dontlop
Did ya ever get a pay cut and figure this is good? Iraq got a huge pay cut with low oil prices Now is this good because they will just raise the value of their local currency to compensate If there were only 10 thousand dinars in iraq and you were dependent on supply and demand of these dinar they could float the exchange rate and let the market determin the rate But if ya had 80 trillion of them and were depending on supply and demand why would the value increase ? Its a tough question to answer honestly Did any one ever find any evidence of iraq reducing the supply of dinar to any significant degree that would justify a large increase in value or a huge Influx of Capitol to raise the value of the 80 trillion dinar? We do know that the national income from abroad has recently declined how ever it may be temporary Even though it may be temporary , what would be the reason for an increase in value of their currency right now If I were short on assets I don't think I can simply claim I'm worth more because I'm short This is what the imf auditing board is responsible to report to its members ,,,, the truth about every other member of the imf What imf article is iraq currenctly operating under ? Is it still article XIV ? To get international recognition wouldn't they have to agree to the regulations under imf article 8? So where are they right now ? Does anyone ever think about the " many" factors involved and how it's necessary to have everything in order ? And if they do think about it do they look to see if everything is in order And if you ask them why do they get mad and try to personally attack you? Don't tell us the truth syndrome is very unhealthy I don't want to know the truth syndrome is really some kind of mental disorder Now Where do you stand ? Want the truth ? Don't want the truth ? Pretend you want the truth but really don't ?
rockfl9
VERY DEEP thoughts DL The truth is there is closer to 90T dinar in M2 now ! The MOF is Going to have a hard sell of the proposed corrections. New taxes , salary cuts ,cancellation of some projects. Some will take new laws which take time to enact. Estimates are that oil will be below $60 for most of 2015. A quick fix would be for the CBI to up the auction rate to 1220, then if the new income doesn't cut the deficit up it again! More dinar for the dollar. Make it more expensive to convert to dollars. That's the truth!
dontlop
The cbi guarentees the exchange rate at 1166 To up it to 1220 woukd be a devaluation and the market rate woukd be at 1275 They should of been printing more dinar all along or increasing the exchange rate on what they had They chose to steal the money instead Now they are in a bind They should pass legislation to guarentee the dinar valuation increase every year like they did with their debt to kuwait Like say 5% of all oil revenues to go to back the local currency then they woukd get some real investors involved That would be classified as a crawling peg like they did from 2006 thru 2009 Once they reach their desired exchange rate then they can stablize it But they chose to stablize it with 80 trillion dinar valued at 1166
rockfl9
The CBI SETS the exchange rate, It is not guaranteed. The purpose of the auctions is to fund the government. IF the CBI/MOF determined that a change it the rate was in the best interest of Iraq it should do so. Increasing the rate will put more dinar in the hands of the MOF spreading the deficit across the entire economy . Sure imports would cost more just as a tax would , but the effect is immediate. To ease the shock to the economy could start with a 2% bump and measure the effect. Our Fed does the same thing with interest rates. The market rate would go up too, but that would make dollars harder to get which is a good thing.
dontlop
The central bank does what their superiors tell them to do It's not a seperate entity The central govt of Iraq owns 100% of the stock in the central bank of iraq On January 25, 2011, the Supreme Court of Iraq ruled that the Central Bank of Iraq should be under supervision of the Council of Ministers of Iraq. The 2004 cbi law is amended in 2011 It's all the govts money all of it Council of ministers Supervises them Iraqi council of ministers http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_of_Ministers_%28Iraq%29

rockfl9
DL :: You made my point. While not involved with daily actions the MOF influences the overall policy of the CBI.. The CBI would not FLOAT the dinar without agreement of the MOF/COM.. That would be a major economic change. A big movement in the rate would also need approval. So the governor cannot just "push a button" as the RVers would like to think.
dontlop
Unless the goi told them to , not without them agreeing to it The cbi only articulates the policies the central govt tells them to The cbi doesn't change policies the central govt does

dontlop
Sunday the oil ministry and the ministery of finance will be chiming in on the budget and the ministry of education isn't happy The kurds in at least one article said they want to install implement article 140 into the budget I'm not sure how many other things I've heard but it's definatly not settled yet They are just now setting up a committee to draw up a " draft hcl law " It's still unfolding but I'm sure everyone is anxious to get money flowing into their region especially the kurds so it might go quickly Instead of the Kurds blocking stalling and boycotting this year they may be the ones urging they pass the budget
