Dear God in heaven I did not know those slimeballs still had that many civilians under their control?

WOW and  the rest of the country is having all kinds of celebrations. This is madness.

nannab Agree,   This is why PM Abadi and most of the other Arab countries and Western Countries stated now is not the right time for this referendum.

Nonetheless,  Barzani insist on moving forward because he knows PM Abadi is slowly but surely stamping out corruption from within the GOI & KRG.

The Western Nations will no longer accept this rampant corruption from Iraqi politicians as well as KRG politicians.  All of them have stole the wealth from the citizens & country.  Guilty as charged.

**Maliki's Day will come one day & justice will be served IMHO.

ISIS terrorists attacked three areas in the governorate of Anbar, the NRT  news reported Wednesday.

ISIS terrorists launched attacks on the areas of Tash, Majar and Kilo 7 in the governorate.

The terrorists were wearing explosive belts used light weapons in the attack.

The clashes between the Iraqi forces and ISIS terrorists were ongoing.

Reports said 18 wounded people were transferred to Ramadi hospitals and the police station in Kilo 7 area has been surrounded by the militants.

ISIS managed to seize large swathes of territory in northern and western Iraq and eastern Syria in 2014, establishing a self-declared on the territories it captured.

The hardline Sunni group has lost control over several territories in both countries during the past few months.

Honestly, I don't see these folks pulling the RV trigger until the vestiges of ISIS are removed from Iraq. Then Iraq can State unequivocally, Iraq is a " secure state. " It will go a long way to boost international confidence and investment.

Not being mean spirited here; it's just what this looks like they are trying to do. Probably boost the IQD to a more rock solid foundation in the long run. Does look more like ( perhaps ) 1st qtr. 2018 for trigger pull ?

The Best Of Your Weekend To You, 10 Years Later! :salute:

With all the hoopla earlier this year about major changes after Mosul is fully taken from ISIS, I suspect the total retaking of ISIS controlled areas in Iraq, and possibly Syria, is a better indicator of where things are going with regard to the timing of this investment. I could be wrong, but the articles seem to indicate the remaining ISIS controlled areas will be easier to retake in Iraq. Looks like a lot of small villages all over the place except for Qaim near the border with Syria. There may be some ISIS training camps in remote areas but pretty sure the GPS coordinates for those areas is already locked and loaded. Raqqa is nearly retaken in Syria and will be fully retaken in the next couple of weeks and maybe even days. However, there appears to be a string of urban areas along rivers in Syria that may take some time to fully retake from ISIS. The reason I bring up ISIS in Syria here is there may be a need to fully retake all the areas in both Syria and Iraq to eliminate any threat of regrowth and resurgence while also wiping out sources of ISIS income from ISIS held areas in Syria and Iraq so that reconstruction can commence without the threat of resurgent ISIS from ISIS controlled areas. I think there will always be the potential for ISIS sleeper cells to enact violence but this is likely not too different from past history. Looks like ISIS sleeper cell eruptions are being addressed effectively now in Iraq and I suspect will also be effectively addressed n the future.

The powder keg to me in this whole deal is not getting the Iraqi reconstruction and economic growth underway in the very, very near future to alleviate potential for sectarian conflict that could lead to Civil War. Even though Iraq has been and could remain a fragile democracy with a dysfunctional government, the people's needs (especially basic human needs) and personal economic aspirations really need to be provided for by the Iraqi Government or there could be a huge upheaval internally and with external influences such as Iran. We all know what happens when the heat cranks up in the sand box so whatever economic and reconstructive cooling effects need to be in effect need to be in place before the heat arrives and everybody gets after each other.

In my way of thinking, the monetary aspects need to be in place before the tsunami of foreign investment arrives in Iraq and the major reconstruction (with associated imports) occurs. Of course, just my opinion and :twocents:

An impending military operation to liberate the last bastion strongholds in western Anbar

 Baghdad / Wael Ne'ma

When an urgent presence from Iraq, which is imminent as troops surround their last stronghold in western Anbar, ends, Iraq will have to re-demarcate the border with Syria.
The strip separating the two countries, which stretches more than 600 km, no longer includes signs or barriers that show the borders of the two countries, especially when the district "Qaim" bordering the Syrian city of Abu Kamal.

The radical organization when "breaking the border" between Iraq and Syria in 2014 destroyed everything there, which could foreshadow a future problem between Iraq and Syria over the demarcation of the new border.
To date, Iraq controls almost half of the border strip between the two countries, while still defying periodically attacking the Iraqi factions on the tape editor.
The grassroots crowd and the border guards share control of the border, while the two sides have no sophisticated potential for this difficult task, officials said.
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's "Facebook" was published yesterday, a picture of the last during his visit to the operations command, and noted that "Abadi meets with its leaders and is aware of the latest developments in the liberation of the remaining land and secure the border."
The border operation appears to be at the top of the military echelon, as Iraq is drawing closer to the latest fighting against a militant organization.
The Iraqi factions have recently secured the distance between the Al-Walid crossing on the Syrian border and Trebil on the Jordanian border of the wetland district 440 km west of Ramadi.
The distance between the two runners is about 40 km. Eid al-Karbouli, a member of the Anbar Provincial Council, said that "Border Guard troops and one of the popular crowd control the tape."
Local authorities in Anbar announced in August last year the liberation of al-Waleed and al-Walid border crossing. The authorities said that the liberation process "came in a military operation, carried out by the tribal crowd fighters with the support of the international coalition."
The formation of the Desert Falcons, which includes some 2,000 fighters, is one of the most prominent tribal factions controlling the border. This formation is widespread in desert areas west of the wetlands. Last June, Border Guard troops first arrived at the port to liberate it.
Iraqi forces withdrew in May 2015 from the al-Waleed crossing, 450 km west of Baghdad, after Da'ash control of the Syrian border crossing.
"After the liberation of the newborn, the troops moved about 80 kilometers north of al-Walid," said Karbouli, whose tribe lives in the border town of Qaim.
The local official said that "
Karbouli estimates the distance controlled by Iraq at the border between Anbar and Syria, with a distance of 110 km, a total length of 280 km.

The province is bankrupt ,
but the official says that the other hand , "keeping the border is not an easy task , " he said, adding that "Daesh has great capabilities in exchange for the potential of the shy Iraqi forces."
The Anbar provincial council met earlier with the leaders of the Second Border Guard, which is supposed to assume the task of guarding the border protection mission.
During the discussion with the leaders, according to local officials who spoke to the (range), the local government demanded the allocation of "350 million dinars" to buy thermal cameras and caravans.
Although the required amount is included in the governorate budget for the current year, the local government has not received its allocations at a time when it is facing the growing dilemma of the displaced and the reconstruction of destroyed cities.
In the meantime, the US company, which has been in charge of rehabilitating the international Trebil road so far, has not arrived.
Emad al-Dulaimi, the mayor of the city of Erba, denied the reasons why the US company did not start its work so far.
Al-Dulaimi said in a statement to Al-Mada yesterday that trade improvisation meets and comes every three days in the custody of military patrols, while civilian convoys pass without limited supervision.

Demarcation of the border on
the other side talking about Eid al - Karbouli "Daesh experience" in the desert and its ability to harsh climate , which is exploited to launch attacks on Iraqi forces.
"Before the emergence of Dahesh, al-Qaeda was infiltrating permanently through Qaim and targeting officers inside the judiciary despite the presence of Iraqi and Syrian border forces," Karbouli said.
The local official sees the difficulty of controlling the border without coordination with the Syrian side, in addition to using the capabilities of the international coalition.
Karbouli attributes the suspension of operations in western Anbar to the arrival of Syrian troops to Albu Kamal, 7 km away from
Iraqi Husaybah
In a related context, the local official is likely to face Iraq a problem in re-demarcation of the border with Syria, especially in Qaim. "There are no earthmounds, barbed wire or even signs that show the lands of both countries," he said.
In August 2014, he announced the formation of the "Euphrates state" within the process of "breaking the border", and abolished the borders drawn according to the agreement Sykes Picot.
At the time, the militants destroyed the berms between the two countries to become a strategic route used by the dossier to transport weapons and fighters.

"Crowd" did not move
On the other hand, the popular crowd is still linked in its positions west of Nineveh, which he managed to edit since June.
The crowd controls a distance of less than 50 km, while the Peshmerga forces held 110 km from Mount Sinjar to the port of Rabia, according to Ahmed Yusuf, the governor of Baaj.
In September 2014, the Peshmerga forces managed to enter the area of Rabia, adjacent to the Syrian border, armed with fighters from the Shamar tribe, and took control of the port between the two countries.
"The popular crowd has not moved forward in liberating the border because it is waiting for the attack on Rawa and al-Qaim," Yusuf said.
Officials close to the theater of operations estimate that the liberation of western Anbar will begin in the next two weeks, as new sections approach the areas of Sad in Akashat and Aana.
"The forces guarding the border, from the popular crowd, are constantly patrolling and losing their potential," said Abdulkarim al-Jarba, a leader of the tribal crowd in western Nineveh.
"The patrols are constantly attacked from the border strip and close to Qaim, while Kurdish forces control most of the border strip in Syrian territory," he said.
