Will Maliki's appointments automatically be approved?

From what is out there in the news and in the chats, Maliki has to present his appointments to Parliament for approval (by Dec. 25th). Since the positions seemed to have been pretty much worked out before hand, I have been assuming they will be approved as submitted by Maliki. Does anyone have a feeling as to whether the Kurds or Iraqiya List might vote against Maliki's proposals? If so, what is the next step? Does Allawi get to form? These questions are not intended to discourage anyone - all of the information seems to lead to an automatic approval once Maliki presents - but this is Iraq... THANKS for any insight.

Actually the President is required to have his Secretary selections for the various departments approved by the Senate - i.e. Defense, Labor, Commerce, Treasury, etc. These Secretaries form his Cabinet. The Iraqis' Council of Ministers is similar in many ways to the U.S. President's Cabinet. However, in this instance in Iraq we are talking about a cobbled-together alliance between some very disparate groups. So nothng can be assumed to be automatic. They don't have any history or tradition in their new democratic system and their is a LOT of mistrust.

Automatically? No, they have to vote on his cabinet per say. Can "A" or someone toss a monkey wrench into the mix and stop this in its tracks? YES, will they? More than likely not, whom ever does will be looked upon in the public eye as the reason they still have "NO" GOI, money and there will be issues in the streets. IMO the Iraqi people will not tolerate any delays. Again IMO, it's done and we are just waiting for the UNSC to arrive for the official press conference.

Stay grounded, calm and be happy.
