Before the start of the war in Fallujah and Anbar in central Iraq, a group of Americans visited the country and found it in such a condition that they predicted it could be never be at peace.

In a popular new report published under the title “Sectarian War in Iraq Draws the Map of Three Regions”, Joe Biden, the US Vice President, has drawn up a plan for dividing Iraq into three regions.

Before being appointed as Vice President of the United States, Senator Joe Biden proposed a plan to divide Iraq into three regions. New developments such as the escalating civil war in Anbar and Fallujah, the establishment of militias belonging to the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) in central Iraq, and the ongoing row between the Iraqi Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) over budget sharing and oil exports have increased the possibility of a division of Iraq after the 2014 Iraqi parliamentary election.

Some analysts believe that, after the election, political parties in Iraq will not be able to form a government and that the Kurdistan Region will announce an independent Kurdish state.

Kurdish leaders have stated their preference to have a confederation with an independent Kurdish state, rather than three divided regions in Iraq.

Bakir Hama Sediq, the Iraqi MP from the Kurdistan Coalition List told BasNews that the instability in central Iraq and the KRG’s disagreements with the Iraqi Government hail the implementation of the Biden plan, adding that while the Kurds seek a confederation, the Sunnis want to ally themselves with the Kurds.

Sediq further said that geopolitically, Iraq consists of three parts. In addition to this, the damaging policies pursued by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, have increased the popularity and likelihood of a split.

Sediq believes that according to US reports, America knows that Iraq cannot survive as a united country, but still pretends to be against division.

According to a recent American report, Turkey and Iran have no objection to the formation of a new Kurdish state, and would actually benefit from it.

The recent strategic energy agreement between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey is one of the factors that have encouraged Turkey to accept an independent Kurdish state.

Kurdish leaders now believe that rather dividing Iraq, they would prefer to have confederation status with Iraq.

Muaed Tayib, the speaker of Kurdistan Coalition List in the Iraqi Parliament told BasNews that Kurdish leaders support the division of Iraq under the condition that a referendum is held in the disputed areas to decide whether those areas should join the Kurdistan Region or remain as part of Iraq. As Kurds, they do not believe in the sovereignty of the central government in Iraq.

He further said that Kurds believe that if three separate regions in Iraq are created, relations between them will strengthen. Tayib urged that federalism has failed in Iraq and that the Kurdistan Region now wants to become an independent state.

Kamil Dlemi, the Iraqi MP from Anbar province said that unfortunately the Joe Biden plan is being implemented by Nouri al-Maliki, and that his wrong decisions are leading to the division of Iraq.

The Saudis will take over the Sunni parts of Iraq

Those Kurds are gonna wish they never were born
