The memorandum of understanding was signed at the Iranian Consulate in Basra Governorate, by the Director General of the Iraqi Railways Company and the Executive Director of the Iranian Railways Company. During the tour, the officials of the two countries inspected the border area of the project according to the maps approved between the two sides, which included the Shalamcheh border area in southwestern Iran, the new passenger station there and the path under study from this border to the Arvand River from the Iranian side and the two banks of the aforementioned river and its central part is "Sinbad Island". In Iraq, specifically the construction site of the bridge, in addition to the construction site of a new passenger station in Basra. The two sides agreed, after negotiations that lasted 6 hours, to determine the exact path for the passage of the railway line from Shalamcheh to the Arvand River, and to set a specific timetable for the operational operations of the railway link between Shalamcheh and Basra, including scheduling mine-clearance operations and the construction of railway infrastructure from Shalamcheh to Arvand (Shatt al-Arab in the Iraqi side), and handing over the land to conduct studies on the foundations of the bridge that will connect the two banks of the river.
