Baghdad Today – Baghdad

The Parliamentary Services and Reconstruction Committee confirmed on Sunday (August 20, 2023) that coordination is ongoing and continuous between the House of Representatives and the government for the benefit of the citizen, while reviewing the role of Parliament in any government progress that currently occurs.

Committee member Heba Zarzis told Baghdad Today that "the House of Representatives and the Iraqi government are working to provide the best services to citizens, and each works according to his powers, as parliament is working to legislate laws that serve the citizen and oblige the government to implement those laws to provide the best services to citizens."

He added, "The House of Representatives is working on its oversight role in following up on government work and performance, and at the same time works on its legislative role by legislating various laws, and there is joint coordination between the executive and legislative authorities in order to provide what is best for the Iraqi people."

Parliamentary support Privilege

The government, headed by Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani, has the privilege of parliamentary support, in addition to the almost complete absence of parliamentary opposition, which ended with the resignation of members of the Sadrist bloc from the House of Representatives in its current session.

The government faces great challenges and has committed itself to the ministerial curriculum presented to parliament and the extent of its commitment and ability to achieve services and the aspirations of the people, while Iraqis await the enactment of laws that serve the general public.

Parliament Exploiting Political Calm

Today, Sunday (August 20, 2023), the Parliamentary Strategic Planning Committee referred to what it called the House of Representatives' exploitation of political and security calm in favor of passing important laws.

Committee member Suad al-Maliki told Baghdad Today that "certainly any political differences and any security tension in the country will have a significant and direct impact on the work of the House of Representatives in terms of legislating laws as well as affecting government work in various fields."

Al-Maliki pointed out that "the calm and security and political stability that Iraq is witnessing after the formation of the government of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, prompted the parliament to legislate important laws and discuss other important laws with the aim of legislating them during the coming period."

She stressed: "There is consensus and political agreement to pass laws that directly affect the lives of citizens during the current parliamentary session."

Observers believe that there is a state of stability within the political scene and that the relationship between the executive and legislative authorities is at its best, after the political system has learned the lesson that it is in one compound and that any weakness in any party will lead to weakness for both parties.
