Is that what US MSM is reporting??? That is fast!!!

I'm watching RT news and they are just confirming that it happened.... and NOT spinning it in ANY direction.

That is amazing!!! Now where do you think your news source is getting their info for their "reports"?

They are saying on RT that it can not be determined yet whether it had been shot down or had crashed.

They are saying IF it was shot down it would have been the Ukrainian military as they are the only ones in that area that have that kind of weaponry... and that their military is currently being run by new and not very well trained crews.... and that the separatist don't have that kind of equipment to shoot down an airliner at that altitude.

I dunno... interesting how the reporting (spinning) has started right out of the gate.

They are talking right now with the witnesses of the crash... "smoking dead bodies everywhere".

Tragedy no matter what happened... God Bless the passengers and crew.... So very sad.

Malaysian Airlines MH17 passenger plane carrying 295 people 'shot down with ground-to-air missile' at 33,000ft over Ukraine near to Russian border

By Darren Boyle

Published: 10:28 EST, 17 July 2014 | Updated: 12:01 EST, 17 July 2014

A Malaysian Airlines passenger plane has been shot down on the Russian-Ukraine border, killing all 295 people on board, according to a Ukrainian interior ministry official.

Flight MH17, which was carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew, was flying between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur after taking off at lunchtime today.

The Interfax news agency reported that the aircraft went missing near Donetsk, where pro-Russian rebels have been fighting Ukrainian government forces.

TV pictures from the scene showed a pall of smoke billowing into the sky apparently from the stricken aircraft.

Witnesses say body parts are scattered over a distance of 15km, suggesting the plane broke up in mid-air.

It is believed the plane was struck by BUK surface-to-air missile at 33,000ft around 20 miles before entering Russian airspace.

The missile system is an old Soviet-built weapon designed to engage light aircraft, cruise missiles and drones.

Defence experts have expressed fears in the past they could be used to target at civil aircraft.

A similar launcher was seen by Associated Press journalists near the eastern Ukrainian town of Snizhne earlier today.

Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation told U.S. President Barack Obama that a Malaysian airplane crashed on Ukrainian territory, the Kremlin said.

The two leaders held a pre-planned call on the situation in Ukraine during which information became available from air traffic controllers about the crash.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said his country's armed forces didn't shoot at any airborne targets.

'We do not exclude that this plane was shot down, and we stress that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not take action against any airborne targets,' he said.

'We are sure that those who are guilty in this tragedy will be held responsible.'

Earlier, defence analyst Major Charles Heyman, who edited a book called Armed Forces of the European Union, believes it could have been downed by a 'slack' Ukraine air defence centre.

He told Sky News: 'It looks like confusion. It’s possible that Ukraine thought it was hostile and not civilian and shot it down.'

Path to disaster: A graphic showing the flight path of Malaysia Airlines MH17 after taking off from Amsterdam at lunchtime en route to Kuala Lumpur

Malaysian Airlines said they have no information about any survivors.

In a tweet, the airline said: 'Malaysia Airlines has lost contact of MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace. More details to follow.'

A Boeing spokesman said: ‘Our thoughts and prayers are with those on board the Malaysia Airlines airplane lost over Ukrainian airspace, as well as their families and loved ones.

'Boeing stands ready to provide whatever assistance is requested by authorities.'

The jet would have been flying at high altitude on an intercontinental flight that took it over the crisis hit region of Ukraine, where the authorities have accused Russia-backed separatists of previous attacks on aircraft.

U.S. President Barack Obama has been briefed on the ongoing investigation.

Earlier today the Ukrainian authorities said one of their fighter jets was shot down by an air-to-air missile from a Russian plane and Ukrainian troops were fired upon by missiles from a village inside Russia.

The alleged episodes mark what Ukraine says is mounting evidence that Moscow is directly supporting separatist insurgents in eastern Ukraine who have substantial quantities of powerful weapons.

Malaysian airliner downed in Ukraine war zone, 295 dead

Reuters: Maxim Zmeyev
Emergencies Ministry members work at the site of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 plane crash in the settlement of Grabovo in the Donetsk region, July 17, 2014. The Malaysian airliner was shot down over eastern Ukraine by pro-Russian militants on Thursday, killing all 295 people aboard, a Ukrainian interior ministry official said.

GRABOVO, Ukraine, July 17 (Reuters) - A Malaysian airliner was brought down over eastern Ukraine on Thursday, killing all 295 people aboard and sharply raising stakes in a conflict between Kiev and pro-Moscow rebels in which Russia and the West back opposing sides.

Ukraine accused "terrorists" - militants fighting to unite eastern Ukraine with Russia - of shooting down the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 with a heavy, Soviet-era ground-to-air missile as it flew from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

Leaders of rebels in the Donetsk People's Republic denied any involvement, although around the same time their military commander said his forces had downed a much smaller Ukrainian transport plane - their third such kill this week.

Reuters journalists saw burning and charred wreckage bearing the red and blue Malaysia insignia and dozens of bodies strewn in fields near the village of Grabovo, 40 km (25 miles) from the Russian border near the rebel-held regional capital of Donetsk.

The scale of the disaster affecting scores of foreigners could prove a turning point for international pressure to resolve a crisis that has claimed hundreds of lives in Ukraine since pro-Western protests toppled the Moscow-backed president in Kiev in February and Russia annexed Crimea a month later.

As word came in of what Ukraine's Western-backed president called a "terrorist attack", the Russian and U.S. leaders, Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama, were discussing a new round of economic sanctions that Washington and its EU partners imposed on Moscow on Wednesday to try to force Putin to do more to curb the revolt against the Western-backed government in Kiev.

They noted the early reports during their telephone call, the White House said, adding that Obama warned of further sanctions if Moscow did not change course in Ukraine.

WRECKAGE, BODIES

Malaysia Airlines said air traffic controllers lost contact with flight MH-17 at 1415 GMT as it flew over eastern Ukraine towards the Russian border, bound for Asia with 280 passengers and 15 crew aboard. Flight tracking data indicated it was at its cruising altitude of 33,000 feet when it disappeared.

"I was working in the field on my tractor when I heard the sound of a plane and then a bang," one local man at Grabovo told Reuters. "Then I saw the plane hit the ground and break in two. There was thick black smoke."

An emergency worker said at least 100 bodies had been found so far and that debris was spread over 15 km (9 miles). Workers were scouring the area for the black box flight recorders.

"MH-17 is not an incident or catastrophe, it is a terrorist attack," Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko tweeted. He has stepped up his military campaign against the rebels since a ceasefire late last month failed to produce any negotiations.

Russia, which Western powers accuse of trying to destabilize Ukraine to maintain influence over its old Soviet empire, has accused Kiev's leaders of mounting a fascist coup. It says it is holding troops in readiness to protect Russian-speakers in the east - the same rationale it used for taking over Crimea.

Ukrainian Interior Ministry official Anton Gerashchenko said on Facebook: "Just now, over Torez, terrorists using a Buk anti-aircraft system kindly given to them by Putin have shot down a civilian airliner flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur."

"There is no limit to the cynicism of Putin and his terrorists!" he wrote on the social media site. "Europe, USA, Canada, the civilized world, open your eyes! Help us in any way you can! This is a war of good against evil!"

REBEL ACCUSATION

A rebel leader said Ukrainian forces shot the airliner down and that rebel forces did not have weaponry capable of hitting a plane flying 10 km (six miles) up. Ukrainian officials said their military was not involved in the incident.

The military commander of the rebels, a Russian named Igor Strelkov, had written on his social media page at 1337 GMT, half an hour before the last reported contact with MH-17, that his forces had brought down an Antonov An-26 in the same area. It is a turboprop transport plane of a type used by Ukraine's forces.

There was no comment on that from the Ukrainian military.

Several Ukrainian planes and helicopters have been shot down in four months of fighting in the area. Ukraine had said an An-26 was shot down on Monday and one of its Sukhoi Su-25 fighters was downed on Wednesday by an air-to-air missile - Kiev's strongest accusation yet of direct Russian involvement, since the rebels do not appear to have access to aircraft.

Moscow has denied its forces are involved in any way.

The loss of MH-17 is the second disaster for Malaysia Airlines this year, following the mysterious loss of flight MH-370. It disappeared in March with 239 passengers and crew on board on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

In 2001, Ukraine admitted its military was probably responsible for shooting down a Russian airliner that crashed into the Black Sea, killing all 78 people on board. A senior Ukrainian official said it had most likely been downed by an accidental hit from an S-200 rocket fired during exercises.

In 1983, a Soviet jet fighter shot down a South Korean airliner after it veered off course into Russian air space and failed to respond to attempts to make contact. All 269 passengers and crew were killed.

In 1988, the U.S. warship Vincennes shot down an Iranian airliner over the Gulf, killing all 290 passengers and crew, in what the United States said was an accident after crew mistook the plane for a fighter. Tehran called it a deliberate attack.

Reports coming out from RT that Putin's plane was flying in that area at that time...

RT is saying that it's too soon to confirm or say anything further about that... talk about speculations coming out fast.

They now are talking about 2001... when the Ukrainian military accidentally shot down a Russian plane during military exercises... It took years for Ukraine to admit it... even though it had been proven for a very long time.

Thank You For Keeping Us Up With The US Media Reports Wm.

First this plane was five miles up when it was shot down. The reason this was shot down as opposed to some sort of malfunction that brought the plane down is the debris field stretches for miles. Bodies have been found miles away from where the majority of the craft crashed into the ground.

Second, the missile system was introduced in the 80's with a semi-autonomous radar on board the missile. The missile system is known for being shot at smaller aircraft and should there be a larger aircraft flying in the vicinity, to switch from the smaller to the larger aircraft and take that one down. 4 of these missiles can shoot down up to 6 aircraft.

Lastly, the Ukrainian rebels have denied they even have this missile system but a week ago a journalist took pictures of this same exact system in the hands of the rebels and the rebels have also boasted about this system on twitter.

IMO, this system comes from Russia and Russia is backing the rebels if they are not outright russian soldiers without markings.

BTW how did you know what missile system was used in the shooting down of this plane at 10,000 feet?

I'd bet money that the people (CIA, Central Bankers cough, cough) had their mitts all over this one. Russia has nothing to gain by shooting the plane down. The elite are chomping at the bit to start WW3, thank God Putin ain't fallin' for it...

With so many misinformed people, they're hard to pick out, at least for me.

Misinformed yes... there are plenty of them.

It's different when they are so clearly designing their posts to lead/manipulate folks in a false direction.

They do that by sounding very articulate and educated making their statements sound like facts... when they aren't.

You can tell they have a specific agenda... we all have the ability to detect lies as soon as they hit us... if we use it. JMHO

Relatives of passengers on downed Malaysian plane berate officials

 Reuters: Olivia Harris
People, who said they believed their relatives were on Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, speak to a police officer for more information about the crashed plane at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang July 18, 2014.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Dazed and disbelieving, relatives of passengers aboard the Malaysian airliner downed in Ukraine gathered at the Kuala Lumpur airport early on Friday, demanding information about what happened and getting little response.

The Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 with 295 people on board was to have landed in Kuala Lumpur at 6:10 a.m. (11:10 p.m. BST Thursday) on a flight from Amsterdam. It went down near the Ukraine-Russia border and all aboard were killed.

"I saw the news on TV," said Akma Mohammad Noor, a woman whose sister, Rahimah, was travelling on the flight. "She was supposed to travel with her son but he did not want to go."

Like many Malaysian Muslims, Rahimah was coming to her home country for the Eid al-Fitr festival, Islam's biggest annual celebration, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, on July 28.

"We were supposed to celebrate Raya (the festival) together," Noor said, weeping. Her sister, who has lived in Geneva for three decades, was coming home for the first time in five years, she said.

Ukraine accused "terrorists" — militants fighting to unite eastern Ukraine with Russia — of shooting down the plane. The rebels denied responsibility.

The loss of flight MH-17 is the second disaster for Malaysia Airlines this year, following the mysterious loss of flight MH-370. It disappeared in March with 239 passengers and crew on board on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Other relatives in Kuala Lumpur on Friday were incensed with the airline for not giving information about who was on the flight.

One man was berating officials.

"Is MAS stupid?" he shouted, referring to the Malaysia Airlines System, the official name of the airline. "We just want to know the name list from MAS."

He said his sister, brother-in-law and a two-year-old baby were believed to be on board.

"Facebook is more efficient than MAS' media network," said another man waiting with a female relative for news.

"It's so funny. It's really a laughing stock. We need to know the list. The list. That is all."

Malaysia Airlines said earlier air traffic controllers lost contact with the flight at 1415 GMT as it flew over eastern Ukraine towards the Russian border. Flight tracking data indicated it was at its cruising altitude of 33,000 feet when it disappeared.
