A Lesson in Humility

A son took his elderly father out for an evening dinner at a fine restaurant. His father being feeble and weak began eating his food and dropping it on his shirt and his pants and spilling very little when trying to get a drink of his tea. Other diners watching in disgust while this was going on talking to each other under their breaths while his son remained calm and carried on a conversation with his father not paying any attention to all the others.

After the father had finished his meal the son helped him to the restroom to cleanup him up a little, remove what food still stood on his clothes, comb his hair made sure his glasses were straight on his nose. When they came out the entire restaurant was watching them in dead silence not able to grasp how someone could embarrass themselves knowing that old man belonged at home.

The son paid the bill and started out the door helping his father who was so slow in walking when another man from in the middle of the restaurant stood up and shouted, "Son don't you think you left something back here", No, I don't think so said the son. Yes you did, a lesson for every son and hope for every father......All the others just hung their heads.

Caring for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors one can give back in appreciation......

So many people do not help their parents even though they are just feeble but in their right minds.

God expected us to care for our children and he expects us to care for our parents in return.

Thanks, Heavyduty. A poignant story to me as my wife cares for her 92 year old mother who is living with us. It is very trying at times, but my wife handles it beautifully.

BTW, we live at Lake Martin just  2-3 hours south of you. Merry Christmas !
