Agreed it's a violent city  with its toll of more or less 6,000 killed every year ( that's 500 a month)...Italy for instance has an average of 400/450 murders a year for the whole country....

 

Still RJ is a beautiful city and if you're slick and smart enough ( and also lucky of course) you'll be just fine...You best bet would be having a local to get around with ( obviously)

So sorry about that....Visited Bangkok and other parts of Thailand in 1990....One of the very few trips I regretted taking....Didn't like it at all for various reasons.....
