They are protesting against the attack by ISIL that killed 32 people in the mainly Kurdish town of Suruc, but also against the government’s bombing of Kurdish militant positions.

French Kurd Saleh Mustapha said: “Turkey is double-dealing. It’s trying to convince the international community that it’s fighting ISIS but in reality it’s targeting the Kurds.”

Another French Kurd, Leon Edart, said: “We have seen people arrested but among the 600 people arrested, there were probably a hundred from ISIS and the rest were Kurds. In fact, we want the world to witness that.”

Ankara denies claims by some Kurdish militants in Turkey that it has been covertly supporting ISIL against Syrian Kurds.

First of two things here:

1) Bagdad and Erbil are not following through on the HCA. This is causing an irreparable rift that may (hate to use the word) *soon* neither one can come back from, if that hasn't happened already. With this rift growing, the Kurds are seeking support from outside of Baghdad in the international community to garner support, dot their i's and cross their t's so that when they do break away from Iraq, they will have back room deals already in place and the transition will be a much smoother one than what has transpired with Iraq.

2) Erbil wants to break away but Iraq has her claws firmly entrenched into Erbil because while there are other oil-generating provinces in Iraq, the Kurdish region is by far the main producer of Oil for Iraq. Take Erbil out of Iraq's picture and Iraq won't be one-tenth of what it is worth now.

The world is a stage, very rarely does something that draws the attention of the world remain confined to just that country anymore. What happens outside effects the course of events inside a country. These protests could be just whining or they could be the start to something more. A pebble is all it takes to bring down the side of a mountain.
