Saudi authorities said, it appointed its first resident ambassador to Iraq since 1991, after negotiations that lasted for months between the two countries since the formation of the government of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in September 2014.

 

According to Saudi media followed up the news on Tuesday, the Saudi government appointed Thamer bin Sabhan Sabhan first resident ambassador in Iraq since 1991.

It is said that Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari announced on Sunday (24 May 2015), for Iraq's agreement to the new Saudi ambassador in Baghdad, who was appointed by the Kingdom, while warned that Saudi Arabia will not extradite the risk of organizing 'Daash'.

 

Jaafari stressed, in (April 24, 2015) that the Iraqi-Saudi relations have been excellent developments, pointing out that there was a proposal put forward two days ago to name the Saudi ambassador in Baghdad.

 

It is said that a high-level Saudi delegation visited Baghdad, in (January 4, 2015), and met with Deputy Foreign Minister Nizar goodness of God to discuss arrangements for the reopening of the Saudi embassy and procedures.

 

And cut diplomatic relations between Iraq and Saudi Arabia in 1990 against the backdrop of the occupation of Kuwait by Iraqi forces on the second of August 1990.
