Pitcher
The Iraqi Commission of Integrity said yesterday it had referred 11 former ministers to court on charges of corruption in 2018. Commission Chairman, Ezzat Tawfiq Jafar, said at a press conference that the Commission had processed 12,398 cases in 2018 of which 8,938 had been completed. He pointed out that 3,070 defendants were referred to the judiciary during 2018, including 11 ministers and 156 senior officials including general managers. The Commission is linked to parliament and investigates corruption in official circles. According to Transparency International, Iraq is among the world’s most corrupt countries. Financial and administrative corruption have undermined the Iraqi state, whose population still suffers from lack of public services including electricity, health and education despite receiving tens of billions of dollars a year from the oil revenues. https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190219-report-iraq-referred-11-ex-ministers-to-court-on-graft-charges-in-2018/ 1 1
Pitcher
This is an old article from Oct 17th. Why didn’t Sadr follow thru with his threat. Shia leader threatens to investigate former Iraqi prime minister for corruption October 17, 2018 at 12:53 pm | Published in: Iraq, Middle East, News Iraqi Vice President and leader of the State of Law coalition, Nouri Al-Maliki [File photo] October 17, 2018 at 12:53 pm The Iraqi Shia cleric and prominent political leader Muqtada Al-Sadr has threatened to investigate former Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki for corruption Sadr’s Spokesman Sheikh Salah Al-Obeidi said the “thieves” would be held accountable, in addition to Al-Maliki’s men, “who brought back the thieves to Iraq and covered up their corruption”. “The abundance of corruption crimes during the past years does not mean that crimes committed against the Iraqis would be abandoned,” he announced. The spokesman concluded: “There is a lot to reveal in the coming days.” These remarks came after a tweet posted by the head of the National Movement for Development and Reform party, Jamal Al-Karbouli, in which he called for the people who preach morals to teach themselves before teaching others. The veiled comment was directed at Al-Sadr after he launched an appeal calling for people to ignore the sectarian partition of the government and allowing the designate prime minister to choose technocrats for his government. https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20181017-shia-leader-threatens-to-investigate-former-iraqi-prime-minister-for-corruption/ 5

Pitcher
Thanks Benelli. I don’t get reds. If you don’t like someone or something give a reason and we can hash it out. I could care less about receiving a red ruby but I do care about intellectual laziness or being a coward. We have some intellectual lazy people in this room. 1

Remember a year or more ago, Abadi (then still PM) said he was going to post names of 500 politician thieves by year end. Nothing ever came of that either. Though they may be slow in processing charges, these folks are the little fish. They have plenty of dirt on Al-Maliki. Start with him. Go big, or go home.
