maybe a little synchronicity. I went in earlier this morning to that branch to see about my debit card. Its been a few months now and it still isn't ready for release. They said they are waiting for some kind of approval to make them all active. So I asked the rep what he thought about the dinar and he said that he didnt think there would be a change till next year and then he started talking about removing zeros as in lop. I was like well what about the recent articles that say they wont do that, he smiled and said well no one really knows. These guys are probably asked these questions several times a day. Yes...I agree with you. This train of thought is something I did when I researched How Iraq could do this. Yes we should take a look at our own US dollar and understand how does that work. Why couldn't the dinar be the same? We created the NID for them to use!! Under the present monetary policy Iraq is in, this person arguing about an RV not happening has a lot of facts on his side for now. But something has to change, it has been suggested they could monetize non liquid assets. Perhaps.... But seriously a lot of things don't add up such as the amount of attention and money spent by the U.S. on Iraq. There has to be a benefit to this that is a plus for our own economy or perhaps the real intent is to take down the united states and the rest of the world who depends on the dollar to back their own currency? Scary thoughts.... Sorry I have to drag conspiracy into this because it is ridiculous to think that we will just keep doing what we are doing in Iraq with no understanding of where we are going. I don't believe that but I can see a lot of times that's what they put out in the media...I believe there is a reason for everything. It's possible...didn't Maliki try putting the central bank under his own control and they were wanting to use money in the central banks reserves? Maybe by nature some of these politicians would rather sack Iraq and take all that they can rather then develop it into a strong country that most of us on these boards believe it can become. Froto, what techniques can the central bank use to remove money from the M2? Can they really just take in cash and burn it so to speak? Also so many people focus on the cash that cbi has to back and they don't include the M2 in their discussion. Whatever they have in their reserves to give the currency its value, has to be for everything M1 M2 whatever.... Right?

Yes Darin I absolutely agree that this would be the game changer if they were to monetize their assets and resources. In trying to understand the "how", I could only think of this as an idea but I don't have the technical knowledge of economic terms (not my field) and here you are alluding to this as being an option with this ch 8 for me this is fantastic! I didn't know about that! I have to dig for that. So their oil reserves comes into play and we know they have much more than that! I am of the opinion that under the current monetary policy, we are stuck and even with some kind of appreciation it could take forever. What you shared from Scooter could be the way... So if they monetize non-liquid assets as you described, re-structure their policy, introduce new denominations as they become relevant in value - remove large denominations over time (just the same as what we did with our large us dollar denoms) - all happening in sync with economic conditions and the overall development of their economy/country.... This can be gradual but at this same time maybe we won't be waiting for a super long time either. (But I'll wait as long as it takes...) I like this. Maybe they needed to deal with the inflation so they could keep the currency within 3 zeros....because if it got out of hand....6 zeros like turkey tsk tsk tsk ....lop Thank you Darin.

Even though my own thinking and opinion falls in line with the last 2 or 3 AC posts, I dont like the guy.... I don't want to be pumped but I don't need a negative slant on everything either and he hasn't always been 100%. He follows current events just like us, he just gets the news quicker probably because he's in iraq and we have to wait for it to be posted online. He may or may not be here working in Iraq in some special capacity like he claims...either way, whoop tee doo...do u think if he ever found out about something before it was officially announced he would leak it out? I don't think so.
