k98nights
Iraqi government formed, impasses ended Thursday, November 11th 2010 6:14 PM Erbil, Nov. 11 (AKnews) - The president of Iraq's Kurdistan region says Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and President Jalal Talabani will retain their posts, ending the country's political impasse. Massoud Barzani said on Thursday that former prime minister Iyad Allawi of Iraqiya Alliance would also head Iraq's Council of Strategic Policy. Iraqi political parities reached an agreement in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad late on Wednesday to resolve the country's power vacuum. The war-wrecked country has not had a government since the country's inconclusive general elections in March. Barzani also noted that the deal is based on Iraq's Constitution, adding that all the decisions about the power-sharing deal have been made inside the country. The president of Iraq's Kurdistan region also announced that the country's new cabinet will be formed within a month. Iraqi lawmakers are expected to choose a parliament speaker from Iraqiya on Thursday. SuperFlyJr
I keep reading all these posts that the agreement has been reached but no official notification that parliament has actually voted to finalize it. Last I heard they were on another break!

They are making progress. I hope the momentum continues.

GO RV!!
The thing to keep in mind is WE are watching from the outside as we post on here LIVE... THEY are staying late in session - which in itself is VERY unusual - however VERY positive that they want to stay late and take care of business while they are ALL there to do so... I feel much better with that than an announcement later of "We got a lot of things important done Today, but still have a couple small things to take care of..." Let's give them credit for staying LATE into the night to continue their progress towards forming a Government... Is it official? Yes. Can they stay late and still make more progress? Yes. I'm cool with them staying late to continue making GREAT and unprecedented progress for Iraq in the last 8 months, never mind YEARS in the waiting!!! - Fresh

sterns5048
Will definately be interewsting to see what the 'gurus' come up with now if we don't see an rv. What else could possibly hold a rv back if this gov't is formed... Only a short matter of time hopefully here as we re coming down the backstretch inching towards the finish line

Blackhawk Bob
That's the latest I've heard, too. Nujaifi has been officially voted in and formally announced as Speaker of Parliament (step 1), as per Al Jazeera live stream. Next, Maliki and Talabani will have to formally be voted in for their positions. Then they will be free to create the position for Allawi. Jikes .... Iraqiya bloc has just walked out prior to presidential vote when Nujaifi announced they would be progressing to the presidential vote.
