Westboro Meets Its Match: Thousands Sign Retaliatory Petitions

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thousands have signed two separate petitions that would classify Topeka’s Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group and strip it of its tax exempt status. The petitions were started after members of Westboro announced plans to protest a Sunday vigil in Newtown, Conn.

After Westboro Baptist Church spokesperson Shirey Phelps-Roper tweeted plans to protest the vigil, “to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgement,” the hacktivist group known as “Anonymous” threatened the church via video. In it, an automated voice says, “We will not allow you to corrupt the minds of America with your seeds of hatred. We will not allow you to inspire aggression to the social faction which you deem inferior. We will render you obsolete. We will destroy you. We are coming.”

In addition to the video, Anonymous hacked Westboro’s website and released personal information about church members including names, street addresses, phone numbers and email addresses according to CNET.

Anonymous didn’t stop there. Using its Twitter account, Anonymous asked its followers to sign a petition that would investigate the IRS tax-exempt status of the church. As stated on the White House website, the petition claims: “The Westboro Baptist Church is better-known for homophobic displays, suing people and picketing funerals than for providing Christian care to a community. Due to their harassment and politicking, their IRS tax-exempt status should be immediately investigated.”

A total of 16,062 signatures are needed before the White House will review the petition. As of noon on Monday, nearly 10,000 people had signed it.

Another petition aims at stripping Westboro of its “religious” affiliation and classifying it as a hate group. As stated in part on the White House website, Westboro’s “actions have been directed at many groups, including homosexuals, military, Jewish people and even other Christians. They pose a threat to the welfare and treatment of others and will not improve without some form of imposed regulation.”

Over 108,000 people have signed this petition, which surpasses the 25,000 needed for the White House to review it.

I thought only the SPLC and the ADL could declare a group as a hate group.

While I condone every thing this group stands for, I think it would be a grave injustice to limit their 1st Ammendment right due to their unpopular beliefs.

There must be a better way of dealing with these fools.

Do you really mean to say that you condone this group actions? I think you made a mistake in your use of the term.

Yes... I made a mistake.

Should read: While I don't condone...

they protest soldiers funerals . saying that its god punishing them ..

what would they say if a bunch of wild bikers pulled up and kicked the living crap out of them .. and the media just wrote it off sayin god was punishing them .. and everyone would just protest in front of their church with signs saying god punihed you for your actions .. ..

it could happen .. they could actually end up getting killed themselves if they dont watch their selves ;; i think the police should aresst them and do mental evaluations on them and if they are found to be unstable .. maybe they should be instituionalized .. for their own protection ..of course.

I'm guessing you also caught that they are not losing their 1st Amendment rights, and instead the proposal is to revoke their tax exempt status... wink.gif

Actually, tax exemption for churches comes from freedom of religion which comes under the 1st Amendment.

Take theirs... Take it from every church.

Maybe you think the idea of the the thought police is a good one?

There comes a point in time where the old argument regarding the 1st amendment vesus crying 'fire' in a crowded room. Common sense needs to be utilized. One person's 'rights' were never meant to be used as a weapon to surpress another's. Westboro has cruxified common sense. They keep crying fire in a crowded room creating havox. When a child gets in the face of their mother and calls them a female dog and other names they deserve to get spanked. They miight have a right to say those things according to the 1st amendment while the parent also has a right to discipline. Rights are only true rights when used properly. Rights and responsibility MUST go together. I have a right in my own home to walk around naked as a Jay bird but my responsibility not to permanently traumatize the neighbors forces me to keep the blinds closed.

Michelle Bachman, like Westboro, thinks Sandy Hook was god's will:

Congresswoman Michelle Bachman of Minnesota equates violence in schools with “Jihadi lunches.” Bachman pointed out that schools that served “terrorist lunches” that included falafel or hummus, substances she believes likely to draw down the “wrath of god,” are responsible.

Maybe we should charge Bachman extra taxes?

I really liked to bulk of that link except his conclusion. I agree that we are not in everything he says, but I don't think we are up against something so easily named as "evil". To clarify, I'm not sure what it is that is really going on. It's likely a culmination of many things wrong in our society. I am hesitant to give it a vague, nondescript name that requires some sort of "believing" to even exist. Anyway, the conclusion of that particular article probably wasn't even what you were using as an example but I read it and enjoyed it and that's what I have to say about it!

Here's the end of it I'm referencing to avoid any confusion.

The Sandy Hook School murders were not isolated events. They are a trend, one that has long taken root in America, a trend misconstrued, a trend misidentified, a trend we are afraid to put a real name to.

The simple truth is not that we have left god out of schools as Huckabee claims or that children are eating “Jihadi ‘chick peas’” as the reprehensible Michelle Bachman blithers on about.

We are in a war, not one between political philosophies or extremist religious groups. We are in a war between good and evil.

We have forgotten that evil is very real, you can see it, you can smell it, you can touch it.

Failing to recognize this for so long, we can now look around us, particularly to those of power, those of wealth, those who seek authority, those who yearn for privilege.

We can look there and find it.

We see evil, we are surrounded by it, we recognize it, identify it easily and our chosen solution in most cases is to oppose it by hoping it will simply go away.

It will not.

I'll go with that.

Now is the hard part, what started the trend?

Is it SSRIs? Violent video games? Kids not having parents around? The poisons in our food and water?

Is it the PTB using mind control to stage these massacres to take our rights away?

With any incident, or terror attack, we must look to see who benefits.

I haven't known what to say here...

I've seen so much hate and fear spewing out in some folks post, I just shut it down, turn this place off.

Honestly some have given me nightmares where I wake up either heartbroken or so angry I start writing down my thoughts in the middle of the night.

First... if you have any comprehension of God, of Love, then you know that the term "not allowed" is rediculous. God and Love are EVERYWHERE!

I wish guns never were invented, but they were... I do see it as vital that citizens have a way to protectect themselves from a corrupt Government.

Do we have a corrupt Government? Boy Howdy!!! WE are at fault for letting them rule us like stupid cattle and sheeple. The guns don't even matter.

They do it in ways that are so obvious yet we just believe the programed lying news everynight... well Some do... Some not EVER again!!!

I will say the biggest lie we have been being fed about our children is that 1 in 5 are Mentally Ill... who says that!!! Big Pharma???

I would say it's not a stretch to imagine their goal to be having 1 in 5 children on drugs, if it isn't that high now. Not only for $$$ but for control.

We've known about them causing higher #'s in teenage suicide for years now... why wouldn't it cause violence too? Both go against human nature.

We need to educate ourselves and grow a backbone when it comes to our childrens wellbeing. Turn off the idiot tube, watch their food, watch who is around them and do not allow anyone abuse them in any way with hatred or belittling. Our kids are not nurtured... they are drug up.

We have allowed fear and hate to permiate every part of our society, this site is a damn good example of that. I am Not going to tolerate that in my life anymore.

When I run across it I will either remove myself or respond when I can do something about it, I feel it's time for fight or flight.

Things must change or we are done for...BE AWARE!!! Expose the Lies! Expose the Hate! Expose the Corruption!

STOP ACCEPTING SUCH A LOW LIFE EXPERIENCE WHEN WE HAVE IT ALL TO TRULY LIVE FREE AND PROSPER AND BE HAPPY!

I meant to Thank You and Lostenso for your posts... I do believe this is a good thread that maybe will bring some good dialog.

Here is more food for thought...

Nobody is saying that Asperger's or Autism is the cause of the violence. It is the SSRI medications used to treat those conditions that have a long record of triggering suicide and violence.

Eric Harris age 17 (first on Zoloft then Luvox) and Dylan Klebold aged 18 (Colombine school shooting in Littleton, Colorado), killed 12 students and 1 teacher, and wounded 23 others, before killing themselves. Klebold’s medical records have never been made available to the public.

Jeff Weise, age 16, had been prescribed 60 mg/day of Prozac (three times the average starting dose for adults!) when he shot his grandfather, his grandfather’s girlfriend and many fellow students at Red Lake, Minnesota. He then shot himself. 10 dead, 12 wounded.

Cory Baadsgaard, age 16, Wahluke (Washington state) High School, was on Paxil (which caused him to have hallucinations) when he took a rifle to his high school and held 23 classmates hostage. He has no memory of the event.

Chris Fetters, age 13, killed his favorite aunt while taking Prozac.

Christopher Pittman, age 12, murdered both his grandparents while taking Zoloft.

Mathew Miller, age 13, hung himself in his bedroom closet after taking Zoloft for 6 days.

Jarred Viktor, age 15, stabbed his grandmother 61 times after 5 days on Paxil. Kip Kinkel, age 15, (on Prozac and Ritalin) shot his parents while they slept then went to school and opened fire killing 2 classmates and injuring 22 shortly after beginning Prozac treatment. Luke Woodham, age 16 (Prozac) killed his mother and then killed two students, wounding six others.

A boy in Pocatello, ID (Zoloft) in 1998 had a Zoloft-induced seizure that caused an armed stand off at his school.

Michael Carneal (Ritalin), age 14, opened fire on students at a high school prayer meeting in West Paducah, Kentucky. Three teenagers were killed, five others were wounded.

A young man in Huntsville, Alabama (Ritalin) went psychotic chopping up his parents with an ax and also killing one sibling and almost murdering another.

Andrew Golden, age 11, (Ritalin) and Mitchell Johnson, aged 14, (Ritalin) shot 15 people, killing four students, one teacher, and wounding 10 others.

TJ Solomon, age 15, (Ritalin) high school student in Conyers, Georgia opened fire on and wounded six of his class mates.

Rod Mathews, age 14, (Ritalin) beat a classmate to death with a bat.

James Wilson, age 19, (various psychiatric drugs) from Breenwood, South Carolina, took a.22 caliber revolver into an elementary school killing two young girls, and wounding seven other children and two teachers.

Elizabeth Bush, age 13, (Paxil) was responsible for a school shooting in Pennsylvania.

Jason Hoffman (Effexor and Celexa) – school shooting in El Cajon, California.

Jarred Viktor, age 15, (Paxil), after five days on Paxil he stabbed his grandmother 61 times.

Chris Shanahan, age 15 (Paxil) in Rigby, ID who out of the blue killed a woman.

Jeff Franklin (Prozac and Ritalin), Huntsville, AL, killed his parents as they came home from work using a sledge hammer, hatchet, butcher knife and mechanic’s file, then attacked his younger brothers and sister.

Neal Furrow (Prozac) in LA Jewish school shooting reported to have been court-ordered to be on Prozac along with several other medications.

Kevin Rider, age 14, was withdrawing from Prozac when he died from a gunshot wound to his head.

Initially it was ruled a suicide, but two years later, the investigation into his death was opened as a possible homicide. The prime suspect, also age 14, had been taking Zoloft and other SSRI antidepressants.

Alex Kim, age 13, hung himself shortly after his Lexapro prescription had been doubled. Diane Routhier was prescribed Welbutrin for gallstone problems. Six days later, after suffering many adverse effects of the drug, she shot herself.

Billy Willkomm, an accomplished wrestler and a University of Florida student, was prescribed Prozac at the age of 17. His family found him dead of suicide – hanging from a tall ladder at the family’s Gulf Shore Boulevard home in July 2002.

Kara Jaye Anne Fuller-Otter, age 12, was on Paxil when she hung herself from a hook in her closet.

Kara’s parents said “…. the damn doctor wouldn’t take her off it and I asked him to when we went in on the second visit. I told him I thought she was having some sort of reaction to Paxil…”).

Gareth Christian, Vancouver, age 18, was on Paxil when he committed suicide in 2002, (Gareth’s father could not accept his son’s death and killed himself.)

Julie Woodward, age 17, was on Zoloft when she hung herself in her family’s detached garage.

Matthew Miller was 13 when he saw a psychiatrist because he was having difficulty at school. The psychiatrist gave him samples of Zoloft. Seven days later his mother found him dead, hanging by a belt from a laundry hook in his closet.

Kurt Danysh, age 18, and on Prozac, killed his father with a shotgun. He is now behind prison bars, and writes letters, trying to warn the world that SSRI drugs can kill.

Woody ____, age 37, committed suicide while in his 5th week of taking Zoloft. Shortly before his death his physician suggested doubling the dose of the drug. He had seen his physician only for insomnia. He had never been depressed, nor did he have any history of any mental illness symptoms.

A boy from Houston, age 10, shot and killed his father after his Prozac dosage was increased.

Hammad Memon, age 15, shot and killed a fellow middle school student. He had been diagnosed with ADHD and depression and was taking Zoloft and “other drugs for the conditions.”.

Matti Saari, a 22-year-old culinary student, shot and killed 9 students and a teacher, and wounded another student, before killing himself. Saari was taking an SSRI and a benzodiazapine.

Steven Kazmierczak, age 27, shot and killed five people and wounded 21 others before killing himself in a Northern Illinois University auditorium. According to his girlfriend, he had recently been taking Prozac, Xanax and Ambien. Toxicology results showed that he still had trace amounts of Xanax in his system.

Finnish gunman Pekka-Eric Auvgovinen, age 18, had been taking antidepressants before he killed eight people and wounded a dozen more at Jokela High School – then he committed suicide. Asa Coon from Cleveland, age 14, shot and wounded four before taking his own life. Court records show Coon was on Trazodone.

Jon Romano, age 16, on medication for depression, fired a shotgun at a teacher in his New York high school.

And these are just the ones we know about!!!

So why is the government not imposing a ban on anti-depressants (SSRIs)?

Let us not forget that the WBC also actively protests against homosexuality . . . and let us not forget those who have committed suicide because of the anti-homosexuality sentiment that is running wild in our country. We all agree that something needs to change. With all the talk about WBC I have yet to hear anyone chime in about this. They do, after all, claim that this massacre was "God's" punishment for accepting homosexuals in our society. (Paraphrased but basically it.) It's time to accept every facet of our society and stop the hatred. Otherwise this behavior will continue.

Hey live and let live. I have never really agreed with homosexuality as being natural or normal. Thats just my opinion and I have a right to my opinion. But I would never ever try to impose my self upon what two people do behind their own doors in their own home. It`s simply none of my business

Ya know maggie its so sad these children today being put on meds. I see it all around me and have had terrible fights with my kids over my grand kids. Back in the day we called these kids that were a little hyper. " busy" " He`s just a little busy we would say. hahaha That meant that one had to be worked with more that's all. He was the one you had to let catch just one more fish or slide down the hill just one more time . You had to tucker them out. They grew out of it with no drugs needed. The problem now is parents just wont take the time that needed to straighten them out. It`s a real shame. And if your wondering no my grandchildren are drug free. although at times I don't really know who`s tiring out who.

It's time to accept every facet of our society and stop the hatred. Otherwise this behavior will continue.

I believe that will be easier said than done.

Turn on the idiot box or daytime talk radio, nothing but hate.

Look what they've done to the word liberal. Wanna be nasty to a fellow poster? Call him or her a liberal. Never mind the great Thomas Jefferson was a liberal.

Muslims? They're all extremist sending their children out on suicide missions.

G@ys? All perverts wanting to get their hands on your children.

The PTB want to divide us so we're not so strong.

The PTB want to scare us so we are easier to control.

I agree with you there but that's what we're here for! That and the dinar, I suppose, though after sitting on some of that for a while I'm everything but enchanted with it! I do find it funny that this thread calmed down with the mention of homosexuals. Everyone hates WBC until we recognize that the WBC is primarily an anti-homosexual group then suddenly the thread falls silent. Or perhaps that isn't the case. Peculiar, regardless. . .

Except Dog of course, but he's cool, even if I don't agree with him on most things!

Lostenso, your right about the responses falling silent about the homosexual part of this thread.

As I said before I am at a loss for solutions right now but I will try to respond to your original post...

This has NOTHING to do with homosexuals! NOTHING!

It is sick to even try to connect them to what happened in Newtown.

I was hoping this was the rantings and threats from one demented woman.

Just couldn't imagine that she would actually have others who would support those beliefs. I guess I was wrong.

I agree with Anomynous... these people need to be told "NO"!!!

It does seem strange to "fight" hate but I don't see any other way to get them stopped. Like Desmo said... their (WBC) "freedom of speech rights" come with a responsibility to not hurt others or breed the kind of hate that is bringing our society to it's knees. At least Anomynous is Non-Violent in their methods.

In my earlier post I also mentioned my disagreement about saying "God is NOT being "allowed" in schools"...

It is grasping at an attempt to connect all the ill's of the world to one's agenda to raise fear and manipulate.

That doesn't work... Lies, Fear and Hate will never solve anything.

I would like to take back something I said in my earlier post about needing to bear arms to protect ourselves from a corrupt government. Yes I do believe our government is corrupt... but I do not believe that we need assault weapons to be safe from them. They actually will harm us more than the guberment ever will. I don't pretend to have the solutions, but I do know that hate and assault weapons will not part of them.

I know Dog... that will just be something we will have to "peacefully" disagree on. I will say you have been more level headed about this than I would have thought under the circumstances. I have admired many of your views lately, such as your last reply about the kids and drugs. I appreciated that Dog, Thank You.

A dear friend of mine brought me some clearity about this and I'd like you to see what he said...

"People are trying to use the Constitution to keep assault weapons in the hands of the public - in essence.

Our grandfathers showed us how to use shotguns and hunting rifles to provide and protect our families. Assault type of weapons have no space in society. Destroying them is a piece of the equation just as any extraordinary weapon of destruction. How different are they than dynamite, nitro, or a bomb? These products allow little, if any, time for a defendant to respond or protect themselves.

Folks are still using the fear factor that these guns are needed to protect themselves from the GOVERNMENT. They relate to Hitler's regime when several countries have successfully addressed assault weapons. With history as a reference, neither the military, federal or local forces would collectively bare arms against the general public.

People of the U.S. are still on guard as if they are one of the 13 colonies that fought and won their freedom from England".

He makes sense... don't you think?

Thank You all for sharing your views and allowing me to share mine. I truly hope that we will take some time and really work together to find viable solutions that we can agree on, and then be advocates for a better US.

We can make a difference...
