  1. In short, express all you want. You just can't express when that expression hurts others. Pretty simple. It's called FREEDOM Read more: http://dinarvets.com/forums/index.php?/topic/176652-teacher-fired-for-not-reading-stories-to-children/#ixzz2zkDR27iz That sounds all fine and good...however, what about when a person infringes on my Christian beliefs? When that person who is not a hetrosexual starts telling me how I should believe that their lifestyle is correct and that I need to accept it. Does that expression hurt me? Yes, it does, and it bothers me when my child goes to school and they have a day of silence that is for alternative sexual lifestyles and their inability to speak up. But if my daughter takes her Bible to school she is not allowed to read it on the school grounds because it may offend someone? She is not making the entire school participate in the reading of her Bible she would just like to be able to read while in study hall or at any other quiet time she may have. I am all for religious or non religious beliefs. I am for people living their lives as they want as long as it doesn't trample on my rights and my beliefs. I am not one who tries to change what someone believes or what their actions may be unless they start to overlap into my life. Then I may either remove myself from that person or advise that person that although I love them I do not agree with them and I do not want to hear them "express that expression". So if that is hurtful to the other person, does that mean I do not have the right to ask them to leave my circle or to not talk about something while in my circle?
  2. I had seen on another posting of this story that the rancher in question stated he had receipts for the lease on this land. However, I would think if he has receipts showing it has been paid, this would have been resolved before the round up began. The rancher also states his family has been using this land since the 1800's but he fails to realize that just because you use something for generations does not make it yours. Land and water rights are a huge hot topic out west and it takes very little to set people off ( both private citizens and government officials) And with the government doing all sorts of illegal things....this just gets shoved into the spotlight by a ranching family who feels they are in the right. But again, if they have the receipts for the lease...they would be in the right. If they can't produce the receipts, then the goverment is well within their rights to round up and sell the cattle to settle the debt owed by the rancher using the land to graze his cattle. Sounds like a government vs American story....but it really is a land owner vs a tenant. If you had property and someone failed to pay rent, you would evict that tenant. I used to board horses. If I had someone who failed to pay board and I followed all the legal channels, I had the right to sell that horse to pay for past board. But if the rancher has receipts and the government is denying them...then the rancher has every right to be angry and put up a fight. Of course, I would want to see all the paperwork before I decide where I stand. I try not to follow someone just because they happen to be against something I am against.
  3. She was pretty slow...very slow reaction time. The shoe was long past her before she even moved. When Bush had the shoes thrown at him they would have hit him if he didn't dodge them so quickly. Bush definitely won the shoe dodging
  4. This made me hug my 9 yr old daughter even tighter today. I cannot imagine any sort of law that makes it okay to take away a childs innocence. Makes me sick.
  5. Thanks for the articles My daughter just asked me this morning if I would like a 365 day vacation!! Told her I would probably get bored after the first 15 days...but sure would like to see.
  6. Next few days....that is better than soon. But in Iraq that phrase may not mean the same as it does to the rest of the world.
  7. LOL That's how my dog looks most of the winter....it appears they caught him in mid roll. My dog rolls and rolls and rolls in snow...even the tiniest little patch.
  8. Love Quirky.com. They have some interesting things there. Need to go to my other computer with Chrome so I can vote for you.
  9. My son is at Ft Hood. Very scary. He just got back from Afghanistan so actually started his leave today. Thankfully him and his wife live off base.
  10. This has been around for quite awhile. My brother who is a Canadian citizen was married in 1999. At his wedding reception some nice Canadian citizen stood up and started going through a list very much like this, but names have changed, bashing American's. They knew that my husband and I were American Citizens and that my husband is military. What a great reception that was! So the disdain for American's has been around for quite some time....there hasn't been anything in the past years that has made it any better. I do have a friend whose daughter is divorced, with a young son. She is trying to finish school but has to keep putting it on the back burner while she supports herself and her child. No child support has been collected as the father finds ways to hide himself and his income. She is working 40 hours a week making $12.50 an hour. With child care, rent and utilities she has nothing left at the end of the month. She does not qualify for any sort of government help. Before finding this job she was receiving some rental assistance and some food stamps. As soon as she increased her hourly wage the assistance stopped. She is now working more hours and not getting any further ahead. If she was a lazy person she would said "forget it" and stay home and collect welfare since it would mean more time with her son and not having to go out in the freezing cold. She is trying to better herself but I can see how she can get frustrated and give up. The system is seriously flawed.
  11. Why would she even be arrested. They let her in the school idiots. My husband went to our local HS last week and since he does not ever go by himself...he entered from a door that was not the main entrance. He walked down to the office and was read the riot act. HOW did you get in here and WHY did you not come in from the front entrance. He asked "WHY was the side door unlocked during school hours?" The police have an office in the school and he was questioned, but he was adamant that he was not at fault since the door was not locked. An open door invites people in. Would have loved to see them try to take it any further.
  12. ME :) My grandmother lived until she was 92 and my other grandmother was 103. Both were in wonderful health and had great minds all the way through their 80's. My grandmother who died at 92 took a fall and never recovered. My 103 grandmother lived in her own home and cooked on a wood burning cookstove until she was in her mid nineties....very independent. She left us peacefully in her sleep one night. I lost my father when he was 71 due to a tree trimming accident but he was in excellent health also. My mother is still living well at 75 and walks everywhere she wants to go. Hardly ever drives a car unless it is really cold out (she lives in Canada...it gets cold )
  13. I certainly hope that ACA is repealed or modified before we have to start looking for insurance out of pocket. Right now we get a family insurance plan through TriCare for $204 a month. My hubby is a 30 year Army Reservist and has been talking about "retiring" in the next couple of years. I cannot imagine having to pay that much more in premiums....there is no way our family budget could maintain it. And we cannot change our type of plan since we have a couple of girls who will not be out of school for another 8 years.
  14. This is a heartening article. Good to see their infrastructure getting built back up. Moving ahead.
  15. This relates to the "right to refuse service" within the private business sector. I think she should sue him for discrimination. Isn't that what the private business' were hit with when they refused to bake a cake or provide flowers? Of course the baker and the florist made the mistake of stating it was against their religious beliefs. Sometimes you just need to say "I refuse to provide the service to you" and leave it at that. If they persist, then tell them, it's within my rights as a private business owner to refuse service to whomever I would like. Now I say she has a legal leg to stand on since he stated he refused to cut her hair based on her personal belief of *** marriage. That is discrimination....at least according to the LBGT ( I always get those letters in the wrong order ). It's one of those things that must be learned....the less said the better.
  16. Botzwana....great post. Didn't want to quote it as it is long but I 100% agree.
  17. If the rest of Iraq was as together as the Kurdistan region, we would have all have exchanged our Dinar by now.
  18. Amazing how 2 sides can be so uninformed that one says an agreement has been reached and the other says no agreement has been reached. You would think that they would both know what was happening at their meeting I don't think this is the same as viewing an accident and getting different accounts from eye witnesses....it's a meeting for heavens sake....they both have to participate and agree or disagree.
  19. No banks on Monday....it's Presidents day...guess we will need to go Tues They call it every weekend...until I see CBI change it I won't get to excited...well maybe when I get Adams' text
  20. Sad news. Grew up watching the show. Was sort of like my family....made due with very little but worked hard and enjoyed each other.
  21. Not the Kurds oil...correct. However, the rest of the government is so corrupt and indecisive that the Kurds are the only ones looking like they have any sort of business sense. So if you cannot market the oil does it matter whose oil it may be? The Kurds know how much oil their region is looking at so they know what they want. Hard to tell exactly what the rest of Iraq has or what they are going to do with it because they spend every minute fighting over when to take a vacation.
