  1. I'm not certain that the UN will get involved, but I agree that Iraq will not be able to continue its delay with implementing an RV. At some point, the demonstrations will become revolution, or a takeover by other ME countries in order to keep the region stable. Overthrow or takeover may have an adverse effect on Iraq's potential for investment after that. The example is Iran. Look what happened to their worth/wealth after the Shah was overthrown. Their currency is worth a fraction of the Dinar at this point. Hopefully the GOI won't wait until its too late. Last January's and ongoing demonstrations, in the light of what is happening in other ME countries, should be a clear warning to them. I'll give you a +1 to get you back to neutral.
  2. Agreed. K98 has done an awful lot of really good research. I used to look through all of the news outlets I could find, but didn't have the time or resources Woody has, so through him I stay current. Thanks for the thread and thanks K98nights!
  3. I purchased most of my Dinar through Silvergreetings and their e-Bay company, Giftdotnet with great results.
  4. Thanks, Woody. Here is another link about something similar in Mosul. Security forces fired at the protesters. http://aknews.com/en/aknews/4/220935/
  5. And he is trying to oust some ministers in the government: http://aknews.com/en/aknews/4/220393/ I wonder how he will fit into Friday's protests (other than make them more intense)?!?
  6. Here is another link to the same issue: http://aknews.com/en/aknews/4/218177/ I'm beginning to wonder if those in power over there even have a clue that their window of opportunity is rapidly closing. The people of Iraq are no longer looking to the GOI to assist them in their plight and provide answers to the problems. One easy way would be an RV (he hinted).
  7. Ministerial gaps to be resolved in next ten days: Iraqiya Thursday, January 27th 2011 5:13 PM Baghdad, Jan. 27 (AKnews) - The MP for Al- Iraqiya bloc led by ,Ayad Allawi confirmed on Thursday, that the remaining ministries will be filled in the next ten days which were unresolved, including three security ministries. Nahida al- Daini, told AKnews that next week will witness the anticipated meeting between Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki and AL-Iraqiya List leader, Ayad Allawi, in order to resolve naming remaining ministries, including the security. "According to the available information, al-Maliki will not provide the remaining formation of the ministries if the security ministries were not resolve to be within the security ministries to be a part of the cabinet reshuffle," noting that "AL- Iraqiya List supports this step." "Naming the security ministries comes in the forefront of ministries that have not been resolved, including those managed by acting", pointing out that "previous names that where proposed to fill the security ministries were non-professional." "The agreement among the political blocs is by calculating these ministries outside the points system, and that its ministers must be independent, on this basis the previous names were rejected and new names were proposed". Al- Iraqiya List announced on Tuesday that the Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, did not inform them about any objection to their candidate, Falah al-Naqib for the post of defense minister. It was agreed to share the defense and interior ministries between Al-Iraqiya coalition and the National coalition, while Kurds are demanding to grant them a security position in accordance with their electoral and national right. 8. I saw a report on this issue in AK news as well: http://aknews.com/en/aknews/4/211228/ You have to wonder how long the "powers that be" in Iraq can stall this whole thing, before the country is in all-out civil war? (that would be bad)
  9. dre396 - I purchased most of my Dinar from giftdotnet and received no Certificates of Authenticity. I kept the e-bay receipts as proof of purchase for tax and (possibly) cash-in purposes. I checked on the Dinar Trade website for the telltale print security methods used in these notes, and checked those characteristics against my notes. They all passed my inspection. Being in the printing industry, I know how difficult it would be to duplicate these notes without extreme expense. I trust the notes I received from Mr. Noorsultan are authentic, but I guess I'll find out for certain when they run through a d' Larue machine at cash-in.
  10. http://aknews.com/en/aknews/4/204252/ Hope this isn't a re-post - I didn't see it anywhere... Urgent - Iraq's new government approved by parliament Tuesday, December 21st 2010 1:51 PM Erbil, Dec. 21 (AKnews) – The Iraqi parliament has approved the long-awaited government ending months of disputes days before a constitutional deadline for Maliki to form the government expire. However, the new cabinet set off outrage among the women lawmakers for not including any women. Iraq had been awaiting the new government for eight months after the March 7 parliamentary elections failed to determine the winner to form a majority government. Maliki had a constitutional deadline until Sunday to form the new cabinet before President Jalal Talabani charge another lawmaker to do so. The majority of the MPs voted in favor of the new cabinet ministers when put to vote. The new government does not include any women which was strongly protested by the women bloc prompting Maliki to postpone the announcement of some of the ministries until women candidates are put forward by the blocs relevant to the remaining ministries. Though the women were not happy about the new cabinet they voted for the it to "not prolong Iraqi people's suffering who have been waiting for a new government for so long." as the Kurdish woman MP Ala Talabani put it. Talabani said, in a speech she delivered during the opening of the session, that the new government had violated the Iraqi constitution for not allocating 25% of the posts to women. "The absence of women (in the new cabinet) is to marginalize the role of women in the reconstruction of this country" Talabani told the session, urging the Iraqi president Jalal Talabani to call an urgent meeting to follow up the issue. Prime MInister Nuri al-Maliki said he would not enter the parliament next time if there were no women candidates for the remaining ministerial portfolios. "I wanted this government to be different from the previous one. If there were four women ministers in the previous government I wanted and wished to have more women in this government" The ministries of the interior and the defense - two key positions - are among the ministries Maliki did postponed to better judge the candidates for the posts. The two ministries were put under Maliki's supervision until the candidates are announced in the coming days. Other key positions in the government include the foreign affairs ministry is again held by the Kurds. The former minister of the foreign affairs Hoshyar Zebari will remain in his post for another four years, while the ministries of finance and oil went to former Vice-President Rafie al-Eissawi - a member of the al-Iraqiya list, and former deputy oil minister Abdulkarim Luebi of Primer Minister's National Coalition bloc (NC) respectively. Former Oil Minister Hussein al-Shahristani was appointed deputy Primer Minister for energy affairs. Ry/AKnews
  11. From what is out there in the news and in the chats, Maliki has to present his appointments to Parliament for approval (by Dec. 25th). Since the positions seemed to have been pretty much worked out before hand, I have been assuming they will be approved as submitted by Maliki. Does anyone have a feeling as to whether the Kurds or Iraqiya List might vote against Maliki's proposals? If so, what is the next step? Does Allawi get to form? These questions are not intended to discourage anyone - all of the information seems to lead to an automatic approval once Maliki presents - but this is Iraq... THANKS for any insight.
  12. NC lawmaker: Cabinet of ministers to be named mid-December Wednesday, December 8th 2010 9:31 AM Baghdad, Dec. 8 (AKnews) - A member of the National Coalition (NC) said on Wednesday that the new cabinet of ministers will be named at the middle of this month. Khaled al-Asadi told AKnews that the majority of political blocs have almost finished nominating their candidates for the governmental ministries, according to their electoral rights and public interests. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced at a press conference in Baghdad that the cabinet formation will soon be formalized in spite of ongoing frictions over certain key posts. “All political blocs agree on the basic map for the next government despite differences of view that may turn into disputes in some cases, but these differences will be resolved over the next two days,” he said. Concerning the stance of al-Iraqiya in the negotiations for the different ministerial posts, Asadi described the list as “positive” about its participation in the next government. The NC lawmaker said that a meeting between the State of Law Coalition led by PM Maliki and al-Iraqiya led by the former PM, Ayad Allawi, was held to resolve outstanding issues between them. Allawi’s al-Iraqiya came a narrow first in the March general elections but was prevented from forming the new government by a federal court ruling that insisted on the attainment of a parliamentary majority. Insisting on the right to lead the new government and after several threats to boycott the political process, al-Iraqiya finally agreed to step down in return for key sovereign responsibilities in the new administration. An MP from the al-Iraqiya list, Nahida al-Daini, told AKnews earlier that the List has selected the health, agriculture and municipalities ministries, in addition to the sovereign finance ministry as their first choice. 13. Mariejose - I have no link or thread, but from what I recall reading, that is correct. If so, that would probably mean the CBI is keeping close tabs on those dealers, how much they received and how much they have sold...
  14. I believe you are right. As I understand it, they need to get a vote of confidence done on Maliki's appointments to the positions within the GOI prior to the RV. Hopefully the confidence vote comes on Saturday, as you suggest, it turns out positive, then the RV gets announced!

  16. Thanks Phoenix for everything you have done - and for my favorite Neil Young song put to images, too...
  17. Sonny1 came on chat afterward and confirmed it was Med (from the other site). Doesn't really sound like him, but it apparently was...
  18. Ebrahim Noorsultan (silver greetings and giftdotnet) throws in a freebie for every return customer - each time they re-order
  19. seems kind of odd how it ends: "For more humanitarian news and analysis..." I always thought humanitarianism was for the good of people.
  20. Maybe they should list the days they come in to work, instead... Thanks for the post Sunshine!
  21. The section that is being referenced here is in DD (another site) and is not specific to a person, but rather the fact that other site feels that the post is an unsubstantiated rumor. Hope that helps clarify the comment... SteveI and Viper51 are a couple of favorites that are really pretty accurate.
  22. I have to agree with Rick - and thanks again, Woody (now masquerading as the Skipper)
  23. I think Viper51 stated something like that - except he didn't necessarily mean an announcement about the RV. He may have been talking about the election results of the 3 major posts. Still, its a step toward RV - yeah, baby GO RV!
  24. Good news for forming the government, but where did Allawi go?
