A statement from Barzani's headquarters stated, during the meeting, the political situation in Iraq and the negotiating process for holding the next parliament session, choosing the President of the Republic and forming the federal government, were discussed, and the meeting agreed to study these sensitive issues and reach solutions before the relevant session was held.

The delegation was headed by Iraqi Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, accompanied by prime ministerial candidate Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Faleh al-Fayyad, and head of the Sovereignty Alliance, Khamis al-Khanjar.

Earlier in the day, 170 deputies collected signatures to hold a session on Wednesday to elect the President of the Republic.

Today, Monday 10-10, marks a full year since the October early elections, which have not yet resulted in the formation of a government due to the struggle of the political blocs.

The first months after the elections in October 2021 witnessed open sit-ins by the forces of the Shiite coordination framework, which ended after a decision of the Federal Supreme Court ratifying the election results, while the Sadrist bloc that won those elections failed to form a government of the "national majority", which prompted the leader of The Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr to withdraw from Parliament.

About 10 months after the elections, supporters of the Sadrist movement staged a sit-in in the parliament building for more than a month to protest against the nomination of Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani to head the next government, after which they stormed the Republican Palace, which ignited bloody clashes between the Armory Brigades, the military wing of the movement, and the security forces inside the Green Zone.

A state of widespread concern prevails among the political forces over Al-Sadr's continued silence (Getty)

The Iraqi capital, Baghdad , and the northern city of Erbil have witnessed , since Monday morning, intensive meetings between leaders and representatives of various political blocs and parties, to discuss the file of consensus on the presidential candidate, and the formation of a new delegation to try to meet the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr , before proceeding with the process Formation of the new government, as there is widespread concern among the political forces about Sadr's continued silence and the possibility of preparing another "surprise" by mobilizing the street to disrupt the formation of the government.

Today marks the first anniversary of holding early parliamentary elections in Iraq, amid the continuation of political conflicts and the failure to form the new government, with calls for the rerun of early elections and the dissolution of the current Iraqi parliament, due to the inability of political forces to resolve the dispute for a whole year.

Well-informed Iraqi political sources told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that "intensive meetings will take place in the capital, Baghdad, during the next two days, between all blocs and parties, with the aim of accelerating the process of forming the new government, and resolving the presidential dispute between the Kurdish forces, until the matter came." to the Kurds’ threat to hold a session without waiting for consensus among the Kurds, in order not to delay the formation of the government.”

The sources added that "the Kurdistan Democratic Party expressed its strong rejection of holding any session to elect the president of the republic without agreement between the Kurdish forces, and any session held without prior agreement will be boycotted, with adherence to and insistence on its candidate, Reber Ahmed Khaled, which prompted a political delegation to go to meet with Party leader Massoud Barzani.

And she indicated that "a political delegation comprising Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi and the representative of the negotiations for the framework, Faleh al-Ghayyad, in addition to the candidate for prime minister, Muhammad Shi`a al-Sudani, arrived in the city of Erbil, this morning, Monday, and held a meeting upon his arrival with the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, to try to He pushed him to agree with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on one candidate for the presidency, in order to set a date for the presidential election session.

The street obstructs the government formation process."

Iraq is experiencing the longest crisis of its kind, as differences between the political forces have prevented the formation of a new government since the last elections, which took place on October 10, 2021, and this crisis developed into an armed clash after supporters of the Sadrist movement stormed the Green Zone and the parliament building. Then the scene developed into clashes between them and parties affiliated with the "Popular Mobilization", which caused dozens of deaths and injuries, before the movement's leader Muqtada al-Sadr directed his supporters to withdraw.

The leader in the coordination framework, Ali Al-Fatlawi, said, in a telephone conversation with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that "the departure of the political delegation, which represents the coalition of state administration to Erbil, aims to push the Kurdish forces to speed up the resolution of the dispute with the presidency, so this dispute cannot remain without solutions, which delays the process of forming a new government.

Al-Fatlawi indicated that "the political delegation, which represents the coalition of state administration, will deliver a direct message to the Kurdish forces during the meetings in Erbil, that the dispute over the presidency of the republic without resolving the file during this week will push to set the date for the election of the president of the republic without Waiting for the Kurdish consensus, and the choice of the new president remains with the vote of the deputies.”

He added that "work and movement are continuing in order to open channels of dialogue and negotiation with the Sadrist movement, and this file will not be absent from the meetings of the political delegation, which represents the State Administration Coalition in Erbil. Everyone wants the Sadrists to be an essential part of the government and the general political process during the next stage." .

For his part, the former Iraqi Prime Minister and leader of the "Victory" coalition, Haider al-Abadi, warned today, Monday, against continuing to disrupt the state, noting that the situation portends a popular revolution.

Al-Abadi said in a statement, "A year has passed since the early elections, and the political blockage is still the dominant position, which is not appropriate for those who stand up to the leadership of a people and the administration of a state."

He added, "I had previously called, with public and private initiatives, to overcome the repercussions of the electoral process crisis and its aftermath, and to go to national constitutional settlements produced by a constructive and responsible dialogue to get out of the crisis. ".

He continued, "I regret speaking in the language of warning, but politicians must realize that continuing to disrupt the state portends a popular revolution and the internationalization of the Iraqi situation, which is not acceptable to Iraqis," expressing his hope that "the approach of wisdom will prevail to end the political crisis, in the interest of the state, order and the people."

Shafaq News/ The Spokesman for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Dr. Soran Jamal Taher, announced the Patriotic Union's adherence to the position of President of the Republic, and while he expressed his hope to reach an agreement with the Democratic Party, he renewed his party's refusal to resolve this entitlement through the majority and the minority.

Soran Jamal Taher said in a press statement received by Shafak News Agency, that the Patriotic Union has always worked to prepare the ground for dialogue to resolve national national issues related to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, noting that the majority and the minority were not the decisive factor in resolving the Kurdish entitlements in the political process in Iraq.

Soran added; Returning to the Kurdistan Parliament to decide the candidates for positions that will go to the Kurds in Baghdad, was not followed previously until it is approved now, so the best solution lies in agreeing on the position of the President of the Republic between the two parties, and for the National Union to retain the position for the next session.

The spokesman for the National Union indicated that the National Union has a number of seats that ensure that the position of the President of the Republic remains in its possession, pointing out that the survival of the position with the National Union guarantees the unity of the ranks and the Kurdish position, and the joint work and coordination between the Union and the Democratic Party.

Taher stressed that the National Union seeks by all means to reach an agreement with the Democrat, and that it did not seek to find alternatives other than the agreement with the Democrat, and added, in the event that no agreement is reached between the two sides, this will create a state of dissatisfaction, and we will then be forced to repeat the scenario of 2018. And for each party to go with its candidate to the House of Representatives, and we are ready to accept its results, whatever they are, ruling out that the decision of the position of the President of the Republic will cause a deterioration in the relationship between the National Union and the Democratic Party.

Shafaq News/ A representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party revealed on Tuesday that there are "framework" pressures on the parliament's presidency to hold a session to elect the president of the republic, regardless of the Kurdish forces reaching an agreement on the presidential candidate.

Representative Jayyi Timur, from the Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc, told Shafak News Agency; "The Erbil meeting of the leadership of the state administration coalition with Massoud Barzani did not produce any results that lead to a final solution."

Timur added; "There is no agreement on the nomination of a single Kurdish figure for the position of President of the Republic, and that entering with candidates and re-experiencing 2018 is undesirable for the Democratic Party as well as the Patriotic Union. This will affect the political situation within the region and the formation of the new government."

He continued, "There is also no agreement to choose a candidate for the position of the President of the Republic, and there is no agreement to hold an election session, but the coordinating framework puts pressure on the parliament's presidency to hold the presidential election session on Wednesday or Thursday."

The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, met yesterday, Monday, with a delegation from the State Administration Coalition, in Erbil.

According to a statement by Barzani's headquarters, the meeting discussed the political situation in Iraq and the negotiating process for holding the next parliament session, choosing the president of the republic and forming the federal government, and the meeting agreed to study these sensitive issues and reach solutions before holding the relevant session.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan insists on pushing its candidate, the current president, Barham Salih.

The spokesman for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Soran Jamal Taher, announced that the Patriotic Union seeks by all means to reach an agreement with the Democrat, and that it did not seek to find alternatives other than the agreement with the Democrat.

And he added that if an agreement is not reached between the two sides, this will create a state of dissatisfaction, and we will then be forced to repeat the scenario of 2018, and for each party to go with its candidate to the House of Representatives and we are ready to accept its results, whatever they are, ruling out that the decision of the position of the President of the Republic will cause The deterioration of the relationship between the National Union and the Democratic Party.

Yesterday, 170 deputies collected signatures to hold a session on Wednesday to elect the president of the republic, but other forces wanted to postpone the session to Thursday to allow more time to reach a Kurdish agreement on the presidential candidate.

Yesterday, 10-10, coincided with the passage of a full year since the holding of the early October elections, which have not yet resulted in the formation of a government due to the struggle of the political blocs.

The first months after the elections in October 2021 witnessed open sit-ins by the forces of the Shiite coordination framework, which ended after a decision of the Federal Supreme Court to ratify the election results, while the Sadrist bloc that won those elections failed to form a government of the "national majority", which prompted the leader of The Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr to withdraw from Parliament.

About 10 months after the elections, supporters of the Sadrist movement staged a sit-in in the parliament building for more than a month in protest against the nomination of Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani to head the next government, after which they stormed the Republican Palace, which ignited bloody clashes between the armed wing of the armed wing of the movement and the security forces inside the Green Zone.

In turn, the representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Parliamentary bloc, Sherif Suleiman, told Shafaq News Agency, "There is no final agreement between the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the political forces on the candidate for the post of President of the Republic, despite the Parliament's setting a date for the parliament session to elect the President of the Republic." .

Adviser to the President of the Republic: Al-Sadr agrees to a second term for Barham Salih

Baghdad - people

Hawzen Amin, advisor to the President of the Republic, said on Tuesday that the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, agreed to elect Barham Salih for a second term, and was supported by the majority of Shiite, Kurdish and Sunni blocs.

Amin stated in a post translated by "Nas Kord" (October 11, 2022), that "Al-Sadr and his movement have no problem in re-electing Saleh, but it seems that they have comments on the candidacy of Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani."

The advisor in the Presidency of the Republic stressed that "Barham Salih is the most fortunate in the House of Representatives."

On Tuesday, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan appealed to the parliament that its decision be the final decision in electing the president of the republic, unless an agreement is reached with his democratic counterpart.

The editorial of the "Kurdistan Nawa" newspaper, which is affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and followed by "Nass" (January 11, 2022), stated that "if there is no Kurdish agreement to resolve the issue of the president of the republic, then let the Iraqi democracy say it."

And she explained in the editorial text, "If a Kurdish agreement does not happen to resolve this issue, then the agreement can play its role in two or three other issues for the Kurdistan region."

He added, "The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party must discuss the issue of the upcoming Kurdish elections, and solve the people's problems and daily living."

He pointed out that "the agreement and harmony in Kurdistan can solve many problems. And if he is not able to do his duty in one place? Why can't he do it in another place? The truth can be like this."

And he indicated that "if the agreement on the president's issue reached a dead end, let us let democracy speak in the Iraqi parliament hall, and allow the 2018 scenario to be repeated," while I asked, "What is wrong with the 2018 scenario? Through democracy and the halal voice of the Iraqi representatives, the position of the next president of the Iraqi Republic will be decided." ".

The head of the Democratic bloc in the Iraqi Federal Parliament, Vian Sabri, confirmed, on Monday, that the leader of her party, Massoud Barzani, has no personal position against the current President of the Republic, Barham Salih, indicating that the Patriotic Union has more than one candidate for the presidency.

Sabri said during her hosting on the "With Mullah Talal" program, followed by "Nas" (10 October 2022), that "the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has more than one candidate for the presidency of the republic," noting that "the Democrat's insistence on the presidency is not a maneuver." Rather, it is because the party represents the most numerous Kurdish bloc.

She stressed that "the Democrat has not relinquished until this moment the position of the presidency of the republic," noting that "Massoud Barzani does not have any personal position against the current president, Barham Salih."

She pointed out that "there is no settlement candidate so far within the Kurdish House."

On Monday, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan suggested that the Kurdistan Democratic Party would boycott the presidential election session, in the event that no candidate was agreed upon between the two Kurdish parties.

In an interview with colleague Ahmed Mulla Talal, followed by "Nass" (October 10, 2022), a member of the Iraqi parliament on behalf of the Union, Aso Faridoun, said that "the political process in Iraq is not calculated in numbers, whether in previous or current sessions, but rather it is It is determined by the decisions of the Federal Court, the Iraqi constitution, and the interpretations of these articles by the Federal Court, and for this reason, there must be understanding and consensus between the political forces, as well as the case with the Kurdish parties.

Fereydoun added, "The absence of agreement between the two Kurdish parties on a candidate for the presidency is not in the interest of the region and its citizens, and we will enter the next parliamentary session to elect the president of the republic, and if there is no agreement on a candidate, I think that the Democratic Party will not participate in the session and will boycott it, and then it will The will of the deputies during the session is the decision.”

He continued, "If the Democratic Party does not reach an agreement on a single candidate in the coming days, the will of the members of the House of Representatives will determine the candidate for the next president of the republic independently of the two Kurdish parties."

Regarding the scenario of the entry of the two Kurdish parties with two candidates, the Framework, the Sovereignty, and the Party, who will vote for Reber Ahmed for the presidency, he stated that “it is a difficult scenario to happen, and it will not happen in this way, and the matter will be left to settlement and political directives within the House of Representatives.”
