pattyangel
A Memorial Day Poem by C W Johnson We walked among the crossesWhere our fallen soldiers lay.And listened to the bugleAs TAPS began to play. The Chaplin led a prayerWe stood with heads bowed low.And I thought of fallen comradesI had known so long ago. They came from every cityAcross this fertile land. That we might live in freedom. They lie here 'neath the sand.I felt a little guiltyMy sacrifice was small.I only lost a little timeBut these men lost their all.Now the services are overFor this Memorial Day.To the names upon these crossesI just want to say,Thanks for what you've givenNo one could ask for more.May you rest with God in heavenFrom now through evermore Edited May 24, 2013 by pattyangel

dog53
Great poem patty. My Father served in WW2 He just didnt serve he was a actual war hero. A great warrior . He was the gentlest man I ever knew. I always thought how strange it was that he could be both. But I somehow managed by the grace of god to finally understand it. and it changed my life forever
pattyangel
Great poem patty. My Father served in WW2 He just didnt serve he was a actual war hero. A great warrior . He was the gentlest man I ever knew. I always thought how strange it was that he could be both. But I somehow managed by the grace of god to finally understand it. and it changed my life forever My Father as well is a WWll hero. I tend to his health and to sit with him, listening and watching him light up to the memories of back in the time, is really amazing. I'm at the stage with him that he'll tell me the same story over and over. You know what Dog53 I never grow tired of them. I've recorded some of them so I can pass it on to the great-grandchildren. His years are creeping up and one day his chair will be empty, but he is my strong, courage's and with a big heart, he is my father, my hero. Thanks for sharing Dog53, it touched me bitter-sweetly.

Forgive my mistakes and lately they have been many. I meant to say "courageous" hero. My mine is thinking faster than I type. Or at least I want to think that. LOL!!!
