i read somewhere about a year or so ago that Iraq had proven resources of minerals , like ,tin , nickel , copper and some others that they estimated to be in the trillions ,. I havent been able to find it , hopefully some one else knows or can find it

Where ever this came from, I don't think they did their arithmetic too well. Lets say Iraq manages to produce 5mbpd of oil and makes $80/barrel. Then even with those conservative figures and at todays astronomical $1700/oz of gold, that would be 2,600 tons of gold per year. Yearly global gold production in the last few years has been around 2,500 tons (the highest it ever got was about 2,800 tons in 1999). So surpassing oil for Iraq? No way.
