Mother of nine-year-old Iraqi suicide bomber arrested

Iraqi security forces have arrested a woman whose boyfriend convinced her to send her little boy on a suicide mission and then failed to stop the attack after she had a change of heart, police said.

Sunni widow Suad al-Obaidi, 47, was arrested on Friday along with her allegedly al-Qaeda boyfriend, after attacks on anti-Qaeda Sahwa (Awakening) militia in Diyala province a day earlier, a Diyala police officer told AFP.

She was arrested in Diyala province, while the boyfriend, Hamid Alwan, 53, was detained in Baghdad.

According to the officer, Alwan convinced Obaidi to send nine-year-old Murtada Latif Kadhem to bomb a Shiite mosque in Khales, north of Baghdad, several years ago.

Alwan “took her son with her ... by car to the Shiite mosque but, on the way there, she started to cry about her son,” the officer said.

“He put her out of the car, and took the son, who was wearing an explosive belt, to the mosque,” where “he blew himself up.”

Security officials said the December 29, 2006 attack killed at least nine people, including the imam of the mosque, and wounded at least eight.

A few months later, Alwan tried to convince Suad to send her 18-year-old son Kadhem Latif Kadhem on a suicide attack, but he fled to the home of his married sister, Hanna.

“After the attacks against the Sahwa (Awakening) last Thursday, we received information about terrorists groups and wanted people in some areas in Diyala,” said the officer.

“We arrested a group of terrorists and through the investigation we reached Hamid and arrested him in Baghdad Friday.”

On Thursday, a suicide bomber and a car bomb targeted Sahwa militiamen near Baquba, north of Baghdad, killing five people and wounding 26, an army officer and a doctor said.

I can't imagine the disconnect required to send one's own child to perform such a task.

That's what we should be praying for, that God protect the children of Iraq.

They are the truly innocent victim's of their parents misguided tenet.

The words horrendous, unconscionable, and evil seem to fall short in describing what she did.

If this doesn't prove they worship a false doctrine, nothing ever will.

Lord Jesus, please, protect those children.

Please, send a prayer up if you are reading this.

I don't know how many are doing this, but if you have a smart phone with an alarm feature, make an alarm for 6pm, every day.

It doesn't matter what time zone you are in.

When the alarm sounds, stop what you are doing and join spiritual hands with your brothers and sisters across your time zone in praying for our nation and our world.

At the top of every hour, somewhere in the world, there are Christians that do this.

It is one of the most powerful tools we have.

It's about time Iraq officials began follow-up investigations; they can start with the murders of NATO forces and civilian contractors their to stabilize their government.

Yes, this is sad but true. It is culture to some because they are born in camps. If you had a chance to read the article the other day here how the extremist said the womb of their women is their weapon. But if they are not killing infidel Americans, then why and what are their motives for bombing the mosque???

These people have been slaughtering each other (let alone the so-called "infidel") for literally THOUSANDS of years, even before the advent of Islam they were murderers. God Himself could preach in their mosques and they would still burn with an insane irrational blood lust.

This is heartbreaking. Nine years old. It sickens me to think that anyone would do this to a child, especially his own mother.
