Although government operations have continued during the eight months since the election, the price of the stalemate is being felt on the streets, as evidenced by a statement on Sunday by Osama al-Najafi, the new speaker of Parliament, that said he had received a letter from the government admitting it no longer had enough money to make welfare payments to widows, the unemployed and other needy Iraqis.

He said Iraq would not be able to resume that aid until a new budget was passed.

Sounds like they are broke and look who is the first to suffer!! It's the ones that are suffering already!! WOW!! :(

Can anyone say we're really surprised by this? Corrupt indifference by an inept leadership has led to this. At least the IMF cut them off untill they RV, maybe that will put some fire under their asses to actually get this done. Otherwise, next stop civil uprising!!

At least they know when they are out of money. All of our government officials, congressmen, senators and any lawmaker here in the USA, should be mandated to take a one hour class on balancing a checkbook. Effective immediately, or we will all be out on the street!

Good article. Now take the intel from IMF and what they are proposing for Iraq. No RV no more Money!!! IMF sanctions may get these guys moving again and to closure. RV is going to happen soon otherwise there will be a fire fight.
