On a recent visit to San Diago,Ca. I ran into a young Marine while checking into my Motel room. He was there with his pretty young girl friend and her family. He had graduated from Basic just that day. He was in civilian clothes, but I could tell he was a Marine by the way he carried himself, his sidewall haircut,and his clean shaven sunburned face. I asked him if he had just graduated from basic and he said"yes sir". I asked him if I could shake his hand and he came over to me. We shook and he said "thank you sir." What's this story all about? Well, nothing really, only that I was proud to shake that young mans hand and wish him good luck. That was almost a year ago. I wonder where he is now.
