelled a barrage of tear gas on Friday by thousands of demonstrators gathered in central Baghdad.

All security forces have been on alert since Thursday evening by Adel Abdel Mahdi's government, which on Friday completed its first year in power.

Riot police used tear gas to try to block the demonstrators' progress and keep them out of the Green Zone, which houses government and diplomatic headquarters, especially the US embassy. This prompted protesters to return to the symbolic Tahrir Square, which is separated from the Green Zone by the Republic Bridge.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Protesters said on Saturday they had turned their protests into an open sit-in in Baghdad and 9 central and southern provinces until demands for the resignation of Adel Abdul-Mahdi's government were met and killers of protesters brought to justice.

"We decided to turn the demonstration into an open sit-in after the government announced a curfew," said Karim al-Shamli, coordinator of the Basra protests.

"What happened in Basra (Friday) of the deliberate killing of demonstrators will not go unnoticed," he said.

Yassin al-Maksousi, the coordinator of the demonstrations in the southern province of Dhi Qar, said that "the coordinators of the protests in all the rising provinces in Baghdad and the central and southern provinces agreed to turn the demonstrations into an open sit-in, which means we stay on the streets until our demands are met."

"There will be no bargaining this time, we will face bullets steady on our positions," he said, pointing out that "the bodies that killed the demonstrators on Friday are known to all and documented in videos and the government or the judiciary does not need investigation committees to uncover the truth."

Also, the House of Representatives was scheduled to hold a meeting Saturday at 1 pm (10.00 GMT), in order to "discuss the demands of demonstrators and the decisions of the Council of Ministers and the implementation of reforms," according to the agenda of the Council, but announced its postponement indefinitely, due to lack of quorum .

So far, parliament has been paralyzed by divisions among its political blocs, and has been unable to vote on a cabinet reshuffle for lack of a quorum on more than one occasion.

On Thursday night, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi addressed the nation defending his achievements, accusing his predecessors of having handed him over to a nation with a depleted economy and fragile security.

On October 6, the Iraqi government issued a series of "important" decisions during an extraordinary session chaired by Abdul Mahdi, which included a package of reforms to calm the anger of the demonstrators.

Calls for a demonstration on Friday, the first anniversary of Abdul Mahdi's government, have escalated since the end of the two-week deadline given to the authorities by the country's top Shi'ite religious authority.

Experts say that the failure to adopt radical reforms demanded by Iraqis after four decades of war in a country ranked 12 in the list of the most corrupt countries in the world, is only a postponement of the problem.

Simple rumors have brought down cities: Iraqis are fighting false news

- Two Hours Have Passed

%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82-%D8

BAGHDAD - The flood of rumors in Iraq has prompted young men and women to work to combat the widespread false news in light of mounting protests against the country's 16-year-old political class.

200 volunteers from Tech4Peace, anonymous young men and women in Iraq, Europe, the United States and elsewhere in the world, are scrutinizing information circulated in the media and social media for authenticity.

Since the second day of protests marred by bloody violence, Iraqi authorities have cut off the Internet to stop the flow of rumors. Since October 2, Tech4Peace, a non-governmental organization, has been moving its relations to circumvent the blackout.

The network found that ISIS statements calling for the demonstration are false, and the orders of the family of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to return to the street are also false.

Death sentences In the current context of protests that killed more than 150 people in early October, according to official figures, some false information could lead to serious consequences, warns Sami, who uses a pseudonym and says that for several days “pictures are circulating of people accused of To kill demonstrators. ”

Sami confirms that this type of advertising, similar to the death sentence on a person in the street, pointing out that "Tech for Peace" has achieved "dozens of times about people accused of belonging to jihadists, and distributed pictures and names on the Internet, although they have nothing to do with terrorism."

On Thursday, the network published a new publication, “Watch out! Fake publication ”.

Network investigators show that the photos of soldiers accused of shooting at demonstrations on social media are actually soldiers killed in the battles against ISIS years ago.

Tech4Peace continues to scrutinize the information, despite the fact that social media continues to be blocked in Iraq, some are still able to access it through VBN applications.

In Iraq, where the majority of the media are biased by parties or parties, many people say they prefer to rely on groups via WhatsApp and Facebook to follow local news.

But in those applications, too, "videos with deceptive titles or unreliable sources" are often posted by people "on pages and accounts they don't know are broadcasting false information," Sami said.

The amount of documents published in these collections as official is innumerable, and they announce decisions that are often credible but sometimes completely false. Politicians, parties, and even state institutions are often forced to deny and denounce false statements, sometimes even after they are broadcast in the media.

Once, a former president expressed his deep condolences to an artist who is still alive, but some Facebook pages have announced his death, according to blogger Saad Al Kaabi.

The young man who runs a website in Baghdad adds that besides the fact that “officials get their information from social media”, “the authorities sometimes launch test balloons.” "There are rumors being launched on the Internet to see the reaction of the street."

"The situation is always complicated and people can easily fall prey to rumors," said Reda Najmuddin, a 50-year-old worker in a 40-year war-torn country.

Iraqis always mention that because of simple rumors, entire areas fell to IS. In 2014, they say, the flight of the security forces was caused by rumors of massive numbers of jihadists, which in reality were not true.

Today, too, the risk of rumors remains, according to Susan Aziz, a 46-year-old housewife.

The sources were surprised by the "total absence of representatives of the people who are awaiting the issuance of decisions under the dome of parliament related to the implementation of the reforms introduced by Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi in response to the demands of the demonstrators, as well as resolving the file of special grades, which are mostly vacant and the reshuffle."

If you really look at the situation, this could have been predicted but is even more bold than I had anticipated.

Remember the picture of him talking to Trump

Wasn't it this very guy that Trump said we have some really important things to talk about in private?  ...

I bet Trump had every person already picked for another govt.,

they just needed the people to make the choice of getting rid of the old one.

I told you these guys are masters of this move.

Hundreds of protesters gathered on Sunday in Tahrir Square in central Baghdad, in a new challenge after a long night of demonstrations by demonstrators demanding to "topple the regime" used security forces to disperse tear gas.

Iraqis continued to rally despite the death toll exceeded 60 in the second wave of anti-government protests that began on Thursday evening. Some were shot dead, some with tear gas and others burned during the burning of political party headquarters.

"We went out to sack the government," said one protester, who wrapped his head with an Iraqi flag.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi made several proposals to implement reforms that were not convincing to the demonstrators.

"We don't want neither Halbousi nor Abdul Mahdi. We want to overthrow the regime," the protester said.

The scene in the symbolic Tahrir Square in the center of the capital today was chaotic.

Elsewhere, some pitched tents as volunteers began distributing food and water to protesters.

It was also noted that large numbers of women and students descended into nearby squares. In implementation of a student sit-in included primary, middle and preparatory schools and even university students.

Two elderly women, wearing black robes and covering their heads with a black veil, waved the Iraqi flag and swayed to the music and chants after standing on a concrete barrier.

"I'm here for the future of children," said a girl who declined to be named.

After the killing of Baghdadi .. Meet his successor Turkmen officer in the former Iraqi army

27th October, 2019

With the announcement of the death of ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, attention is turning to his successor, who was nominated by al-Baghdadi two months before his death.

Last August, ISIS-affiliated media reported that Baghdadi nominated Iraqi Turkmen Abdullah Qardash as his "successor" in leading the group, which announced the return of the caliphate after taking control of Iraqi and Syrian territory in 2014.

The nominated caliph, identified as Abu Omar Qardash, a Turkoman, was a former Iraqi army officer under Saddam Hussein, with leadership experience in extremist organizations in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Well-informed sources say that Khalifa al-Baghdadi, nicknamed the "destroyer," was held at Bucca Prison (Basra province).

According to the sources, "Qardash" was close to the leader Abu Alaa al-Afri (deputy Baghdadi and the second man in the leadership of ISIS, killed in 2016), "and his father was an articulate rationalist", and is characterized by cruelty and authoritarianism and militancy, and was the first to receive Baghdadi during the fall of Mosul .

Abu Omar Qardash became the Emir of the General Security Bureau in Syria and Iraq, one of the most powerful bureaucracies within ISIS, responsible for protecting the leadership and getting rid of the enemies of the organization. He also previously supervised the Board of Grievances, one of the service departments established by ISIS during its control of cities. He also served as defense minister within the organization and personally supervised booby traps in Syria.

Abu Bakr al-Iraqi, a former Baghdadi deputy, nominated him to be the leader of the organization's branch in Lebanon during the group's thinking of establishing a branch there, but the idea was later canceled. Abu Omar Qirdash was one of al-Baghdadi's companions in the group's latest video, `"Hosted by the Commander of the Faithful'', in April 2019. He also held the post of "general military" of the formerly known as "wilayat al-Sham" and personally supervised the leadership of the organization's battles in Raqqa, according to an earlier document published by ISIS research and advisory office Abu Muhammad al-Husseini al-Hashimi.

It is noteworthy that at the end of July, the head of the "Falcons Cell" of the Iraqi Interior, Abu Ali Basri, said that "Baghdadi" is in Syria, "and made changes to compensate the terrorists killed in recent years." Al-Basri also said that Baghdadi suffered paralysis of his limbs due to shrapnel hit by a rocket in the backbone during an operation by the Falcons Cell in coordination with the Air Force, while meeting with his assistants in the area of "Hajin'' southeast of the Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor, before its release in 2018.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Ibrahim Awad al-Badri al-Samarrai, was the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq until June 2014 when he declared the establishment of a state of "caliphate", after his fighters managed to control large swaths of Syria and Iraq, and took the city of Mosul, the capital of his country.

In September 2018, the Iraqi army and its US-backed counterparts managed to drive ISIS out of Mosul, and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces also managed to drive it out of Syrian territory, confined to the border areas with Iraq.

US State Department comments on the demonstrations in Iraq

2019/10/28 8:52

The US State Department announced on Sunday that it is following the situation in Iraq closely, as protests continue for a third day, while calling on all parties to "renounce violence." "We support freedom of expression. Press freedom is fundamental to democratic reform," the State Department said in a statement. "We are concerned about pressures on the media covering the demonstrations."

The statement added: "The United States supports the Iraqi government and the Iraqi people, and we are working to stabilize and security of Iraq and preserve its sovereignty." This comes after thousands of Iraqi protesters remained in Tahrir Square in central Baghdad on Sunday, in defiance of a bloody security campaign that killed dozens over the past two days and a raid by security forces during the night to disperse them.

Youths set up barricades on a bridge leading to the city's fortified Green Zone to separate them from security forces, who continued to throw tear gas canisters at them. Medical and security sources said 77 people were injured. At least 74 Iraqis were killed and hundreds wounded on Friday and Saturday when demonstrators clashed with security forces and armed factions in a second wave of protests against Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi's government this month, bringing the overall death toll in October to 231.
