  1. It's been awhile since I've felt excited about news from Iraq. Too often it's on again, off again, "am I being too optimistic". I am very eager to see how the Kurds react in the following month on this. I would love to see a united push forward. Not trying to be a downer, I know there have been many encouraging articles this year despite some terrorist activities and quasi-Kurdish separation. What I see here is undeniable progress where the silver lining is not so thin. Maybe the Kurds will take them seriously with GOI shaping up immediately after elections, as it should have long ago. Anxious to hear Adam's comments. Best wishes, all. Crossfire
  2. Thanks for the post, Yota. It would be sad to think this would go the way of a conspiracy theorist. Imagine them dishing out the worn currency and then actually encouraging exchange for a more durable USD. If finding newer Dinar is so difficult, and such old Dinar so hard to use at markets...I think it would be sad to see citizens trade the majority of their dinar for USD and then suddenly...POOF...RV...now "please exchange your USD for your new and improved Dinar...at a lower rate." No, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but this did cross my mind as I was reading. Citizens have been complaining of the wear of their Dinar for some time now and still many markets prefer USD. I'm just not certain how unpopular their own currency is overall at present time compared to this time last year. G'nite all. Hope everyone has a great week. crossfire
  3. Dang...was thinking his ship had sunk with no peep from him in awhile. He must have just parked it on Gilligan's Island for a few days. Guess it is NOT safe to back in the water yet. Adam...where is my "I'm gonna shoot myself" icon?? This one just doesn't make it stop. Best wishes, everyone. crossfire
  4. Don't give your secrets away, fly. But if everyone keeps shakin the trees, he's bound to fall out of one.
  5. A couple of things I think about is just how much gold is a "significant" amount but if they're purchasing from outside of Iraq, who would be accepting the Dinar? Wouldn't this validate the currency? I mean legitimizing it on the global market has to start at some uncontestable point, doesn't it? I think that's exciting. Also, I have to think they figure the gold itself will rise in value even though it has dipped recently. That, in and of itself will offset the initial cost of Dinar as the rate now stands. At any rate, they are investing in a hard backing for their currency. We can't even say exactly what they are paying per troy ounce if purchasing in bulk, can we? I suppose you have a point but I think, as for myself, I see the expenditure as a necessity if they have a particular target they must hit for reserve amounts (outside of oil reserves and "not quite finished" other commodities). I'm betting there are a lot of DV members here that can add more. best wishes, crossfire HAHA, Sandfly, you nailed my thoughts a good bit...Silver...you so smacked the fly!
  6. HA! I'm really digging this spin zone. O'Reilly may change his catch phrase if he see this. Seriously though, much good stuff to read up on and straight to the point. Saint, glad you made it through Nadita's cyclone. Best wishes all! crossfire
  7. HAHA! Strange that I just don't feel the same without getting to read a W(T)F story from time to time. Thanks, Thugs.
  8. Prior to college...I worked hard to maintain over a decade of ZERO debt (not even a car loan). Now...I have nearly 30k (and want a new car). hellzbellz...at this point, I'd be overjoyed to wipe my slate again and call it good. Yep...a clean slate with degree in hand, life would be REALLY good.
  9. Ok...last post for the evening and with the only news article I could find about Turkey's 2005 reform on the red eye. Surely there are articles in Adam's archives, too. I'm tired, so here is the link to the last reference: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4632069 With that...I'll leave you and just drop my final thoughts on the countries that Thug's article refer to. Insomuch as a country trying to change its currency to one with fewer digits...or just trying to revalue the currency... Russia, Turkey, AND North Korea, I do not think are examples of the situation here. Only the currency reform is the example the article intends to relate to. Especially compared to these three countries, I do not think Iraq has nearly the economic liability that these examples had at the time they attempted their reforms. Also, in reading the Russian article, the reform was almost a rush job. Korea rushed also but because of counterfeit issues on the black market. As Thug just posted at the beginning of this page an article about that...I don't have the feeling that Iraq will suffer widespread counterfeiting. In all, and since the CBI has at least THESE examples to learn from and because they have been carefully working to prove reliability to other countries...I think Iraq can see a strong...much stronger value to the dinar without so many wild market fluctuations. I'm really beginning to feel more comfortable with Adam's prediction on initial lower rate to allow it to ease up with confidence from other market entities. Also, it will allow the CBI to make good use of its current reserves (foreign and domestic). ok...bed time. Thanks, as says the sandfly crossfire
  10. Ok, I did find a solid article on Bolivia's currency reform example and here is the link: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1986-08-13/business/8602280124_1_bolivia-condor-currency-reform It's a fairly short article, cut and dry but I think this is what Thug's article was speaking about for at least one of the examples it gave. This next link describes the similarity they speak of with Korea's currency reform: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/02/business/global/02korea.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 This article gave a bit juicier details about the down side of the reform so maybe something that Iraq will plan to overcome since this was such a current example from 2009. Maybe after seeing what happened in Korea, it would explain why Iraq/CBI has held off on reform until the provinces are properly braced for impact? Anyway... I'll try to find out what type of currency reform the other examples from the article underwent. Hopefully, I'll find some "still active" articles as valid as these two. Ok, found this on Russia, not a news article but ALOT of good info concerning what happens if Foreign and/or domestic reserves are not properly in order before the reform. A bit wordy but a good read. Tagging my own comment with it while I can still edit it but I'll keep looking for a valid news article. Here is the link to the PDF file/article: http://research.stlouisfed.org/publications/review/02/11/ChiodoOwyang.pdf Be back in a few...
  11. Hello, everyone. Just got in from work and started the day with Midterms at school so too beat to look it up before commenting on it...but... I noticed no one focused on this info from the article that our hometown clown provided (and Adam commented on in weekly...btw, Adam, ty). Shouldn't this give examples that show exactly what they intend to occur? explaining that the process is applied without any damage in many countries of the world during the last thirty years, including Bolivia in 1986, Russia in 1998, Turkey in 2005, North Korea in 2009. " Read more: http://dinarvets.com/forums/index.php?/topic/173839-is-the-process-will-delete-the-zeros-of-the-iraqi-currency-to-stop-rigged/#ixzz2vFTTcQF3 Anyway, all, I am very excited with seeing so much more info being officially released that is actually discussing a currency event. Wish you all well, always great to read ya! crossfire
  12. I soooooo wanted to vote squirrel jus cuz....
  13. Ok, so rumor or not...I couldn't tell you. What I do suggest is the part of your post I quoted makes no sense if the gov is not allowing trade. Unless they think the "change in administration" ...Obama being removed from office...is going to happen next year? And I must admit THAT thought makes me excited. Siiiigh, but as reality settles back in, I'm not certain you got all the info correct...or if WB is full'a bull. Makes no sense to say "not planning IQD trade until next year" if they also say the gov is not allowing it. And that is what I get from your post...that the gov is not allowing it right now. jus my opinion and ty for the post
  14. Ok, I don't care who u r...that's funny +1 to erm....which ever one of you came up with that.
  15. Dreamer, I'm definately tracking with you on the gist of it as far as the "power sharing" To me, however, I feel like it's a reflection of citizens among the various provinces and their evolving attitude towards the "central gov" AND their evolving opinion of themselves within a democracy. The tone of the article seemed pointed. After commenting that "We are the owners of the demand transfer of powers from the center to the provinces" (which I totally understood) they follow with discriptions using words like "ancient culture are the causes of obstruction". Again, it's (IMO) a very strong language saying to the effect they are no longer stuck in the past of a tribe mentality and say "we are ready to move forward while following carefully our Constitution...even if you are still stuck in the past" LOL, I paraphrase but that's the way I see the gist of it. It excites me to see citizens exercising a real understanding of the democratic process. thanks, Dreamer
  16. Me thinks thou art too sensitive to criticism when it clearly was not ment to "belabor" anything. In fact, my suggestions might actually improve the congested "news" section's recent labor pains. In fact...placing a link with a brief disclaimer would go a long way in saving me from chasing rabbits. Can you even EXPLIAN why you think all this pertains to anything in particular or is that just more...junk? This disclaimer you just posted "My goal is to post (this) law(s) pertaining to the approval of the supreme judiciary council, their funding and their application in the Iraqi law process, as there have been key articles about this, which have been released over the past few months" sounds like a blanket disclaimer and does NOTHING towards explaining what you think about the lengthy article I commented on. Did you even notice I didn't comment on the dozens of others you recently blasted out? Don't make this personal, Tbomb. I made it clear my intentions were NOT to be rude. You took a risk on feed back from forum members when you posted your own article. I think I have always been fair to forum members unless they are clearly trying to be provocative and I've certainly never tried to be rude. I do my own research...I do not wait for others to "distill" info for me. MY POINT-that you obviously missed while being too sensitive-is that slamming several posts with jargon like "Article (2) of the Code of the Fifth Amendment to the State Consultative Council Act No. 65 of 1979" does not mean you are doing anyone any favors. AGAIN, it wasn't the fact that you posted...it's that you posted several of these types in a row. I read this forums "iraq related NEWS" link thinking it's a valid way of doing my own reserch. THIS IS NOT THE RUMORS SECTION, dude. Don't post news here and then blast someone as being "distilled" to when they are actually reading up on news links. OMG, how lame. Also, again...consider my point that if you would take the time to provide a summary/personal opinion and the link (when such a lengthy read)...you will save alot of frustration from those who think your posts might be of interest. ANYONE can "copy paste" crap into our news section all day. It takes a conscientious person to consider forum readers. Yes, I do my own research...I follow my own path...my previous posts of any news prove that. I also post knowing full well that any news I deam "worthy" and how I present it will be critiqued by my fellow DV's. Leaving this dead horse in the desert crossfire
  17. So...this is saying that resisting provinces are begining to buckle and finally surrender the "elder's powers" of the tribe mentality to the rule of a national law. I'm sorry...but that sounds like progress towards a unified Iraq to me. Power is being given to the provinces...as has been long demanded...but not if it conflicts with the constitution. "by the people, for the people" hmmmm....who'd have thought we would hear THAT rally cry in Iraq?! Am I reading this wrong by thinking it's about the people of the provinces supporting the constitution...demanding their voices be heard and granted authority...and warning the "existing ministries and sag and ancient culture" that the people are not happy with the delay of progress in granting power to the people? Interesting post, Yota. If I read this Shatner Speak translation correctly...it just confirms my thoughts that the people have a better grasp of the new constitution that many seated officials do, haha. THIS can be a good thing! Crossfire
  18. What is your point and special interest with this information? Could you at least leave your own personal comment on some of these "findings" or do you just throw it out here and wait for someone else to comment for you? Not inteded to be disrespectful, but I'm really tired of seeing huge postings and after reading them...feel there is either no new info or, in many cases, information that has NOTHING to do with the position of CBI on the RV or a change in the condition of the Iraqi gov. Yes, I realize this is about a 40 year old Identity card law...other than that, I totally miss your point in all the legal speak. It's like watching someone throw as much on the wall as they can in hopes that someone out here begins to think it's artwork. Could you at least highlight crucial areas or edit the length to provide us only the points that you originally found of interest? If I think the info that you initially provide is of concern enough, I can always follow a link if you will provide one to the original source. Again, NOT bitching at you or trying to be disrespectful but I'm really growing tired of following posts that don't merit a full read. Consider this more of a very sincere request for your (and anyone else's) future posts. We ALWAYS love those that bring us new info but...please, my friend? Thanks, Crossfire
  19. Not sure which idiot neg'd you for this comment, Zig, but I got yer back. Can only hope it was "fat fingers" on a phone and non-intentional. Anyway, I have to agree with your comment somewhat. The UN will be completely aware of who is trying to instigate the unrest and I don't think this will effect the Ch6 at all. Besides, a civil war within a country does NOT automatically mean that country will be sanctioned. That just isn't the way it works. Never mind that you need to determine which sanctions it would be, economic (NOT the same as trade sanctions), Government sanctions (ex: embassy), OR possibly military...which, btw, the Iraqis/kurds DO NOT WANT U.S. or other U.N. associated troops on their newly sov soil. OK, anyway, I'm done but, YEAH, Zig...I'm certain the intel will indicate where the REAL threat is comming from. HAHA, HI ya, Carrello...clean up, INDEED. LOL OMG, fasttang...um...i'm totally embarrased. I appologize for my comment about "idiot" giving the neg to Zig. LOL You musta commented on that while I was busy typing a scathing review. I'M SUCH A BAD DV MEMBER!!!
  20. I can vouch for Markinsa. I'm sure he ment "click" not "lick". He isn't weird like that. me on the otherhand? I'm still waiting on a "smell'o vision" TV/PC screen.
  21. OH WAIT, Texas1!!! Not a false alarm!! I think I see it, too!!
  22. well...my first guess would be that there have not been any notifications sent out since you checked that box. Perhaps I should have let the mods answer you on this one, LOL. As I understand the new format for the site, notifications from topics you follow are "pick and choose" and not automatic but can be set up to let you know there has been an addition made to a topic, say...in rumors, or news. Maybe I'm not understanding exactly WHAT type of notification you were expecting? Your initial post said "updates from administration". (looks around the room for a Mod ) Maybe someone with more understanding of your need will see this and comment. Best wishes, H&F
  23. Hey, I think you can look at the very top of your browser, next to where your name's "drop down menu" displays at the top right with the sign in/out. There should be a slightly greyed out icon to the left of your name that allows you to access "notifications". The icon looks like a lego person, haha, for lack of a better description. Just hover your cursor over the icon and it should give you a pop up description of it confirming it's the notifications section. Click it The setting I think you want should be the very FIRST option listed on that page. Hope that helps and that I have not confused you.
  24. HAHA! Sgt, you are def in the top ten peeps I want to meet when all of this is over.
