Coronavirus fears HALT trial in Rome for two American students accused of fatally stabbing an Italian policeman - as death toll in the country climbs to 366

  • Finnegan Lee Elder and Gabriel Natale-Hjorth are charged with killing Italian officer Mario Cerciello Rega, 35, who was stabbed to death 11 times in Rome
  • The trial started last month for the July killing of the unarmed police officer
  • A judge halted the trial in Rome for five weeks on Monday so the two American students would not risk exposure to the deadly coronavirus
  • The virus has devastated Italy – killing 366, infecting more than 7,500 and causing 16 million to be quarantined
  • During the brief hearing, the judge urged the legal teams to sit one meter apart and not shake hands and kiss, contrary to Italian tradition
  • Both men are also charged with attempted extortion, resisting arrest and injuring Rega's partner, and could face life sentences if convicted
  • Judge Finiti adjourned the hearing until April 17 when the trial will resume

Just watched the movie here on an Italian channel and so I remembered the sad story...I was 14 when it happened...All the papers and TV news were talking about it every single day......

Kidnappers were members of 'Ndrangheta, the powerful Calabria region mafia, the strongest in Italy and in Europe...Unfortunately

I guess I don't understand the allure of drugs. I tried my share but never interested enough to get hooked. The money the Gettys had and still turned to drugs.  Most of us today would find more constructive things to do with the money. Guess I'm glad I'm not privileged enough if it leads to those problems.

From the movie reconstruction it'd appear like  the kidnapped guy grew up with not much love ( if at all) so consequently his disorientation, confusion and desire to "experiment" let's say...

The old Getty ...Well....A "peculiar" in the least Individual.....

Again....Surely money and wealth are great things ...But it's been clear over and over again they do not buy happiness
