Baghdad / news

Iraqi political researcher Ghaleb Al-Shabandar affirmed that the "militias" belong to Iran and doctrinally, calling for them not to be justified as "patriotic and sacrificing."

"I do not know the stupidity of those who justify the fleeing militias with a long tongue that they are patriotic, sacrificing, and so on," Shabandar said in a tweet on his Twitter account.

He added: "These doctrinal and ideological belong to a major project that considers Iran the mother of Islamic villages, and by their tongue they say we are fighting where it is necessary to fight, and we are not under the command of Iraqi politicians. Educate ideological ideology then justify."

Militias in Iraq ... an American vision

-

%D8%B1%D8%A4%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A9.png

As tensions between the United States and Iran worsen after Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal in May 2018, tensions between American forces in Iraq and militias also escalated. Shiite militias have taken on a new role in Iraq since the assassination of the Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, in early January. As it tries to redraw the parameters of its future role in Iraq

The current reality says that the Shiite militia factions are mostly involved in the political process, and their leaders are deputies in the al-Ara Parliament as the League of the Righteous. The United States of America considers Shiite militias to serve Iran's interests more than those of Iraq. Washington specifically accuses the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades, one of those militias, of being behind repeated military strikes against American interests in Iraq.

Iranian-backed militias such as the "Hezbollah Brigades" are seeking to press for the removal of the US-backed coalition from Iraq by any necessary means, regardless of the coalition's contribution to the struggle against ISIS. Militias such as the "Hezbollah Brigades" sought to get rid of the international forces long before they killed an American militant on December 27, before they had received a blow on December 29, and before the United States killed two of its leaders, They are Iranian Maj. Gen. Qasim Soleimani and leader of an Iraqi militia, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, on January 3, in a drone strike in Baghdad.

The militias are now redoubling their efforts, which include issuing warnings to Iraqi officials and soldiers to distance themselves from the coalition (which they did not do). In recent months, the “Hezbollah Brigades” have threatened Iraqi lawmakers that they must vote to remove the American forces (and enough of them have resisted this call to prevent the quorum during the voting process), and threatened Iraqi President Barham Saleh if he met President Donald Trump in “ World Economic Forum ”(but he met Trump anyway).

The "Hezbollah Brigades" are also currently issuing statements objecting to some of the candidates for the position of the new prime minister to be appointed soon in Iraq, and she herself proposes the candidate to be chosen (the current Prime Minister Adel Abdel-Mahdi), and explicitly indicates how senior religious leaders should be taken In the country the ruling on the matter. All of this is an unprecedented ground in Iraq, especially the openness that characterizes threats, similar to the recent elections in Iran, where the regime prevented the nomination of more than 7000 people to parliament and canceled the authority of a third of the previous deputies in their bid for re-election.

In a recent American study issued last March that dealt with the future of Shiite militias, it concluded in its political split that there are three main points: First, the growth of Shiite militias must be frozen. If not, there is a risk that its downsides can develop very quickly beyond the ability to counteract it through a gradual process of security sector reform. Negative actors within the militia should not be allowed to create new facts on the ground. At this point, the militia's work, budget and institutional infrastructure remain limited, and the priority should be to freeze it at this level in order to preserve Iraq's options throughout the security sector reform process that extends from five to ten years.

Second, now is not the time - not for the interests of the United States or the coalition, nor for Iraqi interests - to try to fully resolve the major issues surrounding Shiite militias or make major decisions. Because of the tensions between the United States and Iran, Israel and Iran, and because of local Iraqi instability, more time will need to pass in order for issues to become less sensitive and to encourage a logical debate about the future of Shiite militias. Indeed, there is no politically viable alternative to an evolutionary and patient but resolute approach. International politics on Iraq must be based on reality.

Third, it is important for the majority of Iraqi and international actors to reach consensus on the two main issues facing the popular crowd. The first is the longer-term issue of competencies, basic functions, roles and tasks, by which force can be normalized, professionalized and rationalized. The second issue, just as important, is taking control of the affairs that have befallen Shiite militias in the period 2014-2019, led by Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the “Hezbollah Brigades” and their Iranian supporters. The killing of the engineer provided an opportunity. The excessive decentralization of power can be countered under a narrow clique of militia leaders.

The anti-government protests provided an opportunity for Shiite militias to test their influence in the country, and some militias were openly involved in suppressing the protests. Its opposition to the protests is likely to stem from its belief that it represents a major threat to its new influence and power. Its influence grew after the war against the terrorist organization ISIS, and it hoped to consolidate itself in Iraqi society after that. But the protests reflected the aspirations of the younger generation, who wanted a comprehensive change in the system.

With the growing specter of social and political turmoil in Iraq, Shiite militias have important decisions to make regarding their future, as they are likely to choose to continue to direct a wave of popular anger against the United States over their role in Iraq.

The Shiite militias are associated with prominent religious and political leaders, and they now play a major role in many aspects of Iraqi civil society. The role played by some militias in suppressing the protests, and its attempt to force US forces to leave the country and influence the appointment of a new prime minister, reveals that it has become a central force in Iraq's political and security architecture.

Ultimately, the militias can extend their influence into a force similar to the Revolutionary Guards in Iran. Simultaneously, it should decide whether to pursue a more independent course or whether it will continue to implement policies that serve Iran's interests. This point will be crucial, because if the militias remain a mirror that reflects Tehran’s regional agenda, this will make them confront a large segment of the Iraqi people, and this may prompt them to enter into a conflict with the United States or other groups in Iraq.

A former Iraqi minister unveils Iran's role in blocking a solution to the electricity crisis

%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82-5-3

BAGHDAD - After the fall of the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s regime, successive Iraqi governments did not hesitate to bow to Iran's dictates, which have been continuously interfering in Iraqi affairs and deepened their roots within the pillars of the authority and its institutions through the Shi’ite parties loyal to them to share the power pie and tamper with the security and capabilities of Iraq and adapt them in favor of service Iranian project in the region.

The flame of the uprising that started in October 2019 was launched against the spread of corruption in the country and the deterioration of the living and economic situation in Iraq, after the federation of Iraqis fed up with the performance of the governments that failed to provide the simplest essentials of decent living in a country still suffering from an acute electricity crisis, was exacerbated with corruption. And mismanagement.

The statements of the former Iraqi Electricity Minister in the government of Haider al-Abadi, Minister Qasim al-Fahdawi, came to reinforce the extent of the failure of Iraqi politicians to ensure the interests of citizens by submitting to the dictates of Iran and giving their interests first, at the expense of the interests of the Iraqis.

And the former Iraqi Electricity Minister Qasim al-Fahdawi accused Iran’s parties in Iraq and their militias of exploiting the deteriorating conditions in the country and working for Iran.

Al-Fahdawi revealed in a television interview that Iranian pressure had been exerted on the government of Haider al-Abadi to cancel a deal that Saudi Arabia offered to Iraq, which included providing Riyadh with the gas needed by Baghdad at prices lower than international prices.

Al-Fahdawi, who served as the Minister of Electricity in the government of Haider al-Abadi during the period 2014-2018, confirmed that he had received an offer to help by phone call from the Saudi Energy Minister at the time, saying that the latter pledged to provide gas as needed by Iraq, and that he would arrive within 24 hours from Kuwait, Within 6 days, shipments arrive from Saudi Arabia, in addition to sending a team from Aramco to work in Iraq, and extracting the gas and selling it for 7 and a half cents. ”

Al-Fahdawi pointed out to the Iranian role in thwarting the offer, stressing that the prime minister at the time agreed to the offer, and that the travel date for the queen was agreed to sign the agreements, but the travel was canceled and the offer was rejected a day before it was signed, due to the Iranian pressure exerted to subdue Iraq and keep it under its control.

"Do we sacrifice the interest of Iraq in order to please Iran?" Al-Fahdawi asked.

Iraq suffers from a major problem and a chronic shortage of electricity, and therefore relies heavily on Iranian gas and oil, despite the US sanctions imposed on Iran.

Officials justify that Iraq’s reliance on Iran is compelling because the country does not have enough generating capacities to cover the growing demand for electricity.

"Bribery of clerics" ... A report exposes Iran's history in Iraq and predicts a grim future for Tehran

000_1K663F.jpg?itok=2uDCWTLo

April 12, 2020

It seems that the Iranian Shiite ambitions in Iraq did not begin after the Islamic revolution in 1979, but years earlier. This is revealed by documents dating back to 1965 from the Israeli National Archives.

The documents were written by the Israeli representative in Tehran at the time, Meir-Azri, after meeting with the new Iranian ambassador in Baghdad, Mehdi Berashta. According to a report published by the Atlantic Council.

The documents say that the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad during this period reported on his activities among Iraqi Shiites.

He said that this included a weekly visit to the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, providing bribes to Iraqi clerics and encouraging them to visit the Iranian embassy and consulates in Iraq.

The Atlantic Council report, a think tank based in Washington, DC, says Iran's regional ambitions, as well as its nuclear program, did not begin with the Islamic revolution in 1979. Moreover, political turmoil in the Arab world since 2011 has opened only new opportunities for Iran to expand Its influence in the region by taking advantage of the weaknesses of Arab countries.

He adds that the gains the Syrian regime has achieved - with the help of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Russia - and the defeat of ISIS Iraqi forces, have provided Tehran with more opportunities to expand its hold on Syria and Iraq.

A bleak picture of Iran's ambition

Despite all this, the report paints a bleak picture of Tehran's situation in the region, and says that every month that passes, Iran loses its grip on the region, mainly due to the sanctions imposed by the administration of President Donald Trump on Tehran that hit the terrorists severely and severely restricted "Iran's military adventures" In the region, according to the report.

The report states that Israel's success in preventing Iran from establishing itself in Syria and strengthening Hezbollah's military arsenal has also had a role in weakening Iranian influence in the region.

This was followed by popular demonstrations in Lebanon and Iraq, which indicated that "Iran is losing the Middle East." Then the November 2019 protests took place in Iran, which raised hope that the regime could change.

As for the assassination of Qasim Soleimani, head of the Quds Force in January, with an American strike, it was a strong blow to Iran's plans for regional control.

The report points to the Corona virus as the latest supposed threat to Iran's regional hegemony, as it is seen as contributing to slowing down Iran's malign activities across the Middle East.

The presence of Russia, the United States, and Turkey in Syria also limits Iran's ability to enhance its influence in Syria, according to the report.

In addition, Iran's extensive interference in the internal affairs of Baghdad, Damascus, and Beirut has sparked growing political and public opposition in the Arab world.

Iran's huge investments outside its borders, at the expense of dealing with the problems of its citizens, have led to more internal criticism in Iran, which reinforced hope that the regime could fall.

The Corona crisis has come to Iran at a very difficult time for it. The United States’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement and the reimposition of sanctions have exacerbated Iran's problems, pushing the Iranian economy into an unprecedented crisis.

The recent sharp drop in oil prices due to the oil price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia has exacerbated the economic difficulties facing Iran.

The killing of the Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani dealt a severe blow to Iran's ability to achieve its strategic goals in the Middle East, at least in the short term, according to the report.

Nevertheless, the Atlantic Council report indicates that Iran still has the ability to stand still and turn its points of opportunity into survival opportunities, and even increase its influence by adapting its strategies to meet new challenges.

Re-evaluation

The report says that recent Iranian activity in Iraq amid escalating tension between American forces and pro-Iranian Shiite militias, as well as political developments in Baghdad, indicates that Tehran is re-evaluating its tasks and adjusting its way of working in a way that allows it to achieve its interests such as forcing the United States to withdraw from Iraq.

On April 9, Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Adnan Al-Zarfi announced his withdrawal from the role of forming a new government after strong resistance from Iranian-backed political parties, accusing him of being an "American agent".

Accordingly, Iraqi President Barham Salih appointed the head of Iraqi intelligence, Mustafa al-Kazimi, as prime minister.

In the past few weeks, Iran has continued its efforts to influence the process of forming the new government in Iraq, in light of its concerns about the possibility of al-Zarfi to succeed in forming a new government.

One thing is certain, according to the report, that al-Kazemi is not the person the Iranians want to see as prime minister of Iraq. But when Tehran was forced to choose between it and Zarrafi, the Iranians managed to unite the main political forces in Iraq against the politician who is seen as the greatest threat to their interests.

This time, Qassim Soleimani has not implemented Iran's efforts to successfully influence the political process in Iraq. Rather, it was implemented by Secretary of the Supreme Council for Iranian National Security, Ali Shamkhani, who visited Baghdad last month and met Al-Kazemi. And the new commander of the Quds Force, Ismail Qaani, who visited Baghdad last week.

Iran has certainly faced many challenges at home and abroad, but just as its regional influence is not diminishing so quickly, its system or economy is not likely to collapse very soon, according to the Atlantic Council report.

Complex country

The report stresses that Iran is a complex country with a long history and a diverse set of strengths.

It is precisely for this reason that it needs a sober and responsible analysis on the basis of existing assertions, rather than adopting disturbing methods that ignore its weaknesses, according to the report.

04/12/2020 10:55:09

US President Donald Trump announced that he will issue a declaration next week regarding US funding for the World Health Organization, after he had recently threatened to stop it.

"As you know we've given them almost $ 500 million a year, and we're going to talk about it next week. We'll have a lot to say about this," Trump said at a White House news conference. He added that he would announce "sometime in the next week." Trump launched a scathing attack on the World Health Organization, of which Washington is the main financier, accusing it of bias towards China during the new Corona virus epidemic, which started in Wuhan late last year.

The State Department said the world body had not taken the necessary seriously with the information it had received from Taiwan about the virus. Vice President Qin Chen Jin said that Taiwan, which managed to limit the virus to only 5 deaths, despite the island's proximity and its ties to China, the World Health Organization on December 31 warned of the virus being transmitted from person to person.

On Friday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said the US comments were "distorting the facts" and were politically motivated to divert attention from the outbreak, according to the official Xinhua News Agency. And Friday, the World Health Organization denied that it had received an early warning from Taiwan about the transmission of the new coronavirus between humans and its neglect, after the outbreak of the disease in China.

Iran: The International Monetary Fund does not belong to America

Iran: The International Monetary Fund does not belong to America

Follow up / Tomorrow Press:

Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabie said Monday that America has no right to use its veto against the decisions of the International Monetary Fund, noting that the rest of the fund’s members will prevent any step taken by Washington.

Rabei said in press statements that "obtaining a loan from the International Monetary Fund is one of the rights of the Iranian people, who are exposed to double pains, represented by the American sanctions that threaten the lives of Iranian citizens and the Corona virus, which constitutes a threat to the lives of peoples in the world.

He added, "The United States is not in a legal position to prevent international institutions from carrying out their tasks."

"The United States should realize that international institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, do not own them," the spokesman said. "We believe that the International Monetary Fund must make its own decisions independently of granting Tehran the loan."

And he stated that "we have always paid our membership fees in the fund and we have not requested any loan for the past years, but we submitted an application based on the conditions caused by the Corona virus, and we are sure that the IMF decision will take into account humanitarian affairs."

Rabiei noted that "any decision to lift the restrictions inside Iran was taken based on the views of experts," noting that "work in factories and government departments will be based on following health protocols codified, and that the monitoring bodies will supervise the education and application of health protocols in the workplace." .

Iranian newspapers reveal the conditions of Tehran to pass Al-Kazemi

image.php?token=93ae197f6ba20572b8a00723c4434d7b&c=9149883&size=

Baghdad / news

Tehran has started to lay down conditions for the Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Al-Kazemi to welcome his appointment, and then to refer to ties between the two countries that compel him to abide by them.

Iranian officials have expressed their happiness with the appointment of Mustafa Al-Kazemi as the new prime minister in Iraq, and Tehran has officially welcomed him in his new position, although it politically calculates him on the United States, while Iraqi military organizations close to the Revolutionary Guard accuse him of involvement in the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Jerusalem Regiment.

But Tehran’s need for Iraq, led by Kazemi, prompted Abbas Mousavi, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, to say that his country “welcomes the agreement of Iraqi political parties to appoint Kazemi as prime minister and considers it a step in the right track.”

Iran's ambassador to Iraq, Ijaj Masjidi, also announced similar feelings about Al-Kazemi, stressing that Tehran would support him to form the government.

Mustafa Al-Kazemi, is the head of the Iraqi National Intelligence, and the third Iraqi prime minister to form a government after the resignation of Adel Abdul-Mahdi last December, due to anti-government protests, the apology of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, and Adnan Al-Zorfi’s withdrawal.

Al-Kazemi is mainly supported by the Marjaiya in Iraq, which Iran rejects, but Zrafi's mandate and his declaration that he would prevent illegal weapons prompted Tehran to agree to a solution that it considered less bad for her and her followers.

The leader of the "Quds Force" of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Ismail Qazani, visited Iraq before the Shiite parties were nominated for Al-Kazemi, and Iraqi officials, including leaders of the Al-Hikma movement, stressed that Qahni touched in his meetings with Iraqi officials on the need to agree on a new prime minister.

Newspapers, official and semi-official news agencies in Iran dealt with the appointment of Al-Kazemi with great interest, and Tasnim News, predicted “guaranteed guaranteed Al-Kazemi” in forming the government, after the Shiite political blocs agreed to his appointment.

As for the main condition that Tehran is trying to pass through Kazemi, it is to persuade the United States to fully open the Iraqi borders to import and export, in order to reduce the impact of the sanctions, while the Iranian "Mehr News" agency also wrote that "Al-Kazemi can play a role in reducing tension between Tehran and Washington in Iraq." ".

The agency said in an article that some in Iraq accused al-Kazimi of "not fulfilling his duties" when the commander of the Quds Force Qassem Soleimani and deputy chief of the Popular Mobilization, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, was killed in Baghdad, and justified this by saying that "Kazemi was unaware of the incident."

According to the semi-official agency, Al-Kazemi is well aware of the "cultural and religious ties between Iran and Iraq, and Iran's assistance to Iraq in overcoming its crises."

I'm thinking if Iran ever slips up an allows Iraq to install a real PM an call for early elections their influence in Iraq is over.

Report: Iraq activists mobilize post-epidemic

image.jpeg.5034ed35e249cb36b378a66e8c9d3969.jpeg

13th April, 2020

Iraqi movement groups are active these days in promoting a new round of protests against the authority and its parties after completing the problem of the Corona virus and limiting its spread. In the context of this endeavor, activists launched a hashtag, promising to revert the revolution, and established electronic groups through social media, especially Facebook, promising the return of the revolution in the near future.

The Waad group, which returns the electronic revolution, in less than a week, won the admiration and support of more than 32 thousand activists, along with other groups, such as support the revolution, going back to the square, a descendant taking my right, and I also received varying levels of follow-up and admiration. The Corona variable, which forced many to flee to their homes and leave the protest grounds, caused a severe shock among activists who put all their hopes for the possibility of radical political transformations in the country that the "October Revolution" could have achieved. According to a report published by the newspaper".

It seems that, in order to face this shock, the movement groups have, for days, been working to "renew their hopes" by promoting the return of protests in the next stage, by publishing photos and videos of the events and victims of the protests that started last October and lasted for about 5 Months, and some of its manifestations are still visible in the different arenas, as the tents of the protesters in Tahrir Square in Baghdad and the rest of the arenas are still standing, and there are few numbers of protesters, in a clear indication of the protesters' adherence to their demands, and their insistence to remain, in the hope of completing the virus stage Lethal, returning to the atmosphere of protest Gat again. Activists, during the campaign to promote the upcoming supposed protests, talk about new methods and mechanisms for the protest action, which go beyond past mistakes that occurred, including the lack of a unified leadership, transcending the differences between the movement groups, and not allowing their exploitation by some parties and parties for narrow political goals.

Activist Mohammed Salman does not rule out that "the upcoming protests are aimed at displacing the regime and not negotiating with its representatives in any way." "It has become clear to the movement groups that whenever they engage in dialogue with the authorities, she insists on messing around and procrastinating the demonstrators' demands," he said. To early elections, as the protest movement demands." And he confirms: "We will urge millions of Iraqis to go out to the squares." As for the activist Hassan Abdel Karim, he believes that "the movement groups seek to draw more than one scenario in the next stage; toppling the regime is not easy, we lost thousands of victims in the past months, and we must be more careful in the next stage, but we are determined to continue, and we have launched a hashtag (Promise returns the revolution) for this." "One of the possible scenarios is that we present our stated demands to the Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Al-Kazemi, in the event of the formation of the government, and we are waiting for what he can do about it," says Abdul Karim. And Abdul Karim, a graduate student at the College of Administration and Economics at Al-Mustansiriya University, was forced to leave the requirements for obtaining a master’s degree about 6 months ago and joined the protest movement. He asserts: "Since that date, I have not seen my family members, and I am still present in Tahrir Square, despite the embargo and the dangers of Corona; I will not give up my dream of a homeland befitting us and a decent life." And on the details of daily life in Tahrir Square with a curfew imposed, he says: "There are up to a thousand protesters; some tents have a population of more than ten, and some are less than that.

Regarding the fumigation and sterilization operations that they perform for tents and other places in Tahrir Square, Abdel Karim confirms: “We carry out daily fogging campaigns for tents and yard. With personal efforts, we formed a volunteer team that we called (first responders), which includes 3 volunteer doctors and other medical personnel, and this team is doing Great efforts are made to keep tents clean and defective, and all medical supplies are obtained by our own efforts." And on the building of the Turkish restaurant in Tahrir Square, which has become one of the most important icons of the Iraqi protests, and it was called Mount Uhud in the first month of the protests, Abdel Karim confirms that it is free from the protesters, and that it was left by the followers of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, who deliberately controlled it at some point. Their latest struggle with the Harak movement last February.

To combat Corona ... the major powers are moving to support an international call for a comprehensive truce in the world

%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%84-300x170.j

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he agreed with the leaders of the United States, China and Britain to support the call of the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for a global truce, to focus on confronting the Corona virus, and Moscow said it was studying the proposal.

In radio statements, Macron revealed that US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson all confirmed their support for a call made by Guterres on March 23 for a global truce.

The French President added that he will speak in the coming hours with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, expressing his belief that Putin will agree to the call for a truce, to be announced in an official, strong and effective manner soon.

In Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday, "It is clear that the work is continuing. The diplomats are working. Once the work is completed and we agree with the partners, statements will be issued in this regard."

Last Saturday, the United Nations envoys called for an immediate cease-fire in the countries of the Middle East, and they urged all warring parties to leave hostilities, and renewed previous full-time calls to confront the Corona virus.

The United Nations envoys to the Middle East issued a joint statement calling for activating the invitation of the United Nations Secretary-General, launched on 23 March last, to focus on the "real battle", in reference to confronting the Corona virus.

These moves come four days after a joint statement was signed by UN envoys to Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon and the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, in which they called the warring parties in the region to take steps to negotiate an immediate cessation of hostilities, maintain the current ceasefire, and act With the United Nations to stop the spread of Corona.

Guterres has called for a global truce, warning of the collapse of the health system in countries suffering from wars and targeting the remaining medical personnel in combat operations.
