Time to get things in order for the Grand Opening for the 15th. Got a long laundry list of things to do;

1. Change all the prices in the merchant stores

2. Re-calibrate those ATM Machines.

3. Re-wire those banks so we can give live quotes to all of our customers

4. Get those american contractors in order.

5. Get the Prime minister ready to be announced.

6. Set the rate for the RV of the dinar (VERY HIGH).

Now y'all get to work. Its time to get things in order over there. Its go time

Unfortunately, it's just another weekend in the succession of 24 weekends of blah, blah, blah. They haven't even reached agreement on "candidates" for Prime Minister let alone having the ability to get one of them elected by the required majority of Parliament. Everyone seems to think that selecting the P.M. is the next and final step in forming a government, but in fact, "selecting" the candidates to "run" for the postion is just the FIRST step in what can be a long process. They haven't even met to elect a Speaker yet. After that they have 30 days in which to elect the Presidencies. The newly elected President (POR) then has 15 days to select the controversial "largest bloc" which then has 30 days to attempt to get their individual candidate for P.M. approved by a Parliamentary majority. If they are unable to get that candidate approved, the whole process starts over again with the next largest bloc.

Given their inability to agree on ANYTHING, it would seem unlikely that this will be a quick or simple process. It could happen fairly quickly, but we shouldn't hold our collective breath expecting it. The odds of getting either of these 3 candidates elected by a majority would appear to be a formidable task at this point. So, we wait, as usual. If seating the government is in fact a requirement for RV, would could be in for a much longer ride.

from your lips to GOD'S ears

RV or bust . no really

the cost (price) of goods will have to be lowerd if loaf of bread is 25000 iqd after rv it would have to be much lower

Incorrect..assume a loaf of bread is 25k dinar(20 usd) the price would not go down, just the amount of dinar needed to puchase that loaf(say at a rv of 1 usd=1dinar, then 20 dinar will purchase that same loaf of bread). Goods will still cost the same, the dinar however will purchase more of those same goods.

Totally agree. What I have not been able to find out is how the poor vendor will recoup the price of the bread YESTERDAY. Lets say he paid 20k for the bread on Thursday and then has to sell the bread for 1dinar on Friday. Just can't get my head around that one yet.

NO ONE GETS IT!!!

Foreign exchange rate modification does not change the "price" of non-imported goods. Purchasing power is increased for out of country goods. Period.

Cost of bread would only change if the cost to Make the bread is less from the import of wheat, etc....

The cost of changing camel-shoes on your camel's feet will not change.... ha ha

If an Iraqi decides to purchase I-tunes on the internet in USD and they own dinar, they will be able to purchase a whole bunch of "Frank Sinatra" songs compared with before the RV..... ha ha

An internal Iraqi RV would mean a redenomination - thus requiring submission of large bills for smaller bills that are worth more than before. Then and only then would all goods and services magically change and re-price over night.

People are soooooooooooooo confused. The iraqi people dont become rich in their own country from a "Foreign" exchange rate modification. Foreign means across country lines.

Hope this helps...
