Just to clarify a point ... the IQD isn't going to be "pegged" to anything! Pegged is the idea that as one currency slides or climbs ... the other is obligated to do the same/is dragged along ... see my point? So in your example ... pegged to the GBP would mean that if the GBP dived the IQD would as well ... I know ... certainly not in this case. A rate being "quoted" vs. another currency ... maybe ... the Reserve Currency on the planet is USD (at least for now) so quoting vs USD would be the norm ... but it could be quoted in Indonesian Rupia if someone wanted to. This article made me chuckle ... they've procrastinated on the RI/RV and the planned power plants either weren't finished or weren't built because of it and their citizens are up in arms and protesting about the heat and no electric or rolling blackouts to run the essentials. A year or so ago an article was posted about the actual cost of a barrel of oil to Iraq ... I've forgotten the exact numbers but I think that I am close and you'll get the point ... first of all, oil is so close to the surface that it takes very little effort to bring the sweetest crude on the planet to the surface ... it is then transported 600 miles via pipeline to Basra and pumped onto a ship. Total cost $1.55! Yep ... I know, but wait, it gets worse ... of that $1.55 ... $.90 of that are taxes! (pass-through the province taxes apparently) which means that a barrel of oil ACTUALLY cost $.65! ... yes, I understand that it has to be refined into gasoline ... but still only a few dollars of ACTUAL cost per barrel ... and a barrel of oil produces 26 gallons of gasoline and 9 gallons of diesel plus 7 more gallons of various petrochemical compounds. To recap ... oil/gas that cost next to nothing ... no electric or rolling blackouts ... private and govt. generators ... hmmmmmmmm ... what would have taken them this long to come up with this plan/solution ... remember that they let their people slog it out through an entire summer last year ... Okay, so it wasn't the MoD. Here is the remainder of the post I will also tell you that other contractors (American) doing business in Iraq have been paid in the new rate. I can not share details at this time. So before we go into Ray's information, let's reflect back to what we now know. The banks are now talking about the strategy of helping their customers with the new IQD. Contractors have been paid at the new rate. 13303 has been given to protect their assets. 50% of the budget has been released. <-- this is huge Now I have to admit publicly that I was wrong. A couple months ago I stated I had a drop dead date of May 10th. I said this, I stated this and I now can admit I was wrong or incorrect regarding this time line. Now that this date has passed, I will explain my statement. The 2011 budget was built around a rate (the revaluation) that you are all looking for. Our team felt that once it was published officially it would be set in stone. So guess what, they released part of it and not officially published it in the Gazette. I just talked to another guy today that I know who just got back from Basra yesterday. He said his family and friends and everyone he talked to there are saying the same thing. They know it is going to revalue but are not sure when. They have been told soon. This guy brought back 250,000 dinar to cash in when it happens. He is also one that has been very skeptical about the revalue too. Now he is a believer also. My main contact is still in India. He won’t be back for another week or so. Last November it began to creep up by one from 1185 for a week or so ending up at 1195 for a week in December and then settling back to 1192 where it has been since December. Keep an eye on it though ... we were told the separation in the spread was to allow vendors to make a better profit ... I haven't seen an explanation this time but in fact what the previous increase did do was allow the CBI and the local banks to exact a fee/tax for themselves via a "pass-thru". The current increase is only 6 tenths of a cent (.00598). Indicative rates are ALL back up Oil, Gold, Silver holding CBI Currency auction is higher than previous 2 days ... still low but NOT exceptionally low ... the previous 2 days totals haven't been seen since Dec 2007 ... you only have to go back to Jan 25th of this year to find a comparable total for today's amount. Simply said the total is triple the previous two days. The cash portion is double yesterday's ... participating banks double the prior two days (it seems like there were 22 banks but 2 were added ... don't recall presently ... really don't care ... let's just say somewhere from 1/3 to less than 1/2 participated) ... it's just too close to call boys and girls! It is quite obvious that it is past time ... it is necessary ... it "IS" a whole bunch of things.
