Old-Guard Republicans to Push Carbon Tax at White House Meeting

Recommended Posts

The President is going to have to stand strong against this scam. He also needs to consider getting rid of the

"old guard" of his party if he wants to succeed. Look at the names...many from Bush Jr. admin. His own party is

proving to be his greatest challenge, but he has the guts to tell them NO to their distractions.

I hope he is not convinced to make this bogus trade off.  It is a scam and they know it. Does anyone think something

like this will be handed over to "the people" to vote on?

  • Former White House advisers, cabinet secretaries pressing tax
  • Trump’s economic adviser Gary Cohn among scheduled attendees

A group of prominent Republicans and business leaders backing a tax on carbon dioxide were taking their case Wednesday to top White House aides, including chief economic adviser Gary Cohn.

The group, including former Treasury Secretaries Hank Paulson and James Baker, is pressing President Donald Trump to tax carbon dioxide in exchange for abolishing a slew of environmental regulations. They unveiled their plan with a press conference in Washington and an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal.

"We know we have an uphill slog to get Republicans interested in this," Baker said before heading to the White House. But "a conservative, free-market approach is a very Republican way of approaching the problem."

Other possible attendees at the meeting include the president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, who weighed climate change policy during the campaign, and Vice President Mike Pence.

The Republican and business leaders, calling themselves the Climate Leadership Council, lend their stature to an approach for addressing climate change that mirrors an idea already advanced by Exxon Mobil Corp. Supporters say the tax is a conservative solution to climate change that replaces a regulatory regime with a free-market approach for addressing the greenhouse gas emissions.

Wal-Mart Founder

Paulson, who served as Treasury secretary under President George W. Bush, previously has advocated a carbon tax through his eponymous think tank, the Paulson Institute. Baker, who served as secretary of state and Treasury secretary under two Republican administrations, as well as former Secretary of State George Shultz, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. founder Rob Walton and Sequoia Capital Operations LLC partner Thomas Stephenson, among others. Economic advisers to former presidents George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan also are involved in the effort.

"Climate change poses an unacceptable risk to our climate and to our economy," Paulson said in a statement. "Putting a price on carbon is by far the most efficient and effective way to restrict emissions."

Baker himself conceded he remains "somewhat of a skeptic about the extent to which man is responsible for climate change" but the "risks are too great to ignore."

The plan faces strong political headwinds; both Trump and a majority of the House of Representatives have come out against a carbon tax in the past year. Trump also has pledged to do away with environmental regulations limiting emissions of carbon dioxide

But the idea of a carbon tax, long favored by economists as the most straightforward way to address climate change, could gain traction as part of a broad tax overhaul on Capitol Hill.

Carbon Pricing Spreads Along With Debate About Payoff: QuickTake

The blueprint involves a $40 tax on every metric ton of carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels, with the price climbing over time. To avoid an undue burden on the poor from the higher energy bills that would result, the projected $200 billion to $300 billion in annual revenue would be redistributed to households in the form of quarterly checks from the Social Security Administration. Families of four would see an average annual payout of $2,000 under the plan.

The proposal also calls for border adjustments that would act to hike the costs of products imported from countries that do not put a price on carbon.

The President is definitely going to have to understand the difference betwixt RINOs and Reps to be sure there, JIM1...

RINO's... Globalist..., Illuminatis...  NWO / OWO tools....  moderate progressives... progressive conservatives... et al..

Trump has GOT to remove these vile moles from within his inner circle and banish them from the swamp.

The reason Jeb bush never stood a chance with The American People, is because HE is one of these cancerous rats.

true indeed girls, those moles are right inside of his cabinet, leaking everything from phone calls,

conversations, and various details that should not get out and he knows it. He also knows and already hates the

politics he has seen just in his first 3 weeks. He knows the fight he is up against, and he knows many within his own party are

his greatest challenge to overcome. I hope he realizes the majority of DC is that corrupt swamp,

and not just a few.

We hope he can stay the course and not get over-whelmed by it all.... we can well  imagine there are times when his very heart hurts more

than ever for the state of our Country now that he's gotten a good look into it's inner bowels.

Sure enough, and there are many surrounding him who will try their best to protect those inner bowels AND their

careers while they parade around acting like they support him. What a mess he faces, and we the people can do

little about it.

I often wish that the public, the people on both sides who are fighting against each other would understand their problems stem from

their own parties corruption and would unite together to stop DC politics instead of turning on each other. Once the people turn on each

other as they are now, our republic will degrade quickly as it is now. Poor guy has to deal with at least 28 years worth of parties dragging

this country to where we are at now. I do not envy his position, but I admire him giving his best effort to try and alter our course.

He must be very wary of everyone surrounding him...therein lies his battle in these early days and months. We cannot afford another sell out

which happens often in that rats nest. No wonder some give up when faced with all that is DC. It needs cleaned out, but that is an understatement.

I think he knows who rigged it!  :cigar:

Thank you dear. I hope he is able to get it done, step by step but it will be met with much resistance

from many inside who do see him as a threat to their careers. I think he is capable if he can hold his focus

without his own crew distracting him. He has a huge mountain to climb.

Thanks, WHN !  We feel better already !  Seeing your post here renews our own resolve and Spirit of '76....! :eagle::twothumbs:

And you're right... he knows.... but how to go about the eradication is going to be the thing....

We are trusting the team he has assembled around him... he chose well in our opinion... and THEY MUST BE GOOD because

the msm is going after them so hard ! They're afraid of The Team Trump Troops !

The things we hear coming out of the lefty msm's mouths are SO PATHETIC  and caustic !  BAD FORM, msm, bad form.... <_<

They're terrified, so they're trying to tear them all down with the most vile, hateful, base-less attacks we've ever seen.

Why, the attacks on Kelly Ann Conway & Steve Bannon alone are enough to make a ho' blush !

And on a side note -- those KILLary-lovers and ho'bummer-worshippers still entrenched in the State Department,

skirted the Oval Office and brought in over 100 Syrians, claiming they're okay because they were vetted by the U.N.

The U.N. --?!

Since when do THEY have the last say on our Law...? Oh, yuh. since ho'bummer handed US over to them....<_<

The U.N. is the H.Q. of the globalist cabal for pete's sake !

THEY'RE THE ONES WHO ARE INTENTIONALLY ALLOWING THE SPREAD OF THE THEIR TERROR ARMIES !

We need to start a petition on The White House site to eradicate the U.N. as well as gorged soros...

"Old Guard" is relative.

If you speak in relation to the current "mainstream", then ok, those RINO's are possibly the "old guard".

However, if you speak in relation to the core foundational tenets of the republican party, then those RINO's  suddenly are exposed for the usurpers they are.

The original "republicans", (aside from those humans that resided in each sovereign State Republic), were nothing more than libertarians who understood the constitution, and more importantly, amendments to the constitution, along with the Declaration, were to be interpreted literally, for each words intended meaning on the day they were written.

That, and "the guide book" used, The Bible, declares each human a divine creation of Providence.

I realize this may be viewed as a "minor" point, but then I would respond, perception is everything.

If we understand the vile pretenders like McCain, Grahm, etc, are actually the corrupted traitors to the Republic, and they should be stripped of the title "Old Guard", as that carries the implication of something honorable, and as we all know, there is nothing honorable in what they represent.... just sayin...
