ERBIL — A Kurdish Peshmerga Commander has revealed that the situation inside Mosul is not in favour of the Islamic State (IS) and the group’s military capacity has significantly decreased.

Peshmerga Commander from Makhmour-Gwer frontline, Jamal Mortka, told BasNews that IS is remaining a threat to the region despite losing their previous military power as they attempt to sneak into the areas outside their control and carry out attacks.

He explained that after being defeated in the western province of Anbar, the jihadist group is not any longer capable of conducting effective operations. “However, the group carries out some military activities only to show off its presence on the battlefield.”

“The anticipated operation to liberate Mosul won't take as long as it did to liberate Anbar if the Iraqi troops support Peshmerga and agree with the conditions,” Mortka added.

According to the Peshmerga commander, IS is currently making preparations to attack Peshmerga forces, but the attacks are, however, of insignificant effects.

"The Jihadists are unable to sneak into the cities and Peshmerga bases despite their frequent attempts before carrying out their attacks" Murtka added. IS leaders are reportedly fleeing Mosul to Syria and some of their leaders suggest IS to move to Libya.

I like it. I am waiting to see Mosul liberated from IS. My opinion is that getting Mosul back into Iraq control will happen before an HCL. I'm also liking the National Oil Company talk. Maybe this year, maybe next year, eventually something will give with the way the IQD is viewed and valued.
