DeSantis Rips Trump’s ‘Absurd’ Criticism Of Israel After Ex-President Calls Hezbollah ‘Very Smart’

Recommended Posts

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sharply rebuked former President Donald Trump’s criticism of Israel, after Trump called the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah “very smart” in a speech Wednesday and said Hamas never would have attacked Israel if the 2020 election wasn’t “rigged” against him.

DeSantis criticized the timing of Trump’s comments in a tweet shortly after his Florida speech concluded, calling it “absurd” that Trump would choose to “attack our friend and ally, Israel” after Hamas has killed more than 1,200 Israelis and 22 Americans since the attacks began Saturday.

DeSantis also called out Trump for what the Florida governor described as “praise” of Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group that has been engaging in combat with Israeli forces on the country’s northern border amid Israel’s war with Hamas.

Trump repeatedly said Hezbollah is “very smart,” suggesting Biden officials triggered Hezbollah by voicing concerns about an attack on northern Israel, while criticizing Israeli intelligence for failing to detect the attacks.

He also told a story he said he’s previously never disclosed before about how Netanyahu allegedly backed out of assisting the U.S. in its assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in 2020: “I’ll never forget that Bibi Netanyahu let us down,” Trump said, calling Netanyahu’s alleged move “a very terrible thing.”

Repeating his debunked claims that the 2020 election was “rigged” against him, Trump said the attack on Israel never would have happened if he were still in the White House.

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates called Trump’s comments “dangerous and unhinged.”

KEY BACKGROUND

Trump made the comments late Wednesday after largely ignoring the conflict in a speech in New Hampshire on Monday, in which he jumped between criticism of various topics, including the Wall Street Journal editorial board, transgender athletes and the New England Patriots. In Truth Social posts since the war began Saturday, Trump has joined other Republicans in criticizing the Biden Administration for releasing $6 billion in Iranian assets in a prisoner swap last month. Biden officials have rejected the claims as “misinformation” and have said the money can only be used for humanitarian purposes. Intelligence officials have yet to confirm if Iran was involved in the Hamas invasion, but its government has provided hundreds of millions of dollars in funding and weaponry to the militant group over the years.

TANGENT

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) also took the stage at Trump’s rally Wednesday night, agreeing with him that Trump would have prevented the attack if he were still in the White House, while blaming the Biden Administration’s predictable foreign policy stance. “President Trump was very unpredictable, and it kept everybody real polite,” Gaetz said.

Recognizing the intelligence of your enemies is important.

That does not mean you support them.

It means you understand what needs to be done to fight them.

Many instances in WW2 enemies read books and manuals of their countries counter parts.

They knew their enemies.

Some realized this and threw the book out and went outside of the box.
