BREAKING NEWS Sistani's Office announces that Thursday is last day of Ramadan 07/08/2013 21:48:00

Najaf (NINA) – Sistani's Astronomical Research Center announced that (today) Thursday is the last day of the Month of Ramadan and that Friday, Aug. 8, will be the First Day of Shawal 1434 making it the First day of Fitr Eid. / End.

It went on saying that this is because since it is not possible to see the crescent with mere eye, and it is possible to see it on Thursday evening in South America and parts of south Africa. / End.

Eid actually started today (Thursday) in the Middle East. Restaurants were open during daylight hours indicating the end of Ramadan.
