Iraqi Army captures 87 ISIS militants, liberates Mosul Water Plant

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (7:45 P.M.) – The Iraqi Armed Forces capitalized on recent gains along the Tigris River in Nineveh province by liberating the Water Plant northwest of Mosul. This facility supplies most of the northern city with water.

In addition, the Iraqi Army’s 16th Division, supported by the Abbas Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), expelled ISIS from the nearby village of Khawaja Khalil, on the eastern bank of the Tigris River near the Badush Dam.

Regrettably, a mass grave containing the corpses of over 500 Shi’ite prisoners executed back in 2014 was unearthed near the recently liberated Badush Prison.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Army’s Rapid Response Division and Counter-Terrorism Units pushed deeper inside the Risalah and Nablus neighborhoods in western Mosul. At least two ISIS suicide bombers targeted Iraqi troops inside the northern city on Saturday:

During today’s operations on the Mosul frontier, a total of 87 ISIS militants were captured alive, many of whom were accused of perpetrating the Badush Prison massacre.

On a separate frontline further south in the embattled country, the PMU repelled an ISIS attack on the village of Fathah, north of Baji. A military source claimed 15 ISIS militants were killed and 22 more injured on Saturday morning during the failed offensive.

If they keep the pressure on day and night they can wrap this up by the end of the month.  :twothumbs:

CF,  You are correct but I believe it will be done before EOM because a lot ISIS cowards have surrendered and unfortunately we do not see those numbers that often in articles.

Iraq Could Refuse UN Help Over IS Crimes Investigation

Iraq Could Refuse UN Help Over IS Crimes Investigation
LEEDS — The United Kingdom is currently going through a process of drafting a UN Security Council resolution aiming to establish rules for an investigation and prosecution of IS militants based on the crimes committed by them, Reuters reported.

The process, however, cannot be finalized, as the voting can only begin once Iraq has written an official confirmation letter to the Security Council approving the investigation.

International human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and Yezidi UN Goodwill Ambassador Nadia Murad who survived IS captivity and became a human rights activist called on the Iraqi government to approve the inquiry and send the confirmation to the UN Security Council as soon as possible.

The country however would decide how to begin the investigation on its own, said Iraq’s UN Ambassador Mohamed Ali Alhakim, according to Kurdistan24. He further refused the need of any help from the UN in regards to dealing with the investigation or the prosecution of the IS members. He said that the final decision about the offered help from the UN will be made by the Prime Minister of Iraq, Haider al-Abadi.

However, Clooney who represents Murad, revealed that there are other ways of collecting evidence about the crimes committed by IS, which does not involve or required the approval of Iraq. According to her, the 193 member General Assembly could organize a team dedicated to preserving evidence and preparing the cases or another way would be to simply refer the case to the International Criminal Court in Belgium.
