  1. I know you are right, but it's like trying not to think about a pink elephant. I had a really good job interview a few days ago, and a hotel employee stationed near where the paperwork was handed out said I was the only applicant who was interviewed so far. They really wanted someone with a CDL, but the classified did not even mention a CDL, so I thought I was in like Flynn. What a letdown when they didn't offer me the job (they may have even been just going thru the motions per policy- someone already in mind). I did manage not to celebrate (much) prematurely, but I was 95% sure that job was mine! So, if these guys are simply off, or an unforseen delay interferes a little while - nothing is certain until it is. If, however, this rumor was meant to be misleading from the start - well, let's leave it as their karma taking a nose dive. Just guess what I REALLY think! I should recognize that these folks have definitely stuck their necks out - and I read the same prediction from multiple sources - and some of them have an OK reputation. So, I think the stand up thing to do is give them the benefit of the doubt, as long as there is doubt. I feel that this would be fair, and being fair is so important. Let's hope this will all be mute! Hope springs eternal. Peace and Prosperity
  2. Hey BanG, what I've been reading is that the announcement will precede the rate going live by at least a day or two. Maybe announce by mid-week to delay going live until Sunday? I'm trying not to count on this, but I may have to get a long haul trucking job if it doesn't, and I have no desire to live in a truck again. Especially a company truck, after I owned a top-of-the-line Volvo 770, which was a very sweet ride. Oh well - worst case scenario is I have to endure for a year, year and a half max. With all the recent progress by the GOI, probably not that long. Also factor in the fire being lit under their butts by the disgruntled masses. Brings me back to a previous post: the universe won't let the RV happen until I have been hired, so I can call to tell them I'm retiring instead. Jeeze I hate filling out job applications! I know - waaaaa! Peace and Prosperity
  3. I thought it was the Amir. I'll look for the PM instead, but this may not be a publicly announced visit, in case things don't go as well as planned, won't have to report failure. Also reduces security concerns. But may have been nothing but rumor. Peace and Prosperity
  4. Well, this just might improve the efficacy of the GOI several fold. Could speed up the process and reduce "mistakes" (as in poorly thought out policies/laws). Our gov. could probably benefit from this kind of action. Peace and Prosperity
  5. Nice to see an analysis from this angle. It's scary that I was wondering about this exact subject yesterday - how many dinar are out there, how much does the US Gov. have, how much do investors hold, and how might that affect the rate? You have succeeded in blowing my mind! I just wish the numbers indicated a higher rate needed to satisfy the war debt. Of course, this info helps indicate what the minimum rate is likely to be. The natural resources and production capabilities, etc., could lead the IMF and WTO and UN to approve a higher rate if Iraq asks for one (I understand that Iraq has to fly it by these guys, not just declare any rate they want?). Feedback, y"all. Thanks for the effort. Peace and Prosperity
  6. Another sign of progress. I think this conference will be more successful if the dinar is stronger when they conduct it, but I could be wrong. Just guessing they will lose a lot of time dealing with RV concerns if it hasn't happened yet - but I'm not 100% sure the US Gov. is going to have the final word on the RV happening, so they can't plan on when it is going to happen either. I've reached the point where I look at all Iraq related news through RV-colored glasses. Still, good news is good news. Thanx for the post. Please share your thoughts, y'all! (I know you will anyway, that's why we're here). Peace and Prosperity
  7. Hey Cstep You didn't paste quite enough. Iraq is asking for an extension and a new kind of access. The text above the date is for Mongolia. I have absolutely no idea if this is good or bad. Can't say as I like the otherguru's message, but his WTO info looks right. However, I think the wild card is the Iraqi people. The GOI has shifted into high gear (well, for them) with the protests and the other M.E. unrest. Surely the GOI knows they need to make truly significant changes in a hurry, because the longer the protests continue, the greater the risk the security forces will over react and protest will morph into revolution. Hope the GOI (or Shabibi) decides that the RV is in everybody's interest - because of the situation within Iraq, not the WTO or the IMF. Everything seems to be in place, and there is still the matter of H. H. Amiri of Kuwait's visit (which I could not confirm, and decided not to email a query to his office for fear this "intel" was from a source, not a site). As per usual, I'll wait and see. Peace and Prosperity
  8. B S 101 I gather you have issues, and no dinar. Or did you buy a bunch years ago expecting it to be a much shorter term investment? If I end up waiting years without an RV, I won't be very happy either - but all the recent progress is definitely encouraging. If nothing else, I'm relying on the greed of the corrupt. They need the RV in order to benefit enough from their ill-gotten gains. How do you like them apples, folks. Peace and Prosperity
  9. I forget, was Maliki Ivy League educated? Sorry Ivy Leaguers, I'm a Reedie. Peace, and Prosperity with other people's money.
  10. I also wish to add my kudos, Truthful. Its not that I found that article fascinating, but I do see that info as a positive step. I forget, but it might also be one of the WTO requirements to have a system of arbitration in place for foreign companies operating in Iraq. Am I off on this? I could go back to Scooter's piece, but I'm way to bleary eyed. Peace and Prosperity
  11. I fear for the people of Iraq, that those who wish to force their ideals and control over their countrymen will never allow a State of peace and prosperity.
  12. Now that's more like it. If you hadn't posted just a bare link, I never would have found such a good English Iraqi news source. Thanks! I definitely bookmarked that sucker. Peace and Prosperity
  13. usndiver You are right. I was operating under the false impression that an Iraqi news agency was sending out these press releases in the form we see them here. I couldn't understand why THEY didn't use a better translator. I guess the DVs posting them are using a Google app to translate from Arabic. With our presence in Iraq, and an embassy, it just doesn't make sense that these articles need to be translated at our end. Oh well, a lot of what I see in the world doesn't make sense to me. Peace and Prosperity
  14. Umbertino - I can't retire on $0.10, so needs to be more to be a Huge blessing for me. I think $0.50 would be enough. I have one investment that pays a huge interest, but don't want to put everything in it in case it turns out to be unstable. No point making tons off RV just to lose it getting way to greedy afterward. IslandGirl7 - do you need a Tarzan for your Jane on that island? Peace and Prosperity
  15. I like the originals pasted in, but my browser won't recognize the need to pan right when I zoom in enough to read them! Also, I'm not sure the "Financial restructuring" statement has anything to do with RV. I kept looking for "Tradeable currency" but didn't find it. There must be some kind of WTO requirement that the currency exchange rates be market set, not pegged. I could be wrong, but why would any country trade with another that screws them on the exchange rate? (I must profess total ignorance on this issue). Peace and Prosperity
  16. To snag the fresh roadkill chicken for supper!
  17. Thanks mninvestor. I should have worded my previous post more carefully, but in truth I was sympathizing with DinarChiTown's sentiment at least a little. My heart and my psyche can't take much more of this roller coaster ride, and it has only been a few months for me. I've been invested almost a year, but only recently have I felt compelled to follow the chatter so closely. Actually, I was trying to make a query as to the veracity of the Emir's visit and Chapter 7 information, because I distinctly remember reading, maybe back in December, that all of the sanctions had been lifted. I already spend way too much time here and on another site, so trying to find this info on my own seemed too daunting. Past attempts have been fruitless, so I figured posting a query here would be more successful - and it was. I thank you for your response and regret that my query came out as negative as it did. A little in my defense, I thought this site exists so we don't all have to do our own research. Peace and Prosperity
  18. Well, how good is the intel about the Emir of Kuwait stopping for a visit? We do see laws finally being passed. How good is the intel that Iraq has NOT been fully released from Chapter 7 (I thought that happened in Dec.) I remember talk of the Emir bringing "papers." Maybe the Wallstreet Journal and New York Times. Speaking of which, I have yet to see even the honest to God news coming out of Iraq being mentioned in the WSJ. No talk of the dinar as an investment opportunity. Do they have info but compelled to keep silent? Gagged? Doesn't seem possible they have no idea! Who really shot JFK? It is upsetting to know that I will never know the whole truth about anything in the papers or on the news. Just what they see fit to print. Of course, when it comes to politics, transparency is the last thing our "representatives" want. I suspect less than a third of the wheeling, dealing, and stealing could stand the light of day. Too many of them want to be career politicians: line their pockets, bolster their power and influence, then get re-elected. Getting the job done and running the country as fairly and efficiently as possible isn't even on their radar. OK, rant out of my system. Peace and Prosperity
  19. Guys, I never saw anything that referenced these regs specifically to the Dinar - they were in reference to any currency exchange. However, the original articles did say that the Dinar traders were sent this information, but maybe all currency traders were sent the same "memo." I fail to see how this information would spur "pumping" since they are said to already be in effect. Trading straight to gold or a non-dollar currency in order to avoid a "taxable" event is obviously a loophole, so not surprised to see it closed. I think the main thing is to not cash out more than necessary until you achieve "long term" capital gain status. Peace and Prosperity
  20. All one paragraph? I've reached the point that I read the followup comments instead of the original press releases, or whatever they are. I guess they cannot afford a good translator, or rely on software. Too much effort trying to interpret the actual meaning in the present form. I get that whoever was saying the laws the GOI passes should be geared towards achieving a market economy rather than a government controlled economy. Peace, prosperity, and proper English.
  21. Building a port facility of this nature, not just for Iraqi import/export, sounds like a splendid idea, especially considering the vulnerability of the Suez and the current Somali pirate problems. Who masterminded this bold venture? It has to predate the current administrators. Good for Iraq. Be a player in more than the oil industry! Besides, a good rail system would be a real boon for everyone. Peace and prosperity, y'all.
  22. I would not have gotten the date reference without the replies. Thanks guys. When I climbed onto this ride, I was expecting Daytona, but I got Baja instead! Add to that the irrepressible need to cry wolf, and I'm becoming a basket case. However, if the Emir of Kuwait does arrive in Iraq Monday I have to believe it bodes well for the RV. I thought all the Chapter 7 sanctions had already been lifted, but it is possible the Emir still needs to sign off on the last one? If that is the case, then every single earlier prediction was doomed to be wrong - but I'm sure truly reliable intel is hard to come by, especially if we don't know who or what is really in the driver's seat. That and the GOI's effectiveness is a JOKE. Too bad I'm no longer fond of roller coasters after a long rollover accident in the mountains near SLC, UT, back in the mid 70s. Peace and Prosperity (and one out of two ain't bad)
  23. I have no comment as to veracity. I do have a comment on hostility. Don't like it, don't need it, don't want to read it. In fact, I believe a public attack like I see above is just the kind of attention grabbing that was being ranted against. I would like to see that level of attack redacted by the moderator. I hope we can keep this a little lighter. In peace, Off-the-Grid
  24. This thread does belongs in the Rumor Forum, but certainly is a welcome read. I do believe this intel fits in well with the news of the session extension and the expected arrival of a Kuwaiti delegation this week and the very interesting WTO want ad. Do I understand correctly that the large US Treasury team is still in-country? Well, I see something big happening soon. However, I suspect that the universe isn't going to allow the main event until I talk my way into a job - just so I can feel like crap telling them I'm retiring my first day! I'm trying to get hired asap. Sorry for the holdup, everybody. This weighs heavy on my shoulders. Mark, your friendly neighborhood off-the-grid golf nut.
  25. I concur that we are seeing a a lot of positive news coming out of Iraq. I agree with other posts about Maliki's corrupt motives to delay the RV (as in get his hands on mucho dinar first), so I am waiting for some entity with enough clout to force his hand, or replace him with someone who will get the job done. On another thread, I have seen some interesting (consternating?) remarks about the negative effects that will follow from a substantial RV - like the number of people in country who will naturally wish to retire immediately. I just hope the RV isn't delayed while all of the inept governments involved try to legislate ways to avoid the downside. Gotta say, it is really hard to job hunt in earnest with all this going on - but know I have to do it in case RV takes a while - YUCK! Positive thoughts all!
