Washington responds to "Iranian threats" against officials in the Trump administration

Baghdad - people

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the Iranian government's threats against officials in the administration of former President Donald Trump are "unacceptable."

"I cannot go into details, we as Americans differ in our policy toward Iran and of course on other issues, but we are united in our determination against threats and provocations," Psaki said in a press conference on Tuesday.

She added, "We are united in defending our people and we will protect and defend our people, but I do not intend to go into details, and certainly we have heard disturbing public statements from the Iranian authorities about individuals in the previous US administration, even before their sanctions were announced at the end of the week, and this is unacceptable."

The US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, had warned Iran in a statement in response to the inclusion of 52 US citizens in the sanctions list for Tehran's claim of involvement in the assassination of the commander of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards, General Qassem Soleimani, saying, "Make no mistake, the United States protects its citizens."

Last Saturday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement announcing the imposition of sanctions on more than 50 American citizens, including senior officials in the Donald Trump administration, for their alleged participation in the assassination of Qassem Soleimani.

And in recent days, on the second anniversary of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, senior officials in Iran, including President Ebrahim Raisi and the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, General Esmail Ghaani, threatened to "retaliate against the officials of the Donald Trump administration."

"We will provide the land to take revenge on the Americans from inside their homes," Esmail Ghaani said in a speech from the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, adding, "Wherever it is necessary, we take revenge on the Americans from inside their homes and on the people next to them without being present."

And the Commander-in-Chief of the Revolutionary Guards, Major General Hossein Salami, said yesterday regarding the assassination of Soleimani, "We took part of the difficult revenge, and another part remains of it," adding, "American officials should know that it is not possible to attack a people and remain safe from their mutual retaliation."
