k98nights
ISIS Shows Off U.S.-Made Humvees In New "Armored Brigade" The images of ISIS controlling U.S.-supplied military hardware come as the U.S. ramps up its campaign against the militant group By Shane Dixon Kavanaugh on Nov 05, 2015 at 5:03 AM The Islamic State is responding to the U.S.’ latest moves in Syria and Iraq by flaunting a fleet of American-made Humvees and other military vehicles that it has pilfered. More than a dozen new photographs published by ISIS depict what it’s calling its “Third Armored Brigade,” which is based in Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh. The highly-choreographed images show ISIS fighters riding around the desert in Iraqi Light Armored Vehicles (ILAVs), a Humvee built in the U.S. and sold exclusively—at around $350,000 a pop—to the Iraqi military beginning in 2006. Militants are also seen operating several Soviet tanks and training with AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades, said Caleb Weiss of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington-based think tank. Though ISIS likely seized the tanks and armored vehicles when it captured Mosul last year, the move to flaunt them publicly now appears strategically timed. The White House announced last week that it would deploy dozens of American commandos to northeastern Syria and pledged $100 million in fresh aid for anti-ISIS fighters. The U.S. has also recently boosted the number of airstrikes it conducts against Islamic State targets in Iraq and supplied additional ammunition to Syrian rebel groups. More ISIS’ Bulging Cash Cow: Shakedowns, Not Oil And Artifacts In response, ISIS militants are sending a defiant message, one that suggests that they are as strong and resilient as ever, said Patrick Skinner, a counter-terrorism expert with the Soufan Group. “They’re basically saying, ‘Drop all the equipment you want. We need more,'” Skinner said. A U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesman told Vocativ that he could not confirm the authenticity of the images. However, he said that CENTCOM was aware that some former U.S. military equipment, namely Humvees, had fallen into ISIS hands. “ISIL uses numerous methods of propaganda in their quest to project terror within Iraq and Syria,” the spokesman said, using another acronym for the Islamic State. “Regardless of what ISIL tries to portray, the reality is ISIL has lost the ability to operate freely in 20-25 percent of the populated territory it held one year ago.” http://www.vocativ.com/news/247000/isis-shows-off-its-fleet-of-stolen-american-armored-vehicles/? sxsess
At $350K a pop one would hope there is an impossible to find or jam secret channel GPS for just such contingencies. That would make too much sense for this country. Everything is ass backwards

divemaster5734
At $350K a pop one would hope there is an impossible to find or jam secret channel GPS for just such contingencies. I can't believe they don't, and have often wondered why nothing has been done. I think now all cars sold in America have a "kill" switch that can be activated by the lender in case the buyer defaults and refuses to return the property. We have had systems available to the consumer since 1994. The military only allows technology that is at least 10 years behind their own to be licensed for consumers, or equipment that is less than half as accurate. Military vehicles don't have a key or ignition switch like we do. It's just a push-button switch for the starter, then some toggles to energize various systems. The only keys required are to arm the various weapons. We have spent billions of dollars and millions of hours designing the most advanced mobile electronics systems in the world, by some of the best engineers alive. There is absolutely no possible way not one of those best of the best geniuses didn't think to, or "forgot", to provide a kill command for the computer controlled diesel injection and vehicle controls. Anyone, anywhere, can just open the door, hit the clutch, and push a button to start almost every single military jeep, 1/2 track, or light vehicle. The computer systems that operate the Humvee's are among the most advanced ever, and can not be removed or the engine will not run, unless you are a brilliant mechanic, and can bypass 50 sensors, fool a dozen relays, and trick the computers to operate the injector pump in perfect synchronization with the cam, crank, and turbo, just to name a few. Every trucking company in America has real time tracking, states have been tracking their cars for years. I think Louisiana even has the kill switch as well. In 1999 they started installing gps units, in 2004 they started armoring, and there has been a standardized system called Blue Force in place since 2010 that tracks and disables on command for military. I realize there are going to be some issues, just the number of trucks, over 5000, that were seized by ISL, means at least 500 have a broken gps, maybe another 500 have a bad relay, but that is only 20% total. Why the rest have been allowed to operate for the invaders is something every single reporter has failed to address, and makes a person wonder what is really going on...DM
