8th ID
See, in 1835 when General Santa Anna declared himself ruler of Mexico and Texas, he told the Texans in Gonzales, they could not keep the small cannon that was given to them for protection from indians. He was afraid of them being armed and that they might resist his rule. Santa Anna sent a small force to retrieve it. Well, when they arrived, the Texans had other ideas. They did not give up the cannon, and just like at Concord, the first shot of the Texas Revolution rang out. We still remember Gonzales, Goliad, the Alamo and The final victory for our independence at San Jacinto. So, I say let them “Come and Take It”! 2
