TUCSON Ariz. (Reuters) - A 9-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed her shooting instructor at an Arizona range with an Israeli-made Uzi submachine gun when the weapon's strong recoil caused her to lose control of her aim, police said on Tuesday.

They said that Charles Vacca, 39, had been standing next to the girl at the Last Stop shooting range in White Hills near the Nevada border on Monday morning showing her how to fire the automatic weapon.

When she pulled the trigger, the recoil forced her aim over her head, and Vacca was shot in the head, according to a Mohave County Sheriff’s Office statement.

Vacca was airlifted to nearby Las Vegas, where he was pronounced dead. A spokesman for the sheriff’s department did not know how many times Vacca was shot or what model of Uzi the girl was firing.

Some Uzi models are capable of firing up to 1,700 rounds per minute, or almost 30 rounds per second, according to the manufacturer’s website.

The girl, whom police did not identify, was at the outdoor range with her parents.

Last Stop, which includes a restaurant, bar and RV park, has a “Burgers and Bullets” program that offers customers lunch with a trip to the range, where they can choose from among more than 20 automatic weapons to shoot, according to its website.

Please don't blame the girl. The adults who own this outfit are about as idiotic as they come. I've been in the weapons industry for many years and would never, ever think of handing a 9 year old a weapon of this magnitude no matter how much money I could make.  This is all about greed and a fast buck. I feel sorry for the 9 year old as she has to live with this for the rest of her life. This was stupidity on both the gun range and her parents. My two cents on this matter. I don't care how many negs I get but it is what it is.  AMEN

Extremely sad that a man lost his life and a little girl has been traumatized.

This is what happens when adults are irresponsibile. I mean who in their right mind would place this or any other weapon in the hands of a child... Let alone let them fire it? It just makes no sense to me.

Saint you nailed it.

9 year old girl + full auto machine gun. =   Very bad Ju Ju

Interesting the article didn't even mention the parents. She should be playing with barbie dolls and having fun in a swimming pool, not firing a gun. Her life is ruined forever.  No childhood there.

Dont really agree with that statement Goldie. There`s nothing wrong with girls enjoying the sport of shooting. I taught my girls right along with my boys when it came to firearms. Ii continue to do so with my grandchildren. Girls need to know how to protect themselves too and also how to harvest meat. They can still have there barbie doll time and fun in the pool.
