Abadi meets al-Jubeir

Saudi Arabia has congratulated Iraq on its ongoing victories on ISIS terror group, stressing its nonstop solidarity with Baghdad to liberate all its territories, The Baghdad Post reported Wednesday. 

In a brief statement, Iraqi Foreign Ministry said, "Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi met in Washington Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel al-Jubair, on the sidelines of a meeting of foreign ministers of the international coalition fighting ISIS." 

The statement said that the meeting tackled means to boost bilateral ties and the blessing of the victories achieved on ISIS gangs as well as  supporting Iraq in the fight against terrorism.

Abadi from Washington: We are about to eliminate ISIS

Iraqi PM Haidar al-Abadi said on Wednesday his country's victory over ISIS terror group is imminent, confirming  the Iraqi forces were about to retake Mosul. 


Addressing representatives of the 68-member international coalition fighting the so-called Islamic State in Washington,  Mr. Abadi said "Iraq has achieved great victories since the alliance previous meeting."

"These victories were achieved by our cooperation and our brave fighting against ISIS terrorists which extended from south of Baghdad to the west, to the north, and our forces are now fighting bravely and heroically in the city of Mosul," he added. 

He confirmed that all components of the Iraqi spectrum are united in the war against ISIS. 

The organization failed to divide Iraqi citizens, Mr. Abadi said, indicating his government's national reconciliation efforts and steps taken to help the displaced people return.

He also confirmed  services are returning gradually to liberated areas, despite financial and economic pressure.

He called for the reunification of regional efforts to thwart  regional conflicts that "led to the emergence of ISIS and other terror groups."

For his part, US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, said "The United States will increase its pressure on the al- Qaeda and ISIS organizations  and will work to establish temporary safe areas, through a cease-fire, to allow the displaced to return homes," according to Anadolu news agency.

The meeting of the member states of the international coalition against ISIS, the first since U.S. Donald Trump's inauguration on Feb. 20, is due to last for two days.   

Foreign Ministers of the 68 countries discuss ways to intensify military efforts to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria, as well as the reconstruction work of Iraqi and Syrian areas devastated by the war.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Wednesday held talks in Washington with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, The Baghdad Post reported.

During the meeting held on the sidelines of a conference for the foreign ministers of the international coalition against ISIS, Ms. Mogherini hailed the advances made by the Iraqi forces to liberate the Iraqi territories from the terror organization. 


She stressed the EU willingness to support Iraq in the field of dismantling mines, police training and restoring stability.

She highlighted plans to send an EU team to determine the priorities of the Iraqi government to accelerate support.

An Iraqi high-level delegation topped by Mr.
Abadi arrived in Washington on Monday on a state visit at an invitation from US President Donald Trump.

Abadi's talks in Washington have covered joint efforts in the war on terrorism, cooperation at the security and military levels as well as means of boosting bilateral ties.

Iraqi PM sees $50 billion in post-war reconstruction: US senator

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi believes reconstruction of Anbar province as well as Mosul, in Nineveh province, will cost about $50 billion, Reuters quoted Senator Lindsey Graham as saying on Wednesday, recounting a Tuesday conversation with the Iraqi leader.

"I heard from the Iraqi prime minister yesterday -- to reconstruct Anbar province and now Mosul, is about $50 billion," Graham said at a Senate hearing, addressing Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Marine General Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Abadi arrived in Washington on Monday on a visit that comes at an official invitation from US President Donald Trump.

Abadi's talks in Washington will cover joint efforts as part of the war on terrorism, cooperation at the security and military levels as well as means of enhancing the two countries' relations.

U.S. earmarks $2 bln for Iraq, Syria newly-liberated areas

US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, announced on Wednesday the Trump Administartion had earmarked two billion dollars for liberated areas in Iraq and Syria, The Baghdad Post reported.

Addressing a conference of foreign ministers of the international coalition against ISIS, Mr. Tillerson said, "We will help Iraq and Syria eliminate ISIS terrorists, and our goal is to eradicate it using military force".

The US Secretary of State called on the international community to contribute to the reconstruction work of Iraqi cities liberated from ISIS.

Since February 19, the international coalition forces, along with the Iraqi army, have launched an offensive to liberate Iraqi territories captured by the terrorist organization

Important part of the discussions was the increased number of civilian deaths, however all nations part of the coalition remain determined in their main goal, to liberate IS's remaining strongholds in both Syria and Iraq. 

Tillerson stressed out that nearly all of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's deputies have been killed, including the mastermind behind the attacks in Brussels, Paris and elsewhere, and it will not be long until the coalition forces manage to find his exact location and eliminate him.

"The great commonality among we who have gathered today is a commitment to bringing down a global force of evil and I emphasize the word commitment," Tillerson said, according to Digital Journal. 

Among the government officials of the 68 countries was the Prime Minister of Iraq, Haider al-Abadi, who said that the Iraqi people have proven that IS can be killed and pushed away, and that the coalition should not lose focus on their main goal. 

Abadi launched in October last year the operation for liberating the northern Iraqi city Mosul, which has been under IS-control since 2014. In the beginning of this year, the Iraqi forces managed to fully liberate entire eastern part of the city and allow hundreds of thousands of displaced people to return to their homes. In February, the Iraqi PM launched the next phase of the operation, aiming to liberate the remaining western parts of the city from the IS militants.
