Letting logic be our guide, if a load of bread costs 1,000 Dinars now and they roll out LD's and keep the value the same; instead of paying for the bread with a 1,000 IQD note (one piece of paper) Mohammed Schmo would have to pay with one thousand 1's? Doesn't make sense and that's certainly no way to encourage the folks to use the LD's and definitely no was to de-dollarize Iraq. Without an increase in purchasing power (LD's) it would be perfectly stupid to expect anyone to use them in any transaction. Just an observation.

Adam, it's not necessary to waste your time creating a new forum. To answer your question, you'd have to be very quick. Once the rv is made public I'd say immediately jump on eBay and hit every Buy it Now on diners provided the price is right. Sure you'd be taking a gamble on thier authenticity but who cares at that point.

I've thought about this before myself...if they rolled out a new currency (which they can legally do in 2013) and tell us our IQD is worthless. Sure they'd piss off a bunch of speculators living across the world, but would they really care? Fact is that they still have the oil. And of course oil is traded in USD not IQD. Is it really plausible that the nations of the world will unite and boycott Iraqi oil because they screwed some currency speculators? Really now? Iran is not an example because their oil is still purchased by the West through proxy companies and nations.

I remember last year from January thru February...the budget was all the rage. "How can they pass a budget without an RV" "How can they run a country with a worthless currency" "The budget will be the trigger for the RV" etc, etc, etc...... I remember it vividly because I was caught up in the frenzy myself and believed the hype. Well...as we saw in Feb. '11...they did in fact pass a budget with a worthless currency. Benchmarks, laws, dates...they mean nothing as this 4 pip move demonstrated. The revaluation (if they decide to do one) will happen when the good Doctor feel like it. I quit watching. I'll check XE on the phone a couple times a week. Read a few posts on DV. Nothing more than that. No point really. I cannot force Dr. S to do anything. And reading and analyzing and hypothesizing isn't going to make a potential RV happen any faster either.

I found it interesting that the rate was changed like a thief in the night. No media announcements (until after the fact); just...done. Also neat was how there was NO Ch 7 removal and NO HCL , and NO Parliamentary/GOI permissions & debate needed, No Gazette articles, etc... Just goes to show that all these benchmarks we set (CH 7, HCL, budget, etc...) means nothing compared to the fact t that it is truly Shabibi's call and he can do whatever he feels. Sure this was only a 4 pip move...however it is the fact that it was done arbitrarily that's noteworthy.
